i realize it's kinda off topic but does anyone know of a good site to watch newly released series online?
God, I remember watching a schoolyard acquaintance play through that INCREDIBLY long last level, and just as he reached the final boss I bumped the power cable and accidentally turned off his system.
In retrospect I'm lucky he didn't embed the Game Gear in my head.
lol, it would be the first embedded Game Gear.
What I like about this game is you can tell they legitimately tried. I can always respect effort and hard work being put into a game. The game runs smoothly, gameplay appears to be polished, and the shinobi sprite is large and detailed. Pretty good work on display here when you keep in mind the technical limitations of the game gear.

It's fucking unfair, if you lost a Life because you did try something different, you lose the magic ! and there's no fucking way to get it back, so it costs you 1 Continue. It's like a fucking Soft Lock.
Fucking Game, cost me 2 hours of my life and many tries to get there, and then i lose my last fucking continue because of that fucking room !
GG2 is million times better !
EDIT: Ok i did find out that you can kill those guys at 23:36 with the Green Ninja, if you do the double Jump (just vertical, not forward or backward) + Shuriken, you need to hit them just to the right spot, and this spot is realy small, but it works.....but the room after this is even worse ! 3 Perfect Grapples 24:12 (he use savestates, doing it 3 x perfect on a real game gear is near impossible)

The sequel (Shinobi 2: The Silent Fury) is even better. Top Game Gear games.
I remember it was 93 when my dad bought me a game gear and this is my favourite game... 👍👍🏽👍👍🏽👍
I fondly remember playing this little gem whilst in a trip to Europe back in '91 with my trusty GG. It sure was hard getting through this at 7/8 years old, the final levels were almost too much for me, but few gaming instances offered as much satisfaction for my young self as getting to the end of both GG Shinobis and their big brother, Revenge of Shinobi - my first Mega Drive (Genesis) game. A true test of perseverance.
You just made me relive an integral part of my childhood. Thank you!

The funny thing i found about this game is that this took place LONG before the whole Zeed thing. It was when Musashi was a teenager, and the WEAKEST ninja out of the five before mastering the Oboro Style of Ninjutsu in five years
Yep, and Naoko, the damsel in distress on The Revenge of Shinobi was the Pink Ninja.

This brings back so many memories of being on long car rides with a car charger to help with poor battery life. Thank you for this 😊 Your play through is excellent, as this game required a lot of careful timing. Seeing it like this shows that the Game Gear was using what looks like a simplified version of the Sega Genesis Revenge of Shinobi sprite, with some lower quality, yet still great, variations of the boss music as well. The graphics and music were some of the best on the Game Gear.
It also carries with it Revenge of Shinobi’s trait of having pop culture enemies. The hockey mask wearing bad guys in stage one look like Jason.
Another thing that’s great is how the Ninjutsu changes your players characteristics. It’s a clever way to give your player new abilities, and a great way to alternate them as you play. The way the pink Shinobi had Spider-Man like abilities and bombs, and the blue Shinobi had a long range swinging grappling hook, or the yellow one had a charging fireball was a very fun mechanic. Even though Shinobi 3 has more standard player moves, this has a lot more gameplay variety.
I had this game as a kid it has always been one of my favourites! Great work on the final boss btw.

Literally re bought a GG and the 2 games just because they are amazing.
Love that the 1.2 music is from the attract screen on the Revenge of Shinobi.
Little handy hint to the people who have this or want it on the nintendo 3DS shop, in Neo City, the colour of the background will give you a clue as to which ninja to use for what screen.
I never buy anything on virtual console but for some reason I bought the GG G-LOC air battle. I don't know what I was thinking.
I watch this vid mainly for the music on level 1 both parts, dock stage, outside of waterfall stage, and inside temple stage! yeah man

Best Game Gear game, no doubt! What a Ninja team effort! The superb music must have contributed at least 50% of the games excellence. Yuzo Koshiro never lets me down. This game is so creative & original, they need to make a new modern Shinobi game with Mr. Koshiro back as music composer. They could make an outstanding & highly impressive 3D version of this if they truly made an effort.
The favourite game of my youth, once I got the hang of it, I would beat this again and again just so I could listen to the epic ending theme! 40:23

