Jon, listening to your story about talking to Ann Nixon Cooper had me in tears 🥰
My first election night as a campaign worker was... intense but I didn't realize how intense until the results were called. I burst into tears in front of people who had never seen me as anything but cool and collected. I had to leave the party and go home and I sobbed the whole way just to release all the emotions I didn't allow myself to process. This candidate won her first election. From then on, I don't attend parties with my candidate, I will plan something private for staff who don't want to be on tv.
People were so happy that November night in 2008, in spite of the doom and gloom in the country with the Iraq war and economic meltdown and job losses.

I was a volunteer for congressional race last year, did a few paid gotv shifts. Let me tell u it was most interesting 3 months I ever did. I was motivated and inspired throughout. But on Election Day, we just running on anxiety, we felt it from the volunteers to the staffers. We could feel the stress leaving the atmosphere as the race got close to call. I thought I could escape that stress in 2024, it was a lot. But knowing Trump is top contender and has a good chance, fudge, I need to start making peace that I need to do this again.

I'd love to subscribe but I'm an old person on a fixed income. Sadly, as much as we want age to not be an issue with the re-election of Biden, it is an issue with us old folks. We are still among the highest demographics of poverty. Especially old women alone.

PLEASE LISTEN! You guys need to combine the membership for the honest (mostly progressive, "fact-checked') social media, i Pod Save America, Politic Girl, TYT, Tell No Lies, Fair and Balanced, etc., etc. I can't afford all of you, but I would give you $15-$20 a month to support your effort. You need to get a movement for all of us. You need to combine the membership cost.
