I was one day old! Literally last night I played a commander game where my opponent evoked his cloudthresher to hit my army of angels for two, cloudshifted it, killed all my angels, then smashed me in the face for 7 repeatedly. I didn't last too much longer.
I can't believe it but this is my EXACT pauper Tron list. This is amazing. It took me so long to figure out all the combos but they're all listed in this video and I'm gonna use this as a reference forever. Thank you so much for this video honestly 😊

I've already built a Pauper deck that is similar to modern reanimate but I still enjoyed watching and seeing what other builds are available as Pauper has never caught traction at my LGS. Seems interesting. Keep up the good work Professor.
This deck looks so fun! I remember getting blown out by a similar build at the LA pauper MCQ. It didn't have that red removal though. I definitely want to build this. Thanks!
Awesome new video prof! Thinking back to some of your first couple of deck techs it makes me happy to see you continue to push the limits of high quality mtg content. You've really help make the mtg community overall grow and refine so much, thank you for your hard work.
Looking for a ban at Arcum's Astrolabe is turning a blind eye to the elephant in the room, Ephemerate. This is the card that has not only been powering up tron, as you mentioned, but also leads to absurd card draw with evoked mulldrifters (potentially drawing 6 for 4 mana), as well as perpetual removal/counterspell when paired with Archaeomancer to fish a Skred or Counterspell from your graveyard. Ephemerate also reduces tremendously the effect of possible graveyard hate to stop it's loops, being always a net positive effect due to Rebound's nature. Example: You have a Relic of Progenitus on board, and at the end of your endstep, the opponent ephemerates his Archaeomancer to bring back a Counterspell. Do you crack the relic when the Archaeomancer targets the counterspell, or do you wait for the rebound cast during your opponent's upkeep to try to take away his Ephemerate? Both options are very risky, because not only the opponent already got value from the ephemerate, but if he has another one in hand (remember that he just untapped his lands), he can even save the one you tried to exile while keeping both.
A spell cast that has rebound does go to exile, but a rebound-cast spell is not exiled after it resolves, it goes straight to the graveyard. If you crack the relic when he tries to recover the counterspell, the opponent will lose that card, but will still have the engine going full steam, specially if there are mulldrifters on board or in hand. Cracking the relic when they go for the CS is a minor inconvenience. Cracking when they go for the ephemerate impacts more, but an extra copy is enough to absolutely negate that.
@@leocolossi i mean yes, they get an archaeomamcer and the ephemerate back into the hand, but how does that kill me? They can draw cards with mulldrifter, but flicker decks were already using ghostly flicker for mulldrifter and archaeomancer. That alone does not win you games, and i dont think it really warrants a ban, especially with the amount of disruption in the format.
I don't know if you looked at the Jeskai lists, but there's a point where you can't sustain any decent number of blockers against the sheer amount of card avantage, counterspells, removals and fliers that Jeskai has. Being able to infinetely kill/counter enemy threats as long as they resolve Archaeomancer and have Ephemerate, while also leaving no counterplay to the mechanic, is the main problem here.
Astrolabe should be banned because now it's to easy build 4-5 color good stuff decks, that is what jeskai snow is since most of them use Weather the Storm and some black graveyard recursion, it made pauper mana base too good, stinking to a 2 color deck makes no sense anymore, just put astrolabe in any deck, except super fast aggros like RDW and stompy. And the interaction with kor skyfisher and glint hawk it's too good to be ignored, so if you don't whant to play whith agro 1/4 of your deck is alredy decided 4 astrolabe, 2-4 prisms, 4 kors, 4 glint hawk. Btw ephemerate should also be banned
I have been tweaking my deck for months to prepare for this 1k and the fact that i might be able to challenge you to a game or to to test my wits is exhilerating
I didn't even realise I had the skeletal pieces of a dinrova tron deck for pauper. I dont have the urza lands but I saw in my collection dinrova and ghostly flicker and thought it was a hilariously evil combo. Although I don't have the wall I was using archemancer to get my flickers back as well as messing with a deadeye navigator but he wouldn't be used in pauper. Thank you for this video! :)
My Tron Decklist is my Modern Mono White Tron Tokens. Aside from some Lingering Souls and Raise the Alarms to generate a buffer force, I focus on bombs like Finale of Glory, Entreat the Angels, White Sun's Zenith, and Secure the Wastes. Obviously I run Intangible Virtues and then I have a number of removal spells and control spells. Oblivion Rings, Mana Tithe (that can stiffel early ramp or burn), etc. It did surprisingly well the first time I made an iteration of it (less control) and I feel like my current list of it might do better. I just have to balance lands and control but I don't think I have that worked out well enough yet. I got my tron land numbers and expedition maps but card draw is also obviously lacking. I wonder if something like Astrolabe or Prism would be a good choice because of the card draw.