Didn´t you know that you can go with the Yellow Shinobi over the water? The best Level choosing on the map is: Top Left, bottom right, Top Right, bottom Left.
+neogeomaster yeah yellow is ideal for the blue level, not only can you walk on water, but you can spam the boss too by jump I think one platform over and keep shooting.
@CockYaLegS Yes, back in the day I played Shinobi often. It was one of my few games but one of my favourites. At first I had no idea with which level I should start. It is still in my mind, the music, gameplay and boss fights. Years later I had a look on Shinobi 2, but was confused about the technic differences.
I remembered borrowing Game Gear from my friend to play this game. The 'standing on water' part brings back so much memories because that's where I die most.

The graphics for the time were very very good!!! Great game
Tip: each colored Ninja is made for each different level
Rescue Pink to use her in the Ship Stage as she can walk on walls
Then use Yellow to get Blue as Yellow can walk on Water with no problem
Then use Blue to rescue Green as he can swing from the trees
Is the final boss supposed to be Kain from Robocop 2?
Who knows? Then again, Sega really loved the RoboCop franchise given that they've referenced the movies in countless games.
And the references in question?
* E-SWAT is essentially an homage to the movie, and Dirty Duffy from the arcade game resembles RoboCop 1's antagonist, Clarence Boddicker.
* in Gain Ground, Cyborg is a dead ringer for RoboCop, and the final boss in the arcade version resembles ED-209.

But why didnt he use Yellow and Green's super move!? I wanted to see it to feel complete...this isnt complete w/o having show us their move with the animation.
I can't believe I finished this game on my broken game gear where you can only see the lower half of the screen. despite my Game Gear's condition still my favorite game for it.

First game I ever bought (not counting pack-in title Columns :-) ) for the Game Gear and I played it till it fell apart (figuratively speaking).
I played it in the right order (pink -> yellow etc.), I played it in completely random order, played it with just Red as much as possible and so on and so forth.
One of the best games for the Game Gear and also a game exclusive for the Game Gear.
Oh yeah the manual in Mega drive Revenge of Shinobi says you can choose where you start but I can't figure it out. Do you know what it means?

the logic of stage one is undeniable: ninja ends up from rooftop on flying plane, gets chased by helicopter and men exploding themselves on the plane hull. yeah, right. ;)

If i remember correctly---each color had a secondary ON ability. For example---Yellow could walk on water, which made him great for the water stage, and Blue could use the kusari-gama to swing in the wood stage
And Pink could crawl on the ceiling Spider-Man style
And Green could double jump!

The item that adds two bars to the health gauge, it'd be a whole lot easier to get all of them (one from each stage before the final stage).
Many of his sound effects were used in Batman Returns.

--which meant that the BEST order of play was to get PINK first--then use pink to get YELLOW--then use yellow to get BLUE--then use blue to get GREEN.

Actually, you can get the health+ item in Valley with Red, not that hard. In Harbor, you can get the health+ both with Green and Blue. Woodland is the only level where you can pick it up with only one Ninja.
IMO the most fun order is Valley>Woodland>Harbor>Highway

funny that you posted that since the GG Shinobi games were heavily influenced by the Super Sentai shows in Japan. Of course, the rest of the world would later get a taste of Super Sentai 2 years after GG Shinobi came out.

Oh right, and you did the levels completely in the wrong order.
Highway > Habor > Valley > Woodland:
- Pink is needed on Harbor to get the health crate with his ceiling walk
- Yellow is needed to get the valley one because he can walk on water
- Blue is needed to get the Woodland one using his chain swing.
Then you have 10 health bars :)

Which was better; Ninja Gaiden or Shinobi? I played both and can`t decide. While Shinobi was a longer game with 5 characters, Ninja Gaiden was very smooth, but short.
If you consider the GG versions, Shinobi by far. The GG Ninja Gaiden os the worst in the series, the Master System version is so much better.

Unusual way to play the game, missing a HP Boost or two (noticibly from Pink's level at the top of the right hand building) and going out of order (Normally Pink > Orange > Blue > Green), regardless, nice one.
