The hardest part of this video was not being able to reach in and free the rein on the end of the bit where it kept getting caught up on the bridle strap above when the horse tossed its head. The stable trooper corrected it when talking to the guardsman but it got caught again next time the horse tossed its head and he didn't notice it again. Great coverage LC. Mad crowds in all the rain.
Thanks for the time stamps. Helpful for those in charge of horse guards in analyzing everything that happened during filming. I'm relieved that the signs were changed to not touch the horse. I bet the horses are grateful too.
Good for the King's Guard for yelling at the crowd to stand back. As soon as they did, the horse calmed down quite a bit. Those people were so noisy!!!😡
There are a lot of people who know nothing about horses, and have possibly never seen one in real life, so they have no idea how to behave around them. People calling the kid a brat, or rude when he was simply trying to avoid the horse biting him are the ones being a little ridiculous.
Hope his Mom finally realizes she has a son who will do a lot of stupid things in his lifetime! What a crazy decision to go around the horse like that!

It is rarely safe to get behind a horse in a restricted area..if it us not used to you... that could have Ended very badly if the horse kick out behind it!
When the French schoolchildren arrived (accompanied by their very young teacher who obviously didn't know how to control them and anticipate the danger the children were in, standing so close to a very very agitated horse), i don't think it was the Ministry of Defense police officer who shouted at them to stand back. I didn't see any MOD officers coming to the box, until after the event. Judging by the voice and accent, i think it was Buska who shouted, re-inforcing what the trooper had said. The trooper also told them that the horse could kill them (but obviosuly, the children didn't understand). So Buska to the rescue, again😀😀😀 He always knows when it's high time to intervene from the side with clueless or disorganized groups like the French children were. That was one EXCELLENT re-inforcement, shouted out! The trooper on the horse is one of my favorite troopers. I've seen him before but mostly as a gateman or as a chitsman, rarely as a boxman. This time, he did one heck of a job, to calm that horse down for 35 minutes non-stop, counted on the watch!☺☺☺
The horse's are so Precious and Adorable and I really don't like how the people really like to make the horses agitated I still think they need to have a police person or even a guard with the guards on the horses to keep the tourist in line
The parents of the Brat that let him run inside the box in back of the horse 1. Need their heads examined for letting the Brat do it. 2. Should be fined for letting him do it. 3. The brat could have been kicked, and would have been the parents fault, not the Guard or horses fault.
Makes me wonder also, if they were hoping horse would kick their kid or something, then try to sue. Now days, I wouldn't put it past anyone to do that.

If a horse became unsettled then imagine it hemmed in by a chain? It seems to be edging towards permanent barriers but the front is a public right of way legally.. The Arch is private property..
Sorry I didn’t mean where the horses are the arches where the lifeguard stands between them and the little kiosk. That older gentleman does a good job trying to stop them, not in front where the guard and horses are.
I really don't think people realise .. or care, the King's Guard isn't there for your amusement. They are military and carry out a serious role. Even touching the horse is a very serious matter. Who creeps around behind a strange horse? Lucky it didn't kick him into the middle of next week, or worse.
@@John-G I work in Intelligence and UK Security. It's a ceremonial duty but they are still working. If someone were to try to attack the building or in any way pose a threat they would still act - with force. Being seated on a horse is neither here nor there. People seem to view them as some kind of live action ornaments... they're not.

Of course they're "still working", but their work at Horseguards is Public Duties. That's what the MoD, the Army, the Household Division, Household Cavalry, and HCMR all give as their role - Public Duties - and I doubt if they're all wrong. Public Duties are also what I did for two weeks in every eight for my first two years in the military. If you don't know what Public Duties are, and you clearly don't, you can find it detailed in the Strategic Defence Review, Future Soldier, or summarised in the Future Soldier Guide on Page 96. "If someone were to try to attack the building or in any way pose a threat" it's the MoD Police's direct responsibility to deal with it - that's why they're there, equipped as they are, and why they've been there since 2015, and that's what they're equipped to do. It is absolutely NOT why the King's Life Guard are there, and they're NOT equipped to deal with it in any way if attacked. They're unarmed, their horses aren't trained in the same way police horses are, most of the troopers are comparatively novice riders, and they're wearing ceremonial armour that limits their movement and vision. In the event of any attack or threat the ceremonial guard are simply a liability and they move to the stables, out of the way. That's not knocking them or looking down on their job in any way, it's simply how the responsibilities are broken down for what I would have thought were very obvious reasons. All due respect to your experience in "Intelligence and UK Security" at the checkout in Sainsbury's, but that isn't how it works.

