We arrived at the First Union building and rode the elevator to the top floor just in time. He was tonight's key note speaker. I was a new member of the club, and was put to work in the Speakers Committee. Tonight the speaker was my responsibility. Before the meeting, he met with alumni, some high school prospects and their parents and coaches, and local movers and shakers. At the end of the meeting, after his key note speech, which was crazy entertaining, he took pictures and signed autographs, and exchanged information with coaches and prospects. His flight out wasn't a flight out. Early the next morning he had another alumni meeting him at the hotel, and together they had two days planned to travel across the state doing home visits with parents of prospects. I drove him to his hotel on the beach, and he asked if he could buy me a drink at the little bar inside the hotel. Of course, I said you betcha. Except for the bartender, the only patrons were him and I. He asked the bartender if she could switch the TV to the Monday Night NFL game . The bartender had no idea who my friend was. To be honest, if your life was blind to college and pro football, there would be no reason to recognize him. Aside from being tall, being athletic looking, dressing respectable, he does kinda blend in. Watching that game with him changed how I watched football forever.
