- Gilbert Arenas came through for his first-ever VladTV interview, where he shared his life story, including how he got into basketball and later being recruited to the University of Arizona. While at Arizona, Gilbert spoke about playing in the national championship game, and later leaving college to enter the NBA draft. Despite having strong considerations in the first round, Arenas was the 31st overall pick by the Golden State Warriors. Gilbert went on to speak more about his NBA career, including playing against LeBron and Kobe, playing in All-Star games, and gambling in the NBA. Elsewhere, Arenas spoke about his ex, Laura Govan, his assistant stealing $2.1 million from him, being involved in the Matt Barnes/Derek Fisher incident, and winning $300,000 in the lottery. He had a great point that you don't get to see who folds under pressure who's good in game or just drill work. That's so accurate like I've seen dudes be unstoppable in drills and can't hit a open layup in a game 🤷🏻♂️ some people can be unbelievable with no pressure or just pressure of being watched while running drills but can't handle a crowd in a game it's so hard to say what or how someone will perform "under the lights" as they say
The messed up part is you don't even know the crowd is there if you're actually IN the game and not daydreaming.
So, to have the crowd affect someone that bad is crazy. Any time the spotlight was on me, I always drowned the crowd out and never even knew they were there. I'm guessing thats how most of the great athletes experience it, also.
When you're in the zone, can't nothing break that concentration. No amount of cheering or screaming can penetrate. It's literally like they're not even there.
Crazy but true!!! I never understood why I would be so good in a game and decent on drills. I would hit crazy shots in game and take a while to hit them in a drill or not shot as well in drills. Only understood it when I got older that I took the pressure well and didn’t fold and I was more of a game person. Still hard to understand till this day but I guess it’s a legit thing

Man this was a pleasant surprise. Not that I really expected Gil to be boring or uneducated, but he is very well spoken and naturally charming and funny. A dangerous combo even to his detriment in the past unfortunately.
P.S really stand up on how he spoke to and about homeboy with the gun situation and how he currently still talks to home boy. 99% of All star caliber players would no way still associate with him after his homeboys more serious troubles/allegations.
