The damper doesn’t allow you to close off airflow as the video describes. The holes that are in front of the damper used to guide the “clips” still allow air in even if you close the damper off to 100%. The housing needs a redesign.
I'm having a tough time fitting the adapter plates into the Kamado Joe 3. The larger plate doesn't fit the curve of the vent track. The smaller plate doesn't span the vertical height of the vent hole. I'll keep trying but it's confusing
Just purchased one and about to use it for the first time. Using on a Kamadoe Joe. I'm a rookie though. Should I light my grill and get up to temp with the fan attached? Should I light the grill with the fan off, then attach and turn on to get up to temp? What are the pro tips here for when to start using the fan?
This really comes down to a matter of preference. We generally recommend that folks bring their fire up to temp before adding the fan, which would act more as a temperature maintenance device, but some folks use a fan to help reach temp. Be careful of overshooting if that's your style. Check out the Setup & Implementation Tips - Overshooting info on our Knowledge Base for some insight. Thank you for choosing FireBoard! docs.fireboard.io/drive/index.html#Setup-amp-Implementation-Tips-Overshooting
I got my FIreboard 2 Drive the end of July and am still learning. But I like to use it to get my Kamado Joe up to temperature. If I want a cook temperature of 250, I have the initial temperature at 200 and make slight adjustments after that. Hope that helps.
Looking forward to more adapters in the future, will be great not having to use adapters from other companies. Keep up the great work Fireboard, awesome products!
you mention adapters. on the drive blower page its mentions the lg/xl and sm/md adapters but doesnt say if it comes with it, which i assume it does considering you have to spend $140 to get fan control. hopefully the nozzle and ball adapter will come with the fan when those get released also. talking about that its my understanding that paying the extra $60 for the fireboard 2 drive is so you dont need to buy an $80-$90 cable but it still has the port for the cable. if thats the case then how is the fan controlled?
They include a “universal” small/medium and a “universal” large/extra large adapter plate. 2 plates. Seems like it wouldn’t be too much to ask to include 4 plates. S, M, L, & XL, for probably no more than another 15¢ cost for the extra 2 plates. (maybe 60¢ to a buck at most retail.) Seriously, come on Fireboard.
To b e fair, I only know of one kettle that even comes with a port for one, and most people probably aren't willing to drill a hole in their kettle for it. He did say a ball valve adapter was coming though. The BBQ Guru pit viper / ball adapter will work with the Fireboard in the meantime.
@@praetorxyn I actually purchased the pit Viper from BBQ Guru, because like you said people aren't willing to drill a hole in their grill. Although, if fireboard had the right configuration for my Weber Summit Charcoal grill, then they would made a bigger sale!
Jose Mario They're a startup, so give 'em time. It's worth pointing out that BBQ Guru won't honor the warranty on any of their products if you don't use it with their own controllers, which are all inferior to the FireBoard 2 Drive IMO. I have a Kettle, but even if I drilled a hole it wouldn't do me much good as my damper blades are warped upward (one of them especially so) and the lid leaks smoke all around. I am pretty damn close to pulling a trigger on the SnS Deluxe Kamado though, so I just ordered the FireBoard blower and some extra probes after watching this video. I think the plates they come with will fit the bottom vent on that just fine. If not, I can always get the Pit Viper and Kamado adapter, though I'm not the biggest fan of the Guru Kamado adapter, I don't like that clip on design.
@@praetorxyn I looked into ceramic style grills but I ended up purchasing a Weber Summit Charcoal instead because of the space and versatility. I am super happy with my purchase and never looked back. If, this interests you, look into it . I think babyback maniac did an extensive review on both of this grills and to me the choice was clear!
Jose Mario I'm not paying $2000 for a grill with plastic back wheels, leg stubs to attach the same hard to remove ash basket my kettle has because Weber couldn't be arsed to do a design for it that didn't attach without reusing the same kettle leg design (so it just looks really tacky, and I hate how hard that ash basket is to remove), and especially the customer service nightmare Justin had with it when his gasket started leaking. If I was going to get a metal Kamado, I'd get the Blaze even if it's so much more expensive (if you get the cart and shelves at least - the Blaze by itself is cheaper than the summit and the build quality on it makes the summit look like a toy in comparison) The SnS one us designed around the Slow N Sear so it fits basically every 22" kettle accessory, can be used as a traditional Kamado, can use the Slow N Sear to overcome the "Kamados are too efficient" problem when cooking low and slow, and just seems like the most versatile without stepping up to Komodo Kamado prices; hell, the SnS one is $300 cheaper than the Classic Joe III while beinf 4" larger in diameter for more cooking space. I may buy a KK at some point, but not now.
Many users find that the 20 CFM fan is more than enough! Please reach out to info@fireboard.com if you have further questions and our team will be happy to help!
Just bought the fireboard 2 drive with fan. Small adapter doesn’t really fit properly on my Grilla Grills Kong. Hopefully they’ll have more adapters for more smoker brands.
The Drive Blower can handle the rain, but we would not recommend leaving it attached year round. As with many similar devices, continuous exposure to the elements could cause issues.
@@manny4491 You can do it! The system is as simple or complicated as you want it to be. Plus, if you run into a snag, our customer support team is top notch!
Just got the whole set up for Father’s Day. My air restrictor plate on the fan is so loose I can’t close it at all. Its open 100%, If I flip it upside down then it’s closed 100%. What’s the point?
A quick search makes me think one of the included Blower adapter plates might work, as the vent appears to be similar to a kamado style. Check out the specs and give your vent a measure to determine if it will fit: docs.fireboard.io/drive/blower.html#main

@@FireBoardLabs I checked that. Even without an adapter it's too big to fit. Fortunately, I'm planning on buying an actual smoker, but I'm not sure it'll fit that, either. Any idea on whether it'll work with an Oklahoma Joe Highland?
I believe that's doable but requires a bit of tinkering depending on your preference and the specific vent style! My offset has sort of large pinwheel style vent, so I used the nozzle adapter: vent opened to allow adapter install in one opening at the bottom of the pinwheel, and blocked off the remaining openings with high-heat tape and foil. It's also possible to hook the blower rails themselves or with an adapter plate attached inside the vent then close the vent as much as possible to keep it firmly in place. Then block any remaining openings on the vent as needed.
Is there adaptor plates for a 57cm Weber Smokey Mountain?
also wanna see a bracket for the akorn.. bought both but might have to get the viper fan as it's much smaller

What is the link for the adapter for the webber kettle? Cannot seem to find it. Just wanna make sure I have the right one.
are these adaptor plates going to be included with the purchase of the fan?
The two plates shown were in the bottom of the box the fan came in. Take our the cardboard the fan is resting on and look to the bottom of the box.
