Your analysis is spot on and I couldn’t agree more. With PTX it’s not just the singing. The entire process is done with extraordinary attention to detail and the arrangement, videography and everything else is always on point.
Not only are their arrangements brilliant, but the fullness of the sound is what is so amazing. I find that it is hard for me to listen to originals after hearing their versions simply because there is so much rich texture to the music. Not better - just a preference for me in terms of depth and richness.
This is one of my favorite covers they've ever done! I feel like anything I suggest you've probably seen haha but since you like to see Kirstin showcased ill suggest their cover of Say Something *Also, as a side note, I REALLY appreciate reactors like you who know music. I love being able to watch a performance I've seen 20 times and learn about the arrangement/vocal side of it. Thank you!!
Don't feel bad about thinking PTX's versions of songs are better than the originals. A lot of people feel the same. In fact it is the most common thread of PTX reactors. Thanks again for the very enjoyable reaction.
I liked this comparison. I enjoy your musical knowledge and am grateful you are sharing it. I too am a singer, both solo and choral. If you’d like to do another you could try Come Along. The original is by Cosmo Sheldrake and PTX did a cover. It is a fun song.
Uh oh. You just said, "I almost like their version better." You're in danger. Pentaholism is very contagious. And since you're musical, you don't have antibodies against it.
i don't think Avi helped pick Matt, i saw in an interview that it was Ben Bram (their arranger) who picked him, he was also the person who picked Avi when they needed a bass in the begining, maybe that's why there is confusion and people think Avi picked him, Matt also had to audition to get in the group and learn i don't know how many songs over a weekend acording to them!!
Yep! I loved Avi, but Matt is a more than capable replacement, and he just looks like he's having SO. MUCH. FUN! when he's singing with them. It's adorable.
So hard to believe there's only 5 people much better of the time! As far as Matt & Avi, I totally miss Avi's personality and voice but Matt has a beautiful voice and just beams when he performs with them! He's great to hear & fun to watch! 💖 I do miss Avi's occasional overtones, but few people have that ability.
I'm not sure what Pentatonix songs you're familiar with that Matt is in.. They just released a cover of The Weekend's "Blinding Lights"! They were going crazy being in quarantine and having to stop right in the middle of their world tour before they began their European leg so they decided to find some songs they enjoyed over some kind of virtual chat room and the five of them arranged covers of five songs and did a medley of songs that sing about home since we are all home now. At any rate they bought microphones and learned new software and saying their parts into their iPhones from their individual homes and sent it all to Ben Bram for the production part of it. It's really uplifting to see people finding ways to do positive things even during quarantine so you might enjoy checking out what they did with "Blinding Lights" !? What kind of boggled my mind about it is they couldn't hear each other when they were recording their part and it's a very heavy Rhythm and bass arrangement. That's hard to do when you don't hear the other guy and you're part of the Rhythm Section. I don't know how Kevin and Matt sound so good when they couldn't hear each other when they were laying their own track? And the harmonies are unbelievable because they sound beautiful and yet they couldn't hear each other.. so they must really have gotten to where they know what to expect from the other band members.. because that's hard ! I used to sing all of the possible ways available in high school including acapella and you need to hear each other ! Anyway, it turned out absolutely amazing when Ben put all of their contributions together!
Cheers once again for a great reaction Josh - second PTX video off the EP (for Blinding Light) was released today if you haven't been notified yet. Hope to see you react to that one too !
If you want to literally hear then side by side, than you should see Mike Babbage's remix, with PTX on the left channel, and Charlie Puth on the right. He adjusted the pitch on one of the recordings by a half step (so they are in the same key) and very slightly tweaked the speed (so they are the same BPM) and the results are spectacular, especially after the bridge. It appears to have been removed from youtube (looks like his entire channel disappeared), but it you find it somewhere, definitely give it a listen. Edit: I found it (was looking in the wrong place). The link is th-cam.com/video/OhuYphuE5Bw/w-d-xo.html
You must see Kirstie’s EP “LOVE”! It’s all her originals! It’s wonderful! Re: low notes... listen to “Can’t Help Falling In Love” ! They do it in a slow 4 instead of 6/8 adding poignancy to the piece. The bell tones in the arrangement! The last chord is a stunning A9 chord stretching out the overtones. It’s all anchored by a 3rd ledger-line bass line A! The group sounds like an organ!
I always forget how good this is. I heard the PTX version before the original. When I did hear the original I was so disappointed in it, PTX just set a higher bar. As for them being so young, going right back to when the Trio (Scott, Kirstie & Mitch) where in High School, they did a couple songs, one of which was Telephone and the arrangement for that was felt so clever too, I can't remember the other song. It makes me think that either they have a natural gift for it, or they had a really great music/choir teacher when young. I can't remember if those vids were on Scott's channel or somewhere else now, sadly he made all his old stuff private to launch his first proper solo release (in August/Sept) "Mars" (I guess he took a leaf out of Mitch's book because he did the same when he launched his Messer project) . Then Ben Bram came on board after Scott met him in college, he was with them through the sing-off and ever since, and he plays a big part in arrangements etc. They all still seem so young and they've done so much, we've watched them as they've matured from just post High School for the Trio & post college for KO & Avi, to where they are now. Most of them are in various stages of marriage & having kids (KO & Matt both got married, KO & his wife has a baby, as does Kirstie now, and Scott just got engaged). If you've not seen/heard Mars yet, you should check it out. Also idk how much of Sup3rfruit (Mitch & Scott) you've seen, if any, but they have some a welcome stuff on there. Also, Scott with Mario Jose singing "Lost On You" to Hans Zimmerman's music, is epic. If you can find it, Mitch covering Billie Eilish's "Your Power" is stunning too. Actually, so much stunning solo stuff from both of them put there. Kevin has some great stuff under his K.O. channel, such as Down, Sign of the Times, etc. Andnof course, Avi has some beautiful solo stuff out now too.
I really enjoyed this reaction, thankyou very much. Have you every listened to anything by Voiceplay? They do a wonderful version of Warriors, but I love all of it
I love Voice Play and I have seen this one, actually. It's one of my favorites! But there are definitely a bunch I haven't seen. Tennessee Whiskey is on my list to react to. Others you would suggest?
@@SingerDadReacts Tennessee Whiskey is wonderful, but I also love Just Sing which they did with a bunch of others during the pandemic and any of their ACA sets. They have an ACA top 10 Broadway that is great :)
I do love Voctave but I’ve already seen that one. It is amazing. Kate Lott... just WOW! There are others I haven’t seen though so maybe give me your top five and we’ll find one.
Glad you found them and love them as much as I do . They are truly masters at their craft. As a Jazz Piano Player I can appreciate what it is they do, and what it takes to do some of the things they do. I will only recommend one of their songs " O come all ye faithful... it actually features one of the guys ( What??? no the sopranos...lol). What he does at the end ( to me ) is just amazing. While I am throwing you a suggestion. Give "Voiceplay" a listen They have a Moana Medley featuring Rachel Potter, or if you would like to hear one of the deepest notes you ever hear sung, take a listen to Oogie Boogie's Song. i could not believe my ears at the very end. Anyway, You don't need to do a reaction video to these suggestions, I offer them purely out of love for music, Just enjoy Thank you, by the way for reacting to Dimash, SoHyang and as a jazz lover, Angelina Jordan. I love all of them . They are amazing artists and exemplify great Musicianship. Hard to find these days.

