    In my opinion, the recording of the Brahms Piano Concerto No. 2 by Gilels and Jochum is the gold standard. The poignancy and heartbreaking beauty of the Andante makes me weep uncontrollably every time I hear it.

    Possibly the most beautiful cello melody ever written. A spectacular movement from an incredible performance of one of the best piano concertos ever written.

    El Andante, en un rasgo de genio, presenta el delicado primer tema en un solo del violonchelo que anuncia un Lied escrito más tarde (Immer leiser wird mein Schlummer, Op. 105, núm. 2). El solista hace su aparición entonces con unos arpegios a partir de los cuales aborda una melodía nueva, en el espíritu de un nocturno. Sin embargo, esa tranquilidad acabará desvaneciéndose en un episodio crispado y lleno de violencia, tras el cual retorna la calma y se establece un clima de serenidad estática, contemplativa, en el que el mismísimo tiempo parece detenerse. Al final de este episodio regresa el violonchelo con su melodía del inicio, ornamentada en este punto por el piano. Este instrumento también recordará su entrada, acompañado en este caso por el violonchelo, de forma que parece que estemos asistiendo a un doble concierto.

    Estupendo, antenoche un pianista destrozó este mismo concierto en la sala Neza de México. No entiendo cómo se atreven a tocar algo así sin dominarlo...
