The terminals are reversed on the Impala. Standard batteries the positive terminal is on the left the negative on the right. Autozone cross referenced a battery for me that was wrong. Told me just to stretch the cables over to the other side.... Yea you can see that will not work here. You have to get the reversed pole battery.

Thanks so much for this, saved me quite a bit of time if i were to have to poke around and figure it out on my own. Used an H6 Platimun Ever Start from Walmart in my 2016 LTZ. Had the same issues on mine as far as the power steering not activating on start up once, dash info display not turn on but most of the time the blind spot detectors woudn't engage on start up but it was all due to a weak dieing battery. With the new battery in it starts up strong like it should with all systems nominal. Only other step not mentioned but standard across pretty much all batterys is fastener that bolts down on the battery lip to secure it near the Negative/Black terminal. On mine there was also a strapped ring that went around the Positive/Red terminal also used to secure it. It slips over the top once you got the harness off. Also once you have the new batt installed be sure to start it manual from the inside and not the remote start. The computer will tell you to lower and raise the driver window the re-enable remote start functionality. Cheers all!

Thanks - video was a great help. Note the positive terminal is on the right - some battery retailers get that wrong for this model (including the one I went to and had to make a return) and the terminals are recessed (see how they are "below" the top of the battery). I had trouble prying the housing covering the positive terminal off from the clip at the bottom with a screwdriver; there is a rectangular slot along the top edge where you can insert a screwdriver and apply outward prying pressure and it pops the side off nicely.
Also nice is none of the radio presets or electrical settings are lost with a removed battery (at least on the 2014 2LTZ - must be backup battery source somewhere) so no need to worry about that.

Thanks for the video because Advanced Auto had me about to pay $300 for a battery but I was able to get one for $190.
Coming to this video first would of helped before he tried but my brother attempted to do it himself but the nuts you took off with the 13 mm; the piece under the first one broke completely off. Any suggestions on what he has to do next? We have no idea what the piece is called.
This is not correct for a 2014 impala I removed all that and the battery won't budge

There is another nut that you need / are better off loosening. It can be seen at 2:38 in the video. It's down in front of the battery.
Question what's the other cable on the negative side go to? The one on the other bolt on negative can't find anything

Im surprised you lost electric power steering because of a battery. Theres no telling what can happen woth these new cars. My entire instrument cluster died and i lost power steering when one of my speed sensors went bad. Easy fix though
I know, was surprised it affected the car so bad, when it happened I was on vacation about 150 miles way from home, was an interesting ride home to say the lease. I've driven older cars with out power string and believe this was a lot worst. The string wheel felt heavy even at high speeds which was surprising to me.

Same here Bro, I open the hood took a look and closed it back, but when the dealer wanted to rip me off so I had to figure it out. Glad I did, never had so many hits on a video. But for real, I looked for about 2 weeks and found nothing out there to school me on this. In the end, the systems started failing, I had no power steering for 2 days. It was crazy.
Thanks for the video upload ( certainly different than any battery replacement I have ever dealt with ). The battery in my 2016 Impala 'crapped out this past weekend. I've had the car less than 3 years. I'd be interested to know if GM has an explanation as to why the Impala' are having an issue. Thanks again for the video.

Well, as far as system computer reset, I didn’t have any issues didn’t even lose my presets on my radio...lol
Need help, I replaced the battery just as above, went to start the car, which started fine but here's the issue. No head lights, no turn signals, no radio,dashboard, or inside lights, key is now stuck in the ignition AND I cant shift out of park. The brake lights do work though. Someone please HELP!
Try turning the steering wheel in the direction that the tires are turned to then try to remove the key

I used Wal-Mart's EverStart Maxx Lead Acid Automotive Battery, Group H6 for this job. Runs around 119.00 3 year full exchange warranty and 5 years prorated.

I got a 2018 and it all works the same .... Got my car serviced & they didn't even look to see my battery had corrosion build up. I never like AC Delco batteries ... I should have snatched that out when I got the car HA

So it's safe to assume the battery life in a 2014 to 2016 chey impala is 5 to 7 years
Well mine was a 2016 so 2 years on mine but those AC Delco batteries don't last that long anyways that's why they normally come with 12 month warranty. At least with those Walmart batteries you get 3 year piece of mind and 2 additional prorated years.
@@chochi73 Walmart was out of stock but luckily I haven't had a problem with my car starting in the last few days, I'm thinking maybe I left a light on or something but I haven't had a problem since that day after I got a jump start. Let's hope it lasts another year or more and if not I know how to change it. Thanks again 🤞

There's 5 bolts! The 2 terminals, and 3 of the 13mm. The mounting bolt on the BOTTOM NEGATIVE SIDE. THE PLASTIC PEICE ON BOTTOM AS WELL. SLIDE THAT PLASTIC PIECE UP AND REMOVE OR THE BATTERY WON'T MOVE.

Recently Replaced the battery because it died 3 months ago now its the alternator need replacing which thats what the dealer told me. 2017 impala LS.

Yes, disconnect negative cable first and you only have to disconnect the second black cable to get the battery out, just changed mine on a 2016 Impala LTZ , it was very easy . Thanks for making the video tho.
I have a 2014 Impala LTZ V6, the OEM battery was AC Delco Catalog # 2372 / 48PS 565 CCA size H6. This battery tested at 88% or so good a few months ago. Today it was 73%. If you have a 2014 and the original battery, it may be getting near the end of its life since its 6+ years old now. I replaced it with AutoCraft Platinum AGM Battery, Group Size H6, 760 CCA which fit perfectly. Thanks for this video! Also, note there is a sliding piece of plastic on the closest side of the battery box that you can slide up and out if you have trouble removing or inserting the battery. I didn't need it and discovered it after I was done.

Don’t forget about the fact that they stick drill these batteries to the frame that holds the battery. Smh You will all have to undo the bolt holding down the battery. Some batteries are strapped, some bolted, some neither. But Impalas are bolted to the engine bay. Located in front of the battery on your side(if you’re standing in front of the vehicle)

So I used a H6 as well but the lights and inside dash comes on (which wasn’t before I replaced the battery) & now it still will not turn over .

I was told at O’Reillys that it was a mechanic only install since it’s possible to blow out a fuse messing with that stuff. Is that right or is that just a thing they try to screw you over with?

Better to remove the negative post first to prevent a short circuit with the wrench. Then tighten the positive first on installation.

I bought a new battery for my Impala Premier and have to pick it up tomorrow. When I placed my order it said this battery needs to be installed by a professional and when I went to Advance Auto who I bought the battery from they said I would have to take it to a mechanic because although they do install batteries at Advance Auto the Impala is different and needs a professional. I mean what do you think should I still try to do it or just take it to someone? But looking at your video I’m like damn that looks easy
Had someone else with the same situation, they were told only professionals could do the job, they followed the video and got it done no issues. It's been over a year since I've installed the battery so I can tell you I have no issues that would tell me someone else could have done it better.

Did your car also say remote not detected? I have the 2015 and will not start
The thing with these Chevy's is when the battery starts to go bad the system adapts by turning off certain functions, in my case, it was the pwr steering than the A/C. I've seen examples of cars not starting (and the issue wasn't related to the battery) and some people disconnected their batteries for about 20 mins then reconnected it and the car would start again. I guess it was like a system reset.
