Can I just say I really like the idea of the IT field being pitched to a new audience? This is refreshing and will likely reault in new, aesthetic-driven designs being viable.

As a C level at a cloud computing company I couldn't agree more, it's utterly impossible to find female infrastructure engineers. When we go to software conferences there still are a few woman. But once its infrastructure only the woman basically disappear from existance. If have been at events for networking equipment with hundreds of people and only 2 bar staff where female. It's a serious problem.

@@malloot9224 Calling a natural, biological and psychological difference betwen woman's and man's psyche "a serious problem" is a problem itself. Why would you need, expect, or would want more woman in a field that's basically appealing to man? Do you think woman would need more men in kindergartens, or at their hand woven communities? @axelkusanagi4139 text about aesthetics is also cringe. Hardware has to work not look. And will all due respect, as fun as this video can be for informational purposes, as an IT professional myself I don't see any need or purpose in having my own full blown network infrastructure at house, or network bandwith being bigger than 30Mbps. It's nothing more than consumptionism. People just don't know how to spend their money. And yet they are terribly concerned about Planet Earth while at least every second year they do an upgrade. xD A nice channel, marketed with pretty face that earns her money by showing IT gear.

@@malloot9224 as a woman who loves infrastructure and messes with servers as a hobby it's also refreshing to see more of us in the field, I also love making stuff nice to look as especially if they're going to be staying in my home permanently and I've never really seen any videos about this subject where the cute gamery aesthetics where one of the main focuses

my PC sits on a 12U rack on wheels. You can use rack units for lots of things like..
-audio interface if you intend to use real microphones for chat/streaming
-Power strips/power conditionner, to avoid PFC buzzing on your power supply and have surge protection and clean ground
-network switches, even if it's not a fancy router.. it's sooooo much more handy when you use a laptop regularely and still want fast network or don't want to use wifi
-friggin drawers.. your junk deserves rack space, and it's super heavy duty..

After years of dealing with cage nuts: Grab a PCI card slot cover from an old PC case. Push the far tab of the cage nut in with your fingers so the nut is at an angle, then just pop the other tab in using the slot cover. Saves all the skin on your fingers. To remove the nut, use the slot cover to push the tab in (from the nut side of the cage), and catch the nut as it pops out.

I'm going to run a few Game servers for my organization out of my house and was looking at different projects people were doing to get an idea of how I wanted it to look. I hate saying it, but in my years of telecommunications and managing a data center team, I'm happy to see more women getting into this. Girls typically do not go for networking and when they do they aren't that great at it. They're more standoffish with the fact that they are girls rather than taking pride in their knowledge. You on the other hand are the opposite, very happy to run into this and I think I will be doing a similar build. Excellent work! Finally, someone who knows what they are talking about and takes pride in their work!

I've used "Aluminum" spray paint to match things. It's amazing how easy it is and little time it takes. As with most surfaces, scuff with 220-320grit sandpaper, clean with some brake cleaner, paint thinner etc and spray 2-3 light coats. Give a day or 2 to dry and admire how nice it all matches

I'm clearly more innocent than you lot of reprobates, I've only just noticed the title... 😊
Another consistently excellent video Lauren. If companies actually hired you for their product adverts, then I wouldn't be clicking "skip ad" as a twitch reflex. SCDkey is literally the only advert I've watched all the way through since your last video came out.

Such a pleasant deviation from black hardware & blue LEDs too. I mean does network hardware really have to look like it was designed for the batcave.
Have you looked into doing DNS over TLS with your Pi Hole?

The reason the screws were so hard to put in, is because of the powder coating itself. It is in the threading and you have to force the screw through it to get it to fit since the coating does make it smaller. Best thing to do with that situation would be to use a tap and die set, or similar, to clean the threading before putting in the screws.

Hah, my home network is at the bottom of the linen closet. It's CAT6 wired, connects to my NAS (an Athlon Hammer from about 2002, mobo recapped, 750w silver PS, a million fans to keep that POS cool ) and a UPS, which was beeping today. Not much to look at, but it works well.
Next step is to get the 10 Mbps switch connected to my Turbo XT, 386, 486, and P233 MMX.
Thanks for the kick in the ass to get it done :D
