    Grew up as a child loving his music, I think his singing of the theme for "Four Feather Falls" did it, was so sad as I grew up to learn he had died far to early - like all to many

      Me too, the mums loved him on the radio mostly.
      I listened to Four Feather Falls only two weeks ago
      He always suffered from severe stage fright as I do too
      It harmed his career which stalled because of his phobia and I suppose if you're having a great career on both sides of the Atlantic and suddenly you realise you could lose it all it must be devastating
      He suffered from mental health problems because of it and died in 1962/3 aged 38 from an overdose
      I'm up again onstage on October 18th doing stand up comedy it's been ten months, I'm very nervous but I'll be thinking of him when I get up there

    This reminds me of when there were real singers. And they were refined. I remember when Michael sang "The Story of My Life"; and I saw him in a film with Shirley Eaton and the Crazy Gang. Those certainly were the days.

    A tremendous talent who had a way with covers and original material, not unlike Matt Monro and Tony Perkins. He is greatly missed.

    This is one of the earliest songs I can remember as a 5 year old around Dec 1959, my dad used to encourage me to wake up early morning to listen to a jazz tune called Oranges and Lemons which was the opening start tune on radio at about 5:30am in 1959, possibly BBC Light programme the next record was Michael Holliday's Starry Eyed , a nice song always remembered also issued on 78 at the time.

    Brilliant rare footage of Michael, Michael was a very shy and retiring singer ,who hated being watched when singing according to Gerry Anderson's commentary on the "Four feather Falls "dvd .Michael sang a few songs for the Gerry Anderson western puppet series in 1960,check them out on You tube.

    On this day in 1960 {January 29th} Michael Holliday's covered version of "Starry Eyed" peaked at #1* {for 1 week} on the United Kingdom's Singles chart...
    Two months earlier on November 9th, 1959 the original version of "Starry Eyed" by Gary Stites peaked at #77 {for 1 week} on the USA's Billboard's Top 100 chart...
    Between 1956 and 1960 the Liverpool, England native had ten records on the U.K. Singles chart, three made the Top 10, with two reaching #1, "The Story of My Life" in January of 1958 and the above his "Starry Eyed"...
    Besides his two #1 records, his third Top 100 record was "Stairway of Love" at #3 in May of 1958...
    Sadly, Michael Holliday, born Norman Alexander Milne, passed away at the young age of 38 on October 29th, 1963...
    May he R.I.P.
    * And from the 'For What It's Worth' department; the remainder of the Top 10 on the UK Singles chart for January 29th, 1960:
    #2. "Why" by Anthony Newley
    #3. "What Do You Want To Make Those Eyes At Me For?" by Emile Ford & Checkmates
    #4. "Voice In The Wilderness" by Cliff Richard And The Shadows
    #5. "Way Down Yonder In New Orleans": by Freddie Cannon
    #6. "Heartaches By The Number" by Guy Mitchell
    #7. "What Do You Want?" by Adam Faith {a tie}
    #7. "Oh! Carol" by Neil Sedaka {a tie}

    Micheal chatted to my Mom and Dad a hotel in Blackpool in the late fifties and it wasn't until he left that they were told who he was.
    They remember him fondly and say what a real gentleman he was.

      Sadly (and in defiance of all logic), no. In the States, it was a hit for Gary Stites on the Carlton label. Michael's version wasn't even released in the States. Gary Stites was a decent enough singer, but Michael Holliday OWNS this masterpiece. Absolute, utter perfection.
