    Dredd not calling him a rookie but a Judge when listing his murder as a crime is a sign of respect for the dead. Dredd in the comics would have done that very thing.

      Since there was a comic-book version of the Lawgiver that included that feature, they just had to use it for something. Once you make that choice, then shooting through something metal becomes your best use.

    Honestly both Dredd movies are great on their own. Even if this version ended up as "not serious" there was a nice blend of seriousness and comedic moments to make it memorable. Sly was the best person to take on this role when it came out. The same way Karl Urban's Dredd showed us a darker side of being a Judge, it left me wanting more.

      @@sunrisejackdaw1779 but you have to know that (a) in the dystopian future street punks don't have access to better kit, better ways to hide the kit, etc., and (b) bullets are heavy and bulky. If they're able to feed cheap home-made flechettes into a spacegun and (because of the smaller size) have many more rounds before needing a reload or running out, flechettes will be better than bullets. 2000AD is cramped, they need CQB (close quarter battle) weapons, not weapons with a range that exceeds most lines of sight.

      Hershey said they were shooting from the upper floors, but MegaBlocks are a kilometer tall. That's why they're called MEGA. Floor 40 isn't even halfway up. And the entry gates to them are wide enough for four lanes of traffic. Not giving the movie any props, since they're really more than 200m away, even on Floor 40 which is closer to 400m up. This movie really failed to nail the scale.
      Dredd is a superior film in every respect. Also, Karl Urban doesn't take off his helmet. Screw you for disrespecting the character, Sly.

    They literally did the same scene in Dredd 2012 where he reads off his crimes and the guy says "let me guess, life" and he blows his brains out and says "Death" and its still fucking awesome. If they made 5 more movies where they did the exact same thing it would never get old.

      That scene in Dredd 2012 did not go like that. The guy had taken a hostage and Dredd was negotiating with him to give up in exchange for a sentence of life in isocube, otherwise the mandatory sentence was death. The criminal balks because life in iso might as well be death.

      @@libertyprime1614 I guess that's why I said they don't loose energy as fast as firing level. There is a slight gravitational assist. Otherwise snipers wouldn't have to adjust for gravity when shooting down hill. But that's reality.
      However, in the movie, they did mention flechettes in which case in this fantasy sci fi movie movie meets reality world, the 'rounds' would loose energy MUCH faster because the rounds are so small. 200 meter effective range sounds ambitious considering how small the flechettes would be. But fuck it, we're making movies real, here.
      Instead, we'll just treat them like they were six inch long fin stabilized nails fired from rockets like used in Vietnam. Now those bastards had a much more effective range, and Dredd would be wet paste.
      It's a fucking dystopian science fiction comic book made into a bad Stallone movie. Live a little. It's movie magic.

    Man, I remember I got this movie on VHS as a Christmas present as a kid. I watched it like 50 times. You can objectively criticize it of course, but nostalgia trumps all. I love the film. Great music, great set design, great costumes, Rob Schneider was funny, etc. Not a faithful adaptation, but a fun movie nonetheless.

      I’ll admit rob Schneider was hella funny here. He’s hella out of place, but with wise placement and directing, I think he would of been a fine addition to the film. Nothing is wrong with comedic relief if it is done well.

But what made this so ironic is that Stallone is perfect for the role, he can easily portray and embody the character, with proper direction and script. The only time Judge Dredd is Judge Dredd is in the beginning of the film, then the rest of it is just Stallone action flick.

      Yes, to me this is dredd. The cockiness & the experience he showed. Its what makes him different from the other judge. He knows his stuff. The Karl urban dredd isnt menacing enough like this dredd. His voice is too soft and there's nothing that gives out the best judge vibe. Always pictured dredd as a hard ass marine kinda like voice. Yes, he stayed true by keeping the helmet, but I dont see the ruthlessness of dredd like in the comics.

      People didn't care as much about the nudity aspect in ancient times when these items of clothing were invented.

    Somewhere between this movie and the 2012 version is the perfect Dredd movie.

      Karl Urban was a better Dredd i think, but this movie was more memorable. I dunno about the comedy part, but it wasn't that bad.

    Man, I love the over-the-top cumbersome design of the motorcycle and the dystopian streets compared to the newer Judge Dredd. Tho I like the darker tone of the new one.

    You cant deny that this was a underrated movie. The only ones complaining are the fan boys who cried about him taking his helmet off.

    I think my favorite quote regarding this movie had to have come from Rob Schneider, where he said he knew that the movie was going to tank when he saw Stallone come out with the giant codpiece.
