    I like the thourough demo of the outfit. Most videos are like 10 seconds at the end "here it is goodbye!"

    Beautiful outfit!
    We had record-breaking cold this winter (I think I live in the only Canadian city that regularly sells all their snow ploughs just before a wicked winter snow) and doing all the chores on the farm in a skirt and several feet of snow, I was getting frostbite on my knees! So I made a quick petty coat (nothing as lovely as yours) out of some cotton flannel that was too ugly to become a nightshirt and WOW. It is a life-changer. I had no idea such a simple thing could add so much comfort and warmth.
    Thanks for another great video!

    I'd be tempted to make one out of that red & white plaid that identifies us to outsiders as Canadians. Just so I could be a Proper Hoser Lady striding about in the walking skirt I've yet to make (yes, the Doug & Bob album came out when I was in high school, so, like, beauty, take off to the great white north, eh).
    Your petticoat came out so lovely. This is on my growing 'surviving winter' to-make list. So far I've got the American Duchess gloves (that will be turned into mitts) and a Cossack Bashlik (a shawl-like hood). Need to get back to sewing... great video.

      Those sound like some very cozy sewing plans! I do like the idea of a hood, since my head is the one part of me that ended up really chilly. I'm definitely going to do one out of red and white plaid flannel down the road - hosers represent, eh?!

      @stevezytveld6585 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HalflingSeamstress Totally, eh.
      I got the hood idea from V. Birchwood (sp?). She just put up a video about making her own this past week. Everybody technologies winter slightly differently and I do not love being cold. "Come to Canada, the farming is great (uuuh, for 4 months... good luck!)".

    This looks great! Instead of doubling the height of the waistband, making a short yoke of thinner material would be a good option. The extra width of straight waistband will extend up towards the rib cage whereas a yoke would be cut to sit smoothly from the waist towards the hips.

    • @HalflingSeamstress
      @HalflingSeamstress  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I debated about doing that with this one, but didn’t feel like doing math lol! But I will definitely be doing that for any future ones down the road.

    A two-layered knitted headband in wool keeps your forehead nice and warm. Never leave home without it in winter (keeps my ears warm too). :)

    • @HalflingSeamstress
      @HalflingSeamstress  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ooh that’s very tempting! I’m not a big fan of wool directly on my skin, but I should pull out my crochet skeins and see what I can do!

    • @Worldbuilder
      @Worldbuilder 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HalflingSeamstress you could also sew in an inner layer of cotton or linnen. (Strictly speaking I bet you could sew it much like you did your petticoat; a little scrap-buster project? You’d need to account for a bit of stretch, but it should be doable). :)

    Hello fellow Lydia! I'm about to go back to school for term 2 and that means winter uniform. It is a roughly knee length skirt that does not keep one warm at all, even with woolen tights. (I live in Melbourne Australia where it doesn't get crazy cold with snow or anything, but maybe down to freezing on the very coldest winter mornings) I'm curious to see if a warm petticoat would help at all, considering it's so short. I only have flanellette so i might give it a go. New subscriber ❤❤

    You need a balaclava, Lady! I know it's not period, but "fascinators" were, and you gotta have head coverage!

    • @HalflingSeamstress
      @HalflingSeamstress  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a sort of balaclava for skiing, but it’s a bit of a pain to wear, and definitely not as aesthetic for filming lol! I’m definitely looking at some kind of medieval hood for down the road. Gotta keep the head toasty warm!

    Note to self: Don't complain when it is 7⁰C, in some parts of the world that's a warm winter.
    As for the sewing machines you are do right, my 2017 machine is giving me so much trouble that the day I need to take it to reppair I'll take the 1917 one instead.

    • @HalflingSeamstress
      @HalflingSeamstress  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Antique machines for the win! I do have some projects planned for my modern machine (mostly because I need an easy back stitch feature), but I am really preferring old school!

    I gotta ask, do you have any trouble with static electricity between skirt layers? I haven’t been sure what fabric to use for a petticoat so the outside skirt wouldn’t static stick to an under layer. Yours turned out great and looked super warm.

    • @HalflingSeamstress
      @HalflingSeamstress  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! So far I haven’t had any static issues, but I’ve only worn it outside once so far for filming, so I couldn’t say.

    • @HalflingSeamstress
      @HalflingSeamstress  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So after a full day of wearing, I can safely say there are no issues with static. I would guess it’s because the lining of the walking skirt is smooth cotton. If it were unlined the wool might cause some issues, but not sure.

      @@HalflingSeamstress It could be the resolution the video is playing at on the viewer's gadget. I've noticed this on a lot of youtube videos the last 3 months. If the resolution is below 720, the video part stutters. Especially on wi-fi. But easily fixed by upping the playback to 720 or 1080.
      your video played smoothly on both my computer and tablet at 720, but stutters if I play it any lower. But it's that way now for every youtube video for me. Some sort of youtube test to save bandwidth by reducing frame rate instead of buffering?