Amazing horsemanship, I wonder is it a young horse? The crowds were upsetting him however the guard did an amazing job, being persistent making him circle and stand, I noticed the bit was off, of course he was fighting the bit to get his own way, but didn't get away with anything. Towards the end I noticed the curb chain hanging at one side, I wonder if they had to tighten it a bit because he's prone to acting up. Either way I really admire the guard being firm the whole time. Annoying to watch tourists still trying to get a photo with a horse that's cleary freaking out at them being in his face
They should put the swing gets across the arches so it's a proper barrier but easy for the kings guards to push open to go through etc. the Cain where it's placed is good but the barrier I mean is for the arches next to the little shop.
I cannot believe that the guard did not shout at that child going behind the horse. The child really needed to understand the danger he put himself in.

I had my own business for 40 years and nearly burned out just before Covid restrictions that closed tourism businesses in my area for the year, and part of the next. At that time I realized that EVERYONE dealing directly with people had the same problems. Once businesses could open again, I closed mine permanently and I have never been happier. People changed through the years and became more difficult to please every year.

Inside those uniforms there is a real live young man or woman. Arrogant tourist need to think about how those guards feel when their stupid behavior puts him/her/horse in danger of injury. Also, it takes a lot of self control to stay still and keep the horse happy when people act out or are rude. Tourists seem to forget that and think the guards are there as a tourist attraction.
It's the bit in his mouth ,,keeps twisting on the right side ,,guard assistant came out fixed it and the horse twisted it again before the assistant left but he didn't notice !!!!
It's also good if filmers can learn to recognize this ,,the bit in their mouths tends to raise up higher on one side than the other when the horse tries to bite together and can't ...
Where I live petting zoos are popular. I just wonder whenever the public sees an animal among the public that they think that's an invitation to touch them. Especially when adults encourage the child to touch the animal. Also, if you show animals at County or State Fairs and you are walking your animal from the barn to the show ring and back - you have to watch the public to make sure everyone is safe and your animal is safe. People without experience in being around animals can be problematic.

The second slap shall inform the horse about a displacement of weight? Sorry but that's a lovely romantic fairy-tale for tourists, in my opinion. Why? To this some questions first: do you believe that it would be possible to ride a horse, as we see it at horse guards, if the horses have to be warned about every displacement of weight during riding? Do we see the horses batting any eyelid when the troopers dismount? Why is only one horse warned, how do the others know the moment of dismount? My answer: if a horse is as sensible about weight displacement, it is hardly to ride, because riding includes a permanent (less or more) weight displacement; one had to warn the horse the whole time while riding. The trooper stands a few seconds on one stirrup before slapping; the horse would then be warned a f t e r the displacement - that makes no sense. Therefore the slapping must have another reason. So when I reflect a bit and querry me what a military unit makes function properly, I think of drill, orders and obedience, signals, signs, flags and gestures. An order must be given clearly so that it can be understood and executed correctly - by e v e r y soldier. In our case one trooper has to to ride a bit foreward, so he is exponated and visible for all. Then he shows what to do next: the retained reins as preparation for dismount. By the order "dismount" they stand on one stirrup waiting for the signal to execute the order. This signal must make the exposed trooper. So he extends his arm (not for the horses, this is not of interest for them, except the stable and hay) which means "look out" ,immediately follows the slap, the last signal of the order "dismount". Actual the trooper shall slap ideally on the leather of the saddle so it makes a smacking sound which also can be heard from those soldiers who cannot see the one ahead the line. Isn't this a pretty plausible explanation?
I really question why the police don’t control the crowds better? They seem to like standing around talking to each other? Why are they not on the sidewalk and some inside the court yard? Is that not part of their jobs.? People just seem to stand around hoping something will happen. Keep the crowd moving.

