Thanks for making this film. It's interesting to see how the style of bridge of the Armagh - Keady - Castleblayney line are similar to those on the Waterford - Wellington Bridge - Rosslare line. It would be great to see this line reopened even if the centre of Castleblayney is a bit cluttered.
Eamonn, how they were allowed to develop on the railway line routes is beyond me, would love to know who approved it and why..... We lost the ability to ever re-introduce them in most areas of the country as a result.. If the government didn't want to use them at the time then that was fine but to allow development and the right of way to be removed was crazy. These things were only possible years ago because people had no process to object and/or were probably more accepting of good infrastructural development in those days (That's another argument...LOL) but to try and approve or plan something like that now would be virtually impossible and cost more in legal fees & re-design than the actual construction itself. (Not in my back yard scenario...etc) Look at the national children's hospital project in Dublin for example, 3 times the original cost, 10 years later than expected and isn't in the best location as a result. There was either no forward planning for future railway needs, negligence or back handers..."Pick one".... The Castleblayney to Dundalk line was fully closed down in the 60's/70's, my mother remembers it well and she's not that old. It's only in the 90's that development approval occurred on the line so the planning office has a lot to answer for..... Interesting video...! www.irishidentity.com/extras/heritage/stories/railways.htm
I can’t see the Keady branch line reopening. The area around the line doesn’t look too populated apart from Keady, although I wouldn’t be opposed to reintroducing the railway into Castleblayney.
Great video. Imagine having the 1910 train infrastructure back in place on the island. That’s the dream.

They requisite the land under public works or take the land around the houses.

Reopening of the Railway line would bring back trains cut down on 1) Traffic Jams, 2) Car Accidents/Road Deaths & 3) Pollution.
They should re-open the line.
