That is called the smoking extractor it takes the smoke from the diesel motors outside of the building all classes of smoker's have to use the fume extractor unless it is alcohol
@@jasonprice9341 I know what it is but I've seen it at a couple venues where at the start of a pull someone will tug it back, and I've never quite understood why because that smoke tube is pretty heavy and the sled moving forward should just pull that swivel point in the right position, but I guess I should ask a sled operator for the real answer.
In regards to that tractor that blew up did you hurt the block or was it just the turbo that kicked back?
looked like the block split. you can see the top half of it laying forward when they pull it back..

Why do they always tug on the smoke tube? wouldnt the sled eventually pull it in the right position anyway?
It could, but there is a possibility that it could break doing that and then so it would get totally off the track
Not necessarily, if the swivel doesn't turn back like it should, the tube will kink.