There is a Guards souvenir booth.. I thought royalty had more class than to sell coffee, mugs, and keychains tourists. Especially since the tourists have no respect for these Soldiers who are serving their Country … These Guards are protecting the crown jewels, royalty and aristocrats whom visit from all around the world . They don't protect "royalty" either, which is the Met Police's responsibility, and how any "aristocrats" protect themselves is entirely up to them.

Good for the King's Guard for yelling at the crowd to stand back. As soon as they did, the horse calmed down quite a bit. Those people were so noisy!!!😡

There are a lot of people who know nothing about horses, and have possibly never seen one in real life, so they have no idea how to behave around them. People calling the kid a brat, or rude when he was simply trying to avoid the horse biting him are the ones being a little ridiculous.

When the French schoolchildren arrived (accompanied by their very young teacher who obviously didn't know how to control them and anticipate the danger the children were in, standing so close to a very very agitated horse), i don't think it was the Ministry of Defense police officer who shouted at them to stand back. I didn't see any MOD officers coming to the box, until after the event. Judging by the voice and accent, i think it was Buska who shouted, re-inforcing what the trooper had said. The trooper also told them that the horse could kill them (but obviosuly, the children didn't understand). So Buska to the rescue, again😀😀😀 He always knows when it's high time to intervene from the side with clueless or disorganized groups like the French children were. That was one EXCELLENT re-inforcement, shouted out! The trooper on the horse is one of my favorite troopers. I've seen him before but mostly as a gateman or as a chitsman, rarely as a boxman. This time, he did one heck of a job, to calm that horse down for 35 minutes non-stop, counted on the watch!☺☺☺

Some TH-camrs get involved to deliberately provoke incidents - they're NOT appreciated by the guard, who are trying to get rid of them.
The horse's are so Precious and Adorable and I really don't like how the people really like to make the horses agitated I still think they need to have a police person or even a guard with the guards on the horses to keep the tourist in line

The parents of the Brat that let him run inside the box in back of the horse 1. Need their heads examined for letting the Brat do it. 2. Should be fined for letting him do it. 3. The brat could have been kicked, and would have been the parents fault, not the Guard or horses fault.

Can’t the powers that be help the guards with the idiotic disrespectful tourists and put signs/chain to keep them out of the arches? They shouldn’t have to keep an eye on that kind of behavior while they are on duty. I don’t care what country they are from. Some are definitely. Worse than others.
If a horse became unsettled then imagine it hemmed in by a chain? It seems to be edging towards permanent barriers but the front is a public right of way legally.. The Arch is private property..

Of course they're "still working", but their work at Horseguards is Public Duties. That's what the MoD, the Army, the Household Division, Household Cavalry, and HCMR all give as their role - Public Duties - and I doubt if they're all wrong.
Public Duties are also what I did for two weeks in every eight for my first two years in the military.
If you don't know what Public Duties are, and you clearly don't, you can find it detailed in the Strategic Defence Review, Future Soldier, or summarised in the Future Soldier Guide on Page 96.
"If someone were to try to attack the building or in any way pose a threat" it's the MoD Police's direct responsibility to deal with it - that's why they're there, equipped as they are, and why they've been there since 2015, and that's what they're equipped to do.
It is absolutely NOT why the King's Life Guard are there, and they're NOT equipped to deal with it in any way if attacked.
They're unarmed, their horses aren't trained in the same way police horses are, most of the troopers are comparatively novice riders, and they're wearing ceremonial armour that limits their movement and vision.
In the event of any attack or threat the ceremonial guard are simply a liability and they move to the stables, out of the way.
That's not knocking them or looking down on their job in any way, it's simply how the responsibilities are broken down for what I would have thought were very obvious reasons.
All due respect to your experience in "Intelligence and UK Security" at the checkout in Sainsbury's, but that isn't how it works.

Amazing horsemanship, I wonder is it a young horse? The crowds were upsetting him however the guard did an amazing job, being persistent making him circle and stand, I noticed the bit was off, of course he was fighting the bit to get his own way, but didn't get away with anything. Towards the end I noticed the curb chain hanging at one side, I wonder if they had to tighten it a bit because he's prone to acting up. Either way I really admire the guard being firm the whole time. Annoying to watch tourists still trying to get a photo with a horse that's cleary freaking out at them being in his face
I swear these tourist must have left any common sense they had at home when they left on vacation.

