Finally got around to setting up my own Mini vMac setup with this as a guide. Downloads for the system images sadly are down, but I was able to at least get system 6 up and running. Time for some old games!
I prefer the later era of games, as in the powermac era/dos era. its cool to have this option though as maintaining vintage macs seems an awful lot of trouble.
I was wondering if I'd be able to use this setup to play something from the later 90s, namely Pathways into Darkness. I'm having a lot of trouble setting it up with Basilisk
Unfortunately not, this version of Mini vMac doesn't support color. For Pathways I would use Basilisk II with System 7.5.5. I have tested it and it seems to be playable.
Not exactly sure what part you're stuck on but dropping the disk image on the window is just like inserting a disk into the computer. You can have it auto-mount your disk image by keeping it in the same folder as Mini vMac and titling your image "disk1.dsk".
ive been working on emulating a mac se for 3 hours on vmac mini, vmac ii mini, sheepshaver, basilik ii and even retroarch just somebody give me the links to a working rom,2 dsk files, and a working iso file for mac se and mac plus
Okay why is creepy castle not unstuffing? it is a 1.3 MB .sit stuffit file. but everything under 1 meg works perfectly. what i mean it crashes instantly
@@seanwilkinson7397 I checked it out and works with stuffit 5 but didn't work in stuffit 4. If you can't get it I can link you to a .dsk image for Mini vMac
@@insanelygruz I think you should do a little tutorial, because or I'll be very stupid but I can't do it, could you correct me where I'm wrong? The first thing I do is import the .sit file with importfl then when it is already in the mac I open the stuffit expander to look for the .sit file but it does not show it in the menu or in any folder to extract it, you know what I'm doing wrong? (I hope I don't bother you, it's not my intention, I just don't understand what to do) thanks :)
@@oscarblanco2763 It could possibly be that it isn't compatible with Stuffit Expander version 4, and you'll need version 5. (A lot of software is uploaded like this incorrectly.) Version 5 won't run on Mini vMac, so you might try to set up the Basilisk II emulator and get a copy of Stuffit 5.5. It will probably recognize your file.
.sit is a stuffit file - so you have to unstuff it and then copy it to a .dsk image that you already have. As far as I know you can't just convert a .sit to a .dsk file.
Welcome to the new channel! 👍 Make sure to subscribe for more!
I know I'm kinda randomly asking but do anybody know of a good site to stream new series online ?
Can you have the link for download the games?
Hey I need your help and I'm willing to pay cash. I need a quote.
Excellent explainer! Excited for the dedicated Mac channel !
I've set up all three. I've also set up shapeshifter, a Mac emulator running inside WinUAE, an Amiga emulator.
i never commend ever but i've been following you for quite the while - sooo thanks for sticking around man :)
Thank you!

Just used this guide again today... thank you, Gruz!

Just what I needed, thanks!
Best explanations ever! Thanks!
Now we need to write some new Mac 68K games for old Macs using THINK C 5.
I actually run mini vMac on a power pc g4! I could try to run vMac on so 9, it would be a really silly and fun thing to do.
4:40 What website is this? The top of your screen is cut off and the link in the video description is dead.
Can you do one for Basilisk, Sheepshaver, or a GS emu?
10:56 you're welcome
what is the earliest ppc mac to play 68k b/w games via miniv mac?
Great Video. T'was very helpful.
Can you do this on Linux Mint?
I've got a .sit file imported but I'm not exactly what sure to do next.
hello are these steps similar if i was trying to do all this on a imac g3 running os 8.6?
What was the game being played at 2:12? I could swear I played it!

So you must drag the blank disk image you put on the desktop to the mini vmac. Correct?
Every time you start the emulator, I meant to say.

But is there any way I can do this on my 3ds the same
I dragged the renamed .dsk to the vmac emu and I just get a X? what am i doing wrong?

can you fill the screen in fullscreen using this emulator?
You can go into Mini vmac's config file and switch it

I can't start games in .sit format only in dsk format do you know what is the problem or if I can fix it?
.sit is like a .zip file, it's compressed and you need to use stuffit to decompress it.

I'm starting to realise Basilisk II is much easier to use. VMac is too fussy about rom types
А как это на телефон
Aaaaaand it still doesn't work. I'm starting to hate Macintosh with a passion. How can it be so stupidly complex to launch a stupid game??