protip if you want to pick up a set of Tron lands and just want the cheapest option: go to TCGPlayer and search for the specific alternate art versions. An Urza's Tower for example is about $3.10-$4.60 from 5th, 8th, or 9th edition, but $1.27-$1.48 from Chronicles. Just select "Urza's Tower (Plains)" in the search dropdown instead of "Urza's Tower" and scroll past the $18 Antiquities version to get to Chronicles :P I honestly think these are so cheap because people just don't know how to search for them on the site, since they show up separately from the non-art-specific search results. Same goes for a lot of other cards that had alternate art, like Hymn to Tourach (where the OG, black border version from Fallen Empires is like, $0.10 but the Anthologies reprint is a whopping $2.20).
This deck looks super fun! I’m really enjoying all of these pauper deck techs, although I really miss the Advanced Modern Studies and I would love to see them return. Maybe an episode on 5 color Niv or bant Soulherder?
I have a similar list but without the update from Modern Horizons. I don't tlike the idea of throwing Astrolabe into every deck and thus, snow lands, but I understand it's power level. This hasn't been my style of deck at all, but the few times that I've played it have been incredibly fun, finding ways to fend off opponents to the point where you can come back. I actually ended up adding 2 Rolling Thunder to have a way to clear out the board, or just go straight for their face.
Hello, professor, I’m CKG and I’m your fan of review of card sleeves playmats and deck boxes, when I get a notification I watched your review and it very interesting plus last year I bought quiver deck case because I was having a hard time of stored my deck boxes in my bag and searched my deck in my bag but thanks to you I have no problem at all. I have a request for you what is best playmat tubes in 2019 because I heard that there’s monster dual playmat tubes that you can store two playmats and Matpod from ultimate guard so please make a video of playmat tubes review
I really think you should also play a Rolling Thunder as a way to finish games. I once played in a nearby tournament with a similar list without anything to finish off my opponent and timed out my matches and lost.
A question for you to test Professor. Would a plumbing pipe, and two plumbing end caps work well for a playmat case? It's strong, water resistant, cheap, and available at most hardware stores. It would be like the Stanley case you should a few years ago
I personally have loved using the protection enchantments I have a 2 copys of pro red and 1 copy of pro black though delver grimag has fallen out so may go to remove the pro black for something else.
I'd love to see a deck tech on Twiddle Field, that new Modern deck that runs off of Twiddle and Lotus Field. I play the deck, but I'm always looking for ways to improve it!
4:45 On that note, I'd argue against a ban. It is not so powerful that it breaks the gameplay experience and Prophetic Prism has been everywhere as well and that card isn't being considered a problem either. There have to be more criteria for banning a card than just the card's popularity among deckbuilders.
You know, I'm somewhat surprised The Instructor didn't make an appearance in this decktech. He's definitely the sort that would enjoy making obscene amounts of mana and repeatedly fogging and removing combat steps while their opponents decide whether or not to concede out of shear misery.
OK, I have a question...since you are supposed to actually exile Ephemerate until your next turn, can you really do the loop with the mnemonic wall, as I don't think it would be able to target the ephemerate that should be in exile?
same question from me.... doesn't look like this would work as the prof explained it. when you cast ephemerate from your hand, it is exiled, does not ever hit the graveyard...

It reads $33.4 instead of $3.34. PLEASE don't get upset with yourself for something so small, as it's just something we all have done before. Anyway the video was very fun and informative like always. Do keep up all the good work.
People still play Fog Tron without snow lands, and are still 5-0ing with it that way on MTGO Leagues.