I had my own business for 40 years and nearly burned out just before Covid restrictions that closed tourism businesses in my area for the year, and part of the next. At that time I realized that EVERYONE dealing directly with people had the same problems. Once businesses could open again, I closed mine permanently and I have never been happier. People changed through the years and became more difficult to please every year.

Inside those uniforms there is a real live young man or woman. Arrogant tourist need to think about how those guards feel when their stupid behavior puts him/her/horse in danger of injury. Also, it takes a lot of self control to stay still and keep the horse happy when people act out or are

It's the bit in his mouth ,,keeps twisting on the right side ,,guard assistant came out fixed it and the horse twisted it again before the assistant left but he didn't notice !!!!

Where I live petting zoos are popular. I just wonder whenever the public sees an animal among the public that they think that's an invitation to touch them. Especially when adults encourage the child to touch the animal. Also, if you show animals at County or State Fairs and you are walking your animal from the barn to the show ring and back - you have to watch the public to make sure everyone is safe and your animal is safe. People without experience in being around animals can be problematic.
The toddler wants to go to the 1K horse. And the kid who runs into stall - really smart.

HOW LONG DO THE ROYAL GUARDS AND ROYAL HORSES WORK?
After the officer checks them at 4:00 p.m., everyone, whether they're on horseback or not, will be done for the day. Two guards on horses watch the entrance to Horse Guards on Whitehall from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. They switch out every hour.
WHY THEY SLAP THE HORSE?
The purpose of guards slapping their horses when dismounting is to ensure the horse is prepared for the change in weight distribution as the guard descends from the horse.
The first one on the neck is essential to tell the horse, "good job." The second slap is to inform the horse that there is an excessive displacement of weight on one side at dismount.
HORSES ON HOLIDAY IN THE UK
Following the conclusion of the Summer Ceremonial Season, these diligent military horses are respectfully sent to the LEICESTERSHIRE countryside for a well-deserved period of rest and recuperation. One may observe them taking a break on the beaches of Holkham in Norfolk, where they are free to enjoy themselves.
During their six-week vacation, the horses are free to roam the verdant fields, inhale the invigorating country air, and revel in the delight of mud baths. At the break of dawn, they are escorted to the square at Hyde Park Barracks, where horse-drawn carriages await to transport them beyond the city limits. Their meticulously trimmed coats are allowed to grow naturally, and their metal shoes are removed. It is a joyous occasion for these majestic creatures!

The second slap shall inform the horse about a displacement of weight? Sorry but that's a lovely romantic fairy-tale for tourists, in my opinion. Why? To this some questions first: do you believe that it would be possible to ride a horse, as we see it at horse guards, if the horses have to be warned about every displacement of weight during riding? Do we see the horses batting any eyelid when the troopers dismount? Why is only one horse warned, how do the others know the moment of dismount?
My answer: if a horse is as sensible about weight displacement, it is hardly to ride, because riding includes a permanent (less or more) weight displacement; one had to warn the horse the whole time while riding.
The trooper stands a few seconds on one stirrup before slapping; the horse would then be warned a f t e r the displacement - that makes no sense. Therefore the slapping must have another reason. So when I reflect a bit and querry me what a military unit makes function properly, I think of drill, orders and obedience, signals, signs, flags and gestures. An order must be given clearly so that it can be understood and executed correctly - by e v e r y soldier. In our case one trooper has to to ride a bit foreward, so he is exponated and visible for all. Then he shows what to do next: the retained reins as preparation for dismount. By the order "dismount" they stand on one stirrup waiting for the signal to execute the order. This signal must make the exposed trooper. So he extends his arm (not for the horses, this is not of interest for them, except the stable and hay) which means "look out" ,immediately follows the slap, the last signal of the order "dismount". Actual the trooper shall slap ideally on the leather of the saddle so it makes a smacking sound which also can be heard from those soldiers who cannot see the one ahead the line.

I really question why the police don’t control the crowds better? They seem to like standing around talking to each other? Why are they not on the sidewalk and some inside the court yard? I have taken care of people in nursing homes who got kicked by their own horse. They would never leave facility due to severe injury.
