I really can't understand why in hell people would want to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on great seats at a potentially once-in-a-lifetime concert just to sit there and talk throughout the whole damn thing. Surely you talk plenty everywhere else and want to give all your attention to the people on stage? At the concerts I've gone to, I only talked in between songs, and even then barely said anything.

I was in Nashville at a national gathering with wonderful people doing incredible work for one of the most devastating diseases in the world; we were in a large tent and they had hired incredible blues-jazz talent but I could barely hear three continuous notes over the cacophony of voices trying to talk over them. It drove me nuts. I, too, found it to be incredibly rude. But that is the world we have created somehow. Peace unto you, my friend.

One of the best shows I've ever seen was when Tori Amos played the Kimmel center in Philadelphia which is the hall where the Philadelphia Orchestra plays. She's amazing and there was something about the venue that had people being more polite. Or maybe it was that her fans were 10 years older than the last time I'd seen her.
