That was really nice. I first heard that song performed by Roger Miller about 1969. I liked his version. Then in February of 1971 I heard Janis' version as I was driving through San Bernardino from Las Vegas going to Hollywood. I loved her version. Later I liked Jerry Lee Lewis' version. Your version is as good as any of them. You are ready for Las Vegas.
How does this not have more likes? Great cover I can definitely feel the Janis Joplin and Bessie Smith influence in this, its sang as a blues song. Blues is BLOOD most will never get that and many covers don't get that part right. Well Done! As a HUGE Joplin fan Janis would definitely approve of this.
Very authetic, very faithful - the keyboardist didn't have a clue to the original keyboard track though. There was only one perfomance ever by Janis with a keyboard on this song and that was a studio recording with an unknown studio musician, (keyboardist(Stephen Ryder) but Sam Andrews (Big Brother and the Holding Company) did not want a piano in the band - so they never played that version again. But it was a screamin' keyboard number. Go figure...
a good rendition, please do another one of Janis Joplin's probably "piece of my heart". I like the gracefulness of the music, the way I like it, complementing the vocals but not overpowering. (y)
