  • Packed up Damien's boat and heading to Hervey Bay for an overnight trip, camping in the boat. We arrived to perfect weather and pushed our way up the island in search of whatever we could find. Unfortunately, all the reefs were lifeless except for the ever-present shark population. Luckily, the tuna and spotty mackerel were on the job and we had a great time catching bulk tuna.
The next day, we were greeted by rain and a solid 1m swell generated by an evil south westerly wind. Our plans of going wide were out the window now, so we headed south back to more sheltered waters.
There we found more tuna and mackerel, along with a couple queenfish and a long squid. All in all, a tough but fun and productive trip away.
I think this is a warm up for a bigger trip further north in the near future!

Great video Peter! Looked like plenty of action there on the second day too even though the weather was average. Keep it up mate 👍🎣

Cheers mate, doubt I’ll get sick of tuna smashing a lure on the top.
Weather changed the trip but still fun!

Yeah mate, didn’t see any tbh.
      Very small tides 🤷‍♂️.
They all fight same I guess but longtail is pretty good eating for some!

Bit unrelated mate, but i was wondering what size baitcaster you would reccomend for the bay? Ive only ever really fished spin, but im wanting a baitcaster to use for snapper and jew in the bay and out wide, only fishing lures and vibes. thought youd be the best person to ask haha, cheers.

In the bay any size will probably be fine but if you are going to do the odd offshore fish, I bigger reel will hold plenty of braid. I have been using a revo beast for awhile now and seems a good thing. That or a 300 size Shimano or Daiwa mate.

Go the gosa! What size? 5k or 6k?

5k mate. My shop had now 6k in stock. Solid cheap reel. If I used that type of reel more, I’d suss a certate or something. Damo is happy with his certate.