Kirsten really shines in Rather Be. It’s been a few years ago but she leads & her lower register is beautiful in that one. Here’s a 2min behind the scenes of Attention. th-cam.com/video/iN0rb1y5XKY/w-d-xo.html
Hi there. Briliant reaction. I eill ask you kindly if you can do a reaction to Hall of Fame by The Script ft. Will i am. Before you next PTX. Please. 👍
I really liked the tone of this cover. The tone of the original seemed like it was pining and was stuck in a bad relationship. This version seemed very defiant and strong.
Love your insight, but could you please consider backing up a few minutes after you pause so you don't miss little moments that are amazing??you paused right in the middle of a cool vocal part then didn't go back to hear it when you unpaired.I was really interested in what you would think of that moment, but it was sadly missed.😕thanks.✌
Hmmm, interesting. PTX's *arrangement* was very good, I'll agree. Those jazz figures they hit were epic! However... To me, they completely missed the plot in terms of the emotion of the song. It felt more like they were just bopping along, having a good time. There was no pain in it like there was in his.
I think she has improved more then anyone in the group from Sing off till now
Definitely. I've noticed it especially since her stint on Broadway.
Kevin has learned to sing, from singing like a kindergardenkid to be a decent tenor, trained by Avi. They worre roommates on their tours.
Your analysis is spot on and I couldn’t agree more. With PTX it’s not just the singing. The entire process is done with extraordinary attention to detail and the arrangement, videography and everything else is always on point.

CourtneyLiz1220 Or Rather Be
i guess I am quite randomly asking but does anybody know of a good website to stream newly released series online ?
One of my favorites with Matt is "Havana". The harmonies are just gorgeous.
Don't feel bad about thinking PTX's versions of songs are better than the originals. A lot of people feel the same. In fact it is the most common thread of PTX reactors. Thanks again for the very enjoyable reaction.
Yes, I find that a lot. PTX's version of a song is usually my favourite version
I liked this comparison. I enjoy your musical knowledge and am grateful you are sharing it. I too am a singer, both solo and choral. If you’d like to do another you could try Come Along. The original is by Cosmo Sheldrake and PTX did a cover. It is a fun song.
Ohh i fully agree. Music nerds should appreciate it as Cosmo seems to be a nerd himself 😁
It is a fun song indeed 😆
Their version has this vibrant twist to it, but I came to like the original quite a bit.
I absolutely LOVE the cover they did of this song, it’s probably my favourite PTX song
Uh oh. You just said, "I almost like their version better." You're in danger. Pentaholism is very contagious. And since you're musical, you don't have antibodies against it.

The more I listen to Matt, the more I accept Avi's departure
I am a die-hard Avi fan, but yes. I was so glad when I finally heard songs with Matt and realized they really found someone fantastic.
Yep! I loved Avi, but Matt is a more than capable replacement, and he just looks like he's having SO. MUCH. FUN! when he's singing with them. It's adorable.
Matt is getting more lead vocal time, too.
Another great one. Hello everyone
Hey Sean 😃

I just reacted to this and will be posting the video later today. I agree they are at an unbelievable level of musicianship and skill.
Some suggestions: Gold, Come Along, New Rules x Are You That Somebody?, No, Happy Now, and Kirsten's new release, Be My Eyes! Have fun...
The final chorus with Mitch is the final touch for me, sooooo f***ing good. ♥️🙌🏻

Chromatic drop, chromatic slide. I heard it from 2 or 3 other reactors and they all said it was hard to do. But PTX seemed to do it effortlessly
Could you please react to Steam Powered Giraffes-Honeybee or Hot on the Trail. They are very different and interesting. Thanks !!!
