For me..... If I get to this level, its gonna be a ground up custom build for me. Hi-end DIY TT all the way for me, thats ultimate in my eyes.

Great video! Love the rundown of your analog setup complete with the history of your choices. It definitely takes a lot to do it properly! Once you've made sure that your cartridge choice is electrically matched by your phono stage and mechanically matched to your tonearm, then comes the question "how does it sound?" As you mention, it takes some experimenting as one man's trash is another man's treasure.
For me, the one cartridge company I never liked is Denon. I have friends that love them, but I've had 4 on various types of tonearms and that characteristic Denon zippy sound almost made me give up on vinyl.
Ortofon, Goldring, and AT all make splendid cartridges. I'm running a low output Goldring Eroica LX right now. Not in the category of the A90, but a great cartridge none-the-less!!

Just a couple of comments on some of the tings you said. This is the first video I've seen from you, so I have no idea if you know this, or not. The one major thing I noticed is when you mentioned that you got rid of a cart because the sound was too analytical, and it just wasn't for you. I fully understand. However, I'm not sure if you know how much a phono cart breaks in. Its not like any other component. Most people think speakers break in the most, but nothing comes close to a new phono cart. If I has to guess, the effect is at least 10x the break in compared to speakers. I've had new phono carts that I was ready to send back because they literally sounded defective right out of the box. For the first 20-30 hours on a new cart, I can hear a change from record to record. But like I said, you may already know all of this.
I was also surprised when you said that you don't bother with SRA. I'm not going to tell you what to do. Its your time and money. How you spend it is no ones business but your own. But you did make the comment. I would recommend you look into adjusting it. Its not hard to do, and it makes a big difference.
If you're interested, here's a reference you may find useful. A few years back, someone in the audio industry started a new publication. No advertisements, and was subscription only. He also brought in one of the reviewers from Absolute Sound. To make a long story short, the guy passed away after about 15 journals. Richard Vandersteen got permission from the guys family to put the 15 journals on his web site as a tribute. The reason I'm going on about this, is I don't want you to think you're stealing something you should be paying for. You can download all 15 for free. On Vandersteen's site, you'll see a tribute page for the Audio Perfectionist Journal. In one of them is an interview with Brooks Berdan. Like Fremer, he's a high level TT setup guy, but he's much more approachable than Fremer. Fremer knows what he's doing, but he's a weird guy. In Brooks's interview, he goes over the process of setting up a TT, and explains all the steps. Its just a great reference, and I think you'll like his style much more than Fremer. Its all free, so you really have nothing to loose. And the rest of the journals are great, as well. In a different one, he show you how to make your own room treatments with materials you can buy in a place like Home Depot. They work really well and can save you a fortune.

Thanks for you info and really appreciate it.I am very well aware of all your points inc cart break in.As for my system I am very content here as is.One can take things as far as they want to the brink of insanity.I prefer to stay somewhat free of the” it needs to be better syndrome” been there done that and its not healthy. So I just listen a share. My videos are just my experience. This video more about the demands of building an analog system. But set up is very important.I go by ear and really engage with it at present for 7 straight years without even the tiniest incident. Its awesome.Happy New Year

Good one! I recently had an epiphany. I was using a Hana ML…It was great. On a suggestion from a friend I should try the Zu Audio modified DL103. Man alive. Night and day different and it is almost about half the cost of the Hana. This DL103 is pretty amazing. Highly suggest the Zu. It’s a heavy sucker at 14g but it really damps the unwanted resonances. Cool stuff. Yes, it has taken me about 15 years to get a great vinyl setup. Still tweaking but it’s always a ride.

@revelry1969 Hey man 👋 I’ve also had and still do own a Hana ML, Goldring Eroica, AT, Grado, etc., etc., and many other nice MC, MM, and MI carts, and I still have a collection of aprox 25 or so types of different carts mounted to headshells, but the DL103r really surprised me as well. Mine is just the stock version mounted to a Jelco headshell. It’s been my main cart for almost 2 years now. I hear detail and dynamics I haven’t necessarily heard from other carts costing a lot more, and it’s got a spherical stylus profile too.

no I would say definitely not.The lighting sucks but you can always checkout how beautiful the horizon is on the Pure fidelity site.Mine is rosewood yes.The video is more a warning of what on can expect building a high end analog front end

I will never afford that beautiful piece of art and audio excellence. I just gotta settle for my RP6 with Dynavector 20x2. You probably have a lot more LPs than me to enjoy it more too . Sure is nice too dream though.😊

well to me I have a quality rather than quantity collection consisting of around 500 I even have the beatles mono lps I got them all at basically return on investment prices from estate sales. Its a valuable collection but not in a way that I am afraid to play them like getting a door ding on a Porsche analogy..Whats the use owning them if you cant use it .Rega I have owned many and love them this is the same design just much higher level build. For instance open the psu of the rp6 theres nothing there other than a small circuit board for speed change? no true LPS with torroid etc.Mine is a real heavy duty one with torroid extensive filtering even a furutec iec .But I do love rega on how they proved a turntable does not need to be heavy with there proprietary plinth materials.A killer company.I do not buy records anymore I have enough I like less bulk in all things audio because at some point they will all have to go to cash out

@@DragnetSoundHey Dragnet 👋 Anyone with an RP6 and Dynavector 20x2 cart is not settling at all. That’s a great set up, man, especially with the additional REGA speedbox. Its only job is to make sure your platter is spinning at the correct speed and it is not in the signal path.
Where are you located, and are their records you’re looking for? I’ve got multiple thousands of them from being a collector for over 30 years. I’d gladly send any doubles or ones I just don’t listen to anymore, if I’ve got any titles you’re looking for.

What I love about your player is that it has an art-deco look from the 20s/30s. So beautiful. On the 45s I have a few as they were singles I could not find easily otherwise. The sound is tinnie to me. It’s probably the pressing? No idea. I’m no phile so forgive my nomenclature 😂

Good Boxing Day to you 🥊
I’m going through my vinyl collection..getting rid of duplicates and shit pressings.
So going down from 700 to 600 of better pressings and building from there because as you’ve said ,good vinyl is expensive…and getting the best from your vinyl isn’t necessarily expensive..but you really need to keep you’re ears and mind open.
