Thanks for the kind words and glad you're liking the tent. I'm not sure what happened with that strut poking through, but we are happy to fix that up if you'd like, although our DCF patches could probably provide an easy DIY repair too. - Dan
@@dakotacoburn I used seam sealer to repair my vent strut that had the same issue. I was provided a repair kit on my next purchase (kakwa 55) free of charge. Great customer service. I echo all your comments about this tent. It's a great tent for its weight.
Just bought the 2+ for my solo backpacking trips. Will have lots of space for me and my dog and room to put gear in and keep it dry. Can’t wait to try it out!
I may solo hiker with an 85 pound Akita shepherd cross dog ( and a Pomeranian lol but he can fit anywhere! ) I’ve been looking for an ultralight tent that can fit me and my big dog
@@noelletufts1550 My Lab is 60lbs and fits in the vestibule space perfectly, I just put down a warm mat for her. Your dog might be pushing it but you may be able to make that vestibule a little wider. Went for 1 night hike/camp a few weeks ago and we were in a hard rainstorm at night and the tent held up really well. Love it.
@ Thank you so much for the input! I’ve been doing a lot of research looking for the right tent for me and my big dog ( as my little dog can fit anywhere lol )
Mine held up on my AT thru hike last year. Still going strong. I loved all the space, especially with all the rain last year. Gave me a place to get out of my wet clothes without getting my sleeping bag wet. Handled bad weather really well.
You make a great point, having a little extra living space is really underrated. Sometimes it just isn’t worth it being out there in the rain or dealing with the swarms of mosquitoes lol
I have their Kakwa 55 pack and I love it, Dan makes some sweet gear. I've been thinking about getting one of the xmid variations, thanks for putting together a good review of this one.
Thanks I appreciate it! I’ve been to get the Kakwa 55! Dan’s attention to detail really shows in the xmid. I imagine it’s the same with the kakwa. Which version do you have?
@@dakotacoburn I got the 2024 UltraGrid version. I really like that I can reach the water bottle on one side without taking the pack off and the side zipper pocket is nice. I also like this version's stretchy back panel. The U shaped structure for the back is also nice on a 2lbs pack and a major reason that I chose this one over some other UL packs, and I also liked that it had load lifters which a lot of other UL packs don't include.
@@Cavely I’m thinking of getting the ultra grid too, it really is such a great deal. It’s 85 (cad) more for the ultrax, so it’s hard justify that for only saving an ounce. I keep hearing that about the frame, I usually bring a lot of camera gear plus I’m wanting to do some pack rafting in the future so load capacity is important.
I'm curious how well something like this sets up on a tent platform like the kind you find in Strathcona Park or on the Juan de Fuca Trail? I've struggled in the past.
It can be a pain. I use my tent stakes as an anchor in between the slats and the pulling the guy lines tight for the main 4 points on the xmid. From there I’ll slide them around to adjust the tension. You have to reach underneath the platform and hope you don’t drop a stake lol
@@dakotacoburn Thanks for the info. I once brought nails and hammered them in to the sides with a beach rock to use as anchor points. That was when I was younger and I got a stern lecutre from Parks Canada when they caught me.
Thanks for the review from a fellow 6’5” guy. Strongly considering upgrading to this tent from a copper spur ul3. My wife is 6’, so I’m a little concerned about both of us having enough room. Thoughts?
Yeah it should be work for you guys. As long as one of you is okay with the fabric be close your face on the short end. I recently send up the tent on very bumpy ground and slept on the short end. The fabric would lightly tap my head when there was a breeze. That being said, that’s worst case scenario
Great video.! I just ordered it but now I'm kind of scared about the durability since I definitely did expect it to last 5-10 years for the insane price. Your drain net rip looks pretty bad, any idea on a fix?
I was thinking about it since I posted the video, just be mindful during set up and tear down and it should last. I’m usually in a hurry and rushing around. My friends a seamstress and also a backpacker, she recommended sewing in a mesh patch using a machine that can do a tight stitch.
I wouldn’t be too concerned about that, Durston gear will go above and beyond to help out with repairs. He literally sent me a repair kit for the issues I mentioned in the video from the comments on another one of my videos.
@@dakotacoburnthank you I am just struggling to choose between this and the hilleberg anaris to be honest. I got the x-done so excited about that but just interested in a freckling pole tent 😂

Thanks for making a great tent! I think a dcf patch should work well, just need something hold the strut in place
