ESSEX PUB WALK | PLESHEY

This was a 5.5 mile pub based walk in the picturesque village of Pleshey, near Chelmsford in Essex.
The route was meant to start and finish at The White Horse pub, but it has now been turned into a house, so instead I went from the villages remaining pub The Leather Bottle.
The route features a trip to Great Waltham, a village with just as many historic buildings including a splendid church, where I was given an impromptu tour by the local historian and church warden!
Pleshey also features the remains of an impressive Norman motte and Bailey castle, however it is privately owned, so we only get brief glimpses of it (I've tried contacting to different numbers with no success).
Apologies for the wind noises on this one, the weather was quite savage that day and not even the micro muff could withstand it!

Enjoyable video, lots of interesting information, I came to it, because today, I was looking into a line of my ancestors, who I knew had farmed the area, but found out actually had, owned a lot of land, the exact area you must have walked...but this is 17th - mid 19thc. They have a line of gravestones, in that churchyard.I was looking up the field names they owned, today which included Pighylte (sounds ancient) and Buttons and one called 'Girls' ! there are records they are mentioned in - I need to see, and I want walk, or cycle the area now..

cheers, i'll definitely keep in contact with him, in fact he has emailed me about the castle, but he's given me a number that i've already rung several times with no reply! i'll try again soon and drive back up there one day to film.

No I didn't I've tried contacting the owners to arrange a visit but never got any response or answer from them.
