The following is generic off of an app
Air layering is a propagation method used to create new plants from existing ones, particularly useful for bonsai trees like the Ficus Ginseng. Here's how to do air layering on a Ficus Ginseng bonsai tree:
    1. **Select a Healthy Branch**: Choose a healthy, flexible branch on the Ficus Ginseng tree that you want to propagate. Ideally, select a branch that is about the thickness of a pencil and has plenty of leaves.
    2. **Prepare the Branch**: About 6-12 inches below the tip of the branch, use a clean, sharp knife to make a shallow cut around the circumference of the branch. This cut should penetrate through the bark and into the cambium layer, but not into the heartwood.
    3. **Remove Bark**: Gently peel off the bark from the area where you made the cut, exposing the cambium layer underneath. Ensure that the exposed area is clean and free from debris.
    4. **Apply Rooting Hormone**: Optional, but you can apply a rooting hormone powder or gel to the exposed cambium layer to encourage root growth.
    5. **Wrap with Moist Substrate**: Take a handful of moist sphagnum moss or a similar rooting medium and wrap it around the exposed area of the branch. Make sure the moss covers the entire exposed area and extends a few inches beyond it.
    6. **Enclose with Plastic Wrap**: Wrap the moss-covered area with a sheet of clear plastic wrap, making sure it is tightly sealed around the branch above and below the moss. This will create a humid environment conducive to root formation.
    7. **Secure the Wrap**: Use twist ties or electrical tape to secure the plastic wrap in place, ensuring it does not come loose.
    8. **Wait for Roots to Form**: Place the branch in a warm, bright location away from direct sunlight. Check the moss periodically to ensure it remains moist but not waterlogged. Roots should start to form within a few weeks to a few months.
    9. **Check for Root Formation**: After a few weeks, carefully unwrap the plastic wrap and gently peel back the moss to check for root formation. Once you see a sufficient number of roots (several inches long), you can proceed to the next step.
    10. **Cut and Pot the New Plant**: Once roots have formed, use sterilized scissors or a knife to cut the branch just below the rooted area. Pot the newly rooted plant in a suitable bonsai pot filled with well-draining bonsai soil mix.
    11. **Care for the New Plant**: Place the newly potted plant in a location with bright, indirect light and keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Gradually acclimate the plant to its new environment, and continue to care for it as you would a mature Ficus Ginseng bonsai tree.
Air layering can be a rewarding way to propagate bonsai trees like the Ficus Ginseng, allowing you to create new plants with desirable characteristics. With patience and proper care, you can successfully propagate your bonsai tree through air layering.
Certainly! Here are some interesting facts about Ficus bonsai:
    1. **Versatile Species**: Ficus bonsai encompass a wide range of species within the Ficus genus, including Ficus retusa, Ficus microcarpa, and Ficus benjamina. Each species offers unique characteristics and growth habits, making them versatile choices for bonsai enthusiasts.
    2. **Tropical Origins**: Most Ficus species are native to tropical and subtropical regions around the world, such as Southeast Asia, Africa, and Australia. This tropical origin influences their preferred growing conditions, requiring warmth, humidity, and bright, indirect light.
    3. **Air Purification**: Ficus bonsai, like their larger counterparts, are known for their air-purifying properties. They can help remove toxins such as formaldehyde, benzene, and trichloroethylene from indoor environments, contributing to improved air quality.
    4. **Adaptability**: Ficus bonsai are adaptable plants that can thrive both indoors and outdoors, depending on the specific species and local climate conditions. They can tolerate a wide range of light levels and humidity levels, making them suitable for various environments.
    5. **Aerial Roots**: Some Ficus species, such as Ficus microcarpa and Ficus benghalensis, are known for their characteristic aerial roots. These roots grow from the branches and trunk of the tree, adding to the visual appeal of the bonsai and creating a sense of age and maturity.
    6. **Ficus Ginseng**: Ficus retusa, commonly known as Ficus Ginseng, is a popular choice for bonsai enthusiasts due to its unique swollen trunk and aerial root formation. It is often cultivated in a bonsai style known as "ginseng style," characterized by the distinctive trunk shape resembling the root of the ginseng plant.

A nice clear explanation of your thought process for these two shop trees. You could have just stuck that big chopped trunk straight in soil and it would have rooted but I understand the space issue. This should all work out fine. Cheers

I've got one of these large ficus Andy. Doing the same thing. I've done all my root work last year, this year I'll be doing the chop. On your tree I would have gone and done the chop lower down and left the massive trunk and not much else. Just started there. I'm ruthless 😂 good job 👍🏼

You know what I was thinking the same
But if you chop higher you can always cut more off, you can’t put it back on bro.
But yeah mate I totally agree with you. Can see it there too 👊👊
But I also have a pot in mind for it I will make one day. But got to wait for a bigger house and more room 😂😂

Maybe tree 2 the top will root for you? Might be a good experiment for you to try. Just take off the branches on the "L" and put on some rooting hormone and place into some good media and see. Nothing to lose and would be fun to try and do. Just a thought. I know you don't have room, but, who knows, it might surprise you. If not, nothing to lose. Tree 2 is cool.

Tree 1 into the video. I wonder if you can do a graft into one of those fat roots before the air layering takes place. That way you get an instant fat trunk toward the bottom. Say a third of the way up. Now that would be a nice experiment for you to do on a video. It would be interesting to see since I have not seen anyone do it. Any thoughts on doing this?
