My MGBGT starts getting some love after stripping old engine

  • Now that the temporary used engine for my MGBGT Autocrosser is out, we need a few parts from it in order to finish assembling the new performance engine to get it ready to drop in. We need the starter, distributor, cylinder head, timing cover, engine mounts, oil filter housing and hose, engine back plate, flywheel, and of course the Datsun 5 speed transmission conversion.
While we’ve got the engine out it is the perfect time to clean the engine compartment and undercarriage up from the oil that engine leaked out, and start preparing all the parts we took off to put back in with the new engine. Once the head is off we take it apart and look at the valves before sending it out to the machine shop to be checked out and skimmed.
Remember to leave a comment if you want me to do a video detailing all the modifications I have done to some of these parts for weight reduction and a bit of extra power, as well as look at the intake and header I built for it.

Hmmm my engine is leaking like sieve, my engine bay is needing a refresh, looking like I need to pull the motor as you say over on your side of the pond. 👍

Your small chamber - big valve head ---- must be from a certain year -- and will that year or years fit onto a '69 MGB-GT? --- Have not taken my engine apart yet --- maybe something to think about for a little more power ------ Yes -- I for one would like to hear more on the modifications you did on your engine ---- those intake manifolds --- making your exhaust --- whatever else you may have done ---- The Datsun 5-speed conversion sounds nice --- BUT --- probably expensive --- For me -- I would like to see what things I can do myself that you may offer ---- like that Head --- a slight Port and Polish --- say matching ports ----- de-burring inside the engine / sharp edges better oil flow ---- Will check and see what the trans conversion costs out of curiosity --- but if you get enough people interested in ---- What modifications one can do ---- I'd like to see and hear more about them ----- Thank You again for the video ----- Hope you have a Good Easter ----- Rodney

The small chamber big valve head in the US was ‘72-‘74 only (getting hard to find anymore as they have been sought after for years) you can put the bigger valve into any of the heads, but the ‘75 and later heads (also small chamber, but smaller valves in the US) is the most prone to cracking due to the induction hardening exhaust seats. You can put a later ‘72 and up head on a ‘69 but you need the exhaust valve cutouts in the top of the block if you do.

This car does not have an oil cooler? Is that on purpose?

Yes, Autocross runs are not long enough to get the oil hot enough to need one. Where I live one really isn’t needed for normal use as I’m not in one of the hotter weather states. I decided to not carry the extra weight of one since I was trying to get weight out of the front of the car anyway
