Scammers & criminals have just adapted to new technology, that's all, the old scams are still around, just modernized. Door-to-door scams used to be salesmen, now it's impersonating authorities; e-mail scams used to be in magazines, letters or telegrams; phone scams are still phone scams. On the bright side, though, now phones can be shut off, blocked or caller ID'd, texts can be deleted and/or unanswered. It should be easier to less gullible now than it used to be.
Actually, older people should be more aware of these scams than many younger people, bc there really aren't any scams/cons that haven't always been around in one form or another.
@@hopscotchc6n the old ladies are SOOOOO desperate for a man that all it takes is someone online to say I love you darlin just once & the lady gives them all the cash she has.😕
I also got the same call from those same people about my old Dell computer. 😁The guy wanted me to log on to my computer so that he could “fix” the problems I was having, but I wasn’t logged on when he called. In fact, I was in the middle of mopping my kitchen floor and told him I was busy doing housework and didn’t have time to log on. Oh, but he was very persistent and was getting angry at me because I refused to log on my computer and go through his guided steps to “fix” my PC problems. By his tone of voice and his urgency, I got a bad feeling about him and began to dislike his attitude. I was set on not logging in and doing as he wished, so now, he began talking much older and more demanding. I finally told him to stop bothering me and to go find something constructive to do with his time, instead of trying to make money by lying and scamming people. I hung up on him! Sorry you lost all that money. That’s awful. I hope there is some way you can get your money back.
They target the elderly where thought processes are a bit slower. They scare them and that is the emotion. When someone reports it, nothing happens until a lot of people report the same problem. Don't hold back; report anything right away. I was victimized by a family stopping at my home and requesting money to get to Miami and yet had a temp California plate for a brand new SUV. The woman barged into my house because we are elderly and disabled. She kept trying to sell crap jewelry. She scouted our entire house and kept opening dresser drawers to dump the jewelry. I was scared that the family would return and either squat or steal or claim we stole that crap jewelry. We were not even in the house but in the yard working. What happened when reported? We are in fear as zero happened.
The scamming is just horrendous! To protect the elder family members I would educate them on a daily basis. For those with Dementia or Alzheimer’s it is a good idea to get them an iPhone if they don’t already have one and setup the Accessibility which limits what they have access to on their phone and you can also setup who they can receive calls from, so they will no longer receive scam calls! 😊
