He is buried close to my grandparents so when I was there recently I placed a flower on his grave, and thanked him for being the pioneer and king of Aussie rock and roll
Fascinating to see this. Well done for presenting it again. You get the feeling that they were rushing their sets...probably because there were so many acts on ths same bill. And as for those tiny amps....you would have had to have been in the first row to hear anything 😂
Thank you for the nice words. Yes the amps seem to be a surprisingly popular point of interest. It's why I think this movie has wide appeal. Its an expose' of the many facets of living in the 50s. Raw, rough and ready.
Congratulations, Mark! There is so much to savour in this short clip: The youthful Delltones, with Noel as lead; the sheer joy on the Dee Jays' faces and the exuberance of JO'K. One thought: Was the stage not revolving because of the filming? Looking forward to see more!
Thank you Peter. Yes its full of energy this song, including that sax solo. It has a lot going on. I’ll take a stadium audience over a live tv audience any day. It lifts everyone. The reason why it’s not revolving is that it was actually filmed on a different day to the other sets in the show. For this set they had less camera’s, so I suspect they wanted it to stay stationary for maximum coverage
Mark - I hope this this RARE film clip gets a big response for you.Keep up the hard work. State Song of Florida, as revised in 2008: Way down upon the Suwannee River, Far, far away, There's where my heart is turning ever, There's where the old folks stay. All up and down the whole creation, Sadly I roam, Still longing for my childhood station, And for the old folks at home. Chorus All the world is sad and dreary Everywhere I roam. O dear ones, how my heart grows weary, Far from the old folks at home. 2nd verse All ‘round the little farm I wander’d, When I was young; Then many happy days I squander’d, Many the songs I sung. Still sadly to my memory rushes, No matter where I rove. When will I see the bees a humming, All ‘round the comb? When shall I hear the banjo strumming, Down in my good old home.

i dont this was any kind of documentry it was just a aussie rock n roll feature film,it was supposed to feature american singer fabian but due to fabian been under contract in hollywood the fabian footage was cut from the film.
The original film featured ALL the Australian groups and individuals which supported Fabian at the stadium. Filmed in 35mm by Movietone News and produced by the late Lee Robinson. Premiered at the Capitol Theatre as a B grade support running one hour. Despite numerous requests over decades of time Lee Robinson refused to release the print.
The event was filmed by Lee Robinson's company Southern International, not Movietone. It runs for 80 minutes, not 60 minutes, and that is with some Fabian footage removed. Lee Robinson lost his copy in the 1970s, so releasing his copy since then wouldn't have been possible. The filmed premiered in Newcastle on the 30th of October 1959, not the Capitol Theatre, and was never billed as a B grade support in the early stages of distribution. In particular, the film was well received in New Zealand.
@Jh Harding and @Mark1: Was Fabian all THAT big in Australia that he would headline a stadium show? What about his Philly ‘bros’, Frankie Avalon and Bobby Rydell-were they also big Down Under and if so did they ever tour together? Here in the U.S. Fabian was def. the least successful of the trio.
no Movietone News had nothing to do with this film,it was produced by lee robinsons company and he has never refused to release this film ever as he lost his only copy decades ago and no one else had any existing copys,no copys were ever given to the artists or anything and kerridge odeon in NZ disposed of the copy they had decades ago also.
@@jefferygoodman9928 Hi Jeffrey, the Australian audiences were quite excited to see Fabian. He was very well received at the shows, mobbed at the airport, etc. Australia at that stage hadn't seen many performers with movie star looks enter our shores.
