I loved the video. I went to GIT in 1988, then went back in 2015 for the luthier program. I love the changes the school has gone through. I had such a great time there.

Very nice!! I’ve always thought about attending this school ten years ago when I watched the guitar program clips. It definitely has changed in the last ten years because of Covid

Compared to the place I studied in the UK (British Institute of Modern Music) MI is HUGE!! We had 4 campuses in the same town but still not as big as that!. Guthrie taught there for a few years before I attended but he'd come back every year for a few classes, and I'd always be sat front and center.
Other than size all the classes/facilities are the same, only we didn't have a guitar library... that's so cool!!.
I've always wondered what MI is like as I nearly went there myself. I'm looking at my Masters aswell so it's added some further curiosity. Awesome video 📹 👏 👌 👍

Jime, I enjoyed this. In 1980 I attended the inaugural G.I.T. Summer Session. It was to prepare aspiring students for the upcoming 1-years studio musician course. I was already studying engineering, so for me and my buddy, this was kind of a crazy thing to do over the summer. I only played in garage bands and cover bands ever since, plus went to DreamCatcher guitar camps where we met one another while you were still at MI.
Back when I attended, the "campus" consisted of a few dozen rooms in the second floor of an old brick building near Hollywood & Vine (I think). It was cramped and simple, it'd only been around 3 years. I actually got to take seminars with old timers like Howard Roberts, Tommy Tedesco, Joe Diorio, Don Mock etc. Classes were taught by GIT students/grads, some of whom are still around as staff I think. For housing four of us teamed up on a crappy apartment in Van Nuys, we slept on the floor for the summer because we were all so poor, lol! Even though I never went pro it was the best thing I did for myself as a musician, I learned modes and lots of things which I use to this day. I still have all my old class notes and handouts! This was pre-personal computer, pre-Internet, pre Compact Disc, pre cellphone. So your vlog was especially fun to watch for me. Thanks for sharing!

Wow! I knew you had studied in LA, but had no idea in my mind about how your school could have been. What an interesting place.
Hmm..., interesting? What a GREAT place!
I guess my Tocayito played it quite right by making it possible for you to attend such a great school and, yes, you made the most out of it. My deepest respect for you both. Congratulations!
    Play on!

Hello! All I can say is I graduated 2017 so of course some things must have changed especially after covid. I would say from my experience, I really liked it. All the staff and teachers there are immensely talented and you’ll get to learn and have different points of view. You can try it out and if you don’t feel like a good vibe, then you’re h can find options. That’s the good thing! You never know who you can learn from or who you can meet

My experience with Musicians Institute was pretty much the exact opposite of most reviews from students/alumni. I struggled heavily when it came to my studies, and found that most teachers and students wanted nothing to do with you if you weren't already at a certain level on your instrument. The people there really know how to make someone feel stupid when someone is inexperienced or trying to learn something new. I felt very discouraged being there, and found it to be a very cliquish and cold environment. Impossible to make friends or any type of connections. I'm currently stuck in non-music related day job and have struggled to get gigs due to the lack of help and guidance I needed. It seems like administrators only want to hear positive stories about graduates who succeed after MI, and have no concern with those who are struggling. Forget about any type of career assistance or job placement; anyone who receives assistance is someone who can make the school look good and attract new students.

I can’t imagine what you felt after the shit they put you through….now I know why not to attend here. Everything looks great though, but you proved that looks can be deceiving
