    Enjoyed the Terrence Malick reference, love his work.
    I just found you a couple of weeks ago and really like your content. So refreshing to have a channel that’s not about the person, but the work. And your work is excellent.
    I started with your first video, and am now up to “Behind the scenes of Documentary Filmmaking. On set.”
    Would like to more of your perspective on this, a behind the scenes of an actual interview. For example, an interview with a metal sculptor. Research, prep notes, how the interview flows, with flubs, stops, gems, repeats, everything. Just to get a feel for what that’s like. Then a quick edit - the story, the best takes, and whittling it down. What you’re looking for as it comes together.
    Keep up the great work, and best of luck.

    How do you get your talents comfortable in front of the camera? I find most of the time people tend to act unnatural when they have a camera pointed at them. I feel that having that raw natural reaction and emotion is a big part of what makes a documentary.

    • @markbone
      @markbone  4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      You must spend lots of time without the camera around them and then also film them lots when it doesn't matter so they get used to the camera being around. Use the sandwich schedule, I talk a bunch about this in some of the documentary videos I posted back in August :)

    Hey Mark. Is was wondering how you make sure that your interview has seamless cuts later. Not these hard cuts in the standard TH-cam video talking head style where there are these „skip“ moves in the cut, because there is just peace after peace edited. I mean with all the footage that is unusable (e.g. think pauses, handheld nonfocused footage, uninteresting details ...) After cutting out all that, how do you prevent these „skips“? With 2 steady cams you have always the possibility to cut even during a sentence seamless, but when you Maybe only have one camera and want to make it handheld? Thanks 🙏🏾

    • @markbone
      @markbone  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TH-cam is a different style of filmmaking. it's rushed and fast paced. In order to avoid "jump cuts" you either need good b-roll, a second camera angle to hide the cut or some extra "details" like shots of their hands or an angle where you can't see their mouth or just some slow motion b-roll of the character sitting in the interview not talking. Watch my film on my website markbone.com for Mercedes Benz called Painted with Love, you'll see what I'm talking about

Currently shooting with the Deity V Mic D3 Pro which will work in the interim but I’m curious which microphone you would recommend. I shoot both indoors and outdoors so looking for one that’ll work in just about any situation. Again, thank you annnnnnd #GIMMEDATGIMBLE.

    Love your content Mark! When shooting your B-cam handheld like that, how often are you switching between subjects head versus their hands or body language?? Just kinda go back and forth for options in post I assume?? Keep up all the good work!! #gimmedatgimbal

    Hey, quick question: do you use autofocus for the A cam on sticks or is there someone operating it?

    Great video! I can't find your shotgun mic on amazon and might be a bit too expensive. Any recommendations in the $300-400 range?
    Drop an amazon ref link if you want!
