I don’t think anyone would have thought of “handsome squidward,” tic toc filters, or ring lighting until you brought it up, lol. I’ve still got a few minutes left of the video so I’m interested on what the final piece will look like.
My Two Year Old (coming in at the end of the video): "Oh no! It's sad. We can make it better." But seriously, I LOVE the somber mood this has. While watching you paint the eyes, I had some flashbacks to how I felt while reading To Kill A Mockingbird and about Boo Radley. Gosh, it has been ages since I read that book, but the feeling it evoked for me came back so strongly. Anyways, random rambling over. Beautiful art! Have a lovely day :D
I love working with limited palettes. It’s a so enjoyable just playing with color mixing and figuring what colors can be mixed. Then super rewarding using that knowledge in a finished piece.
I love your videos, they give a sense of tranquility and they inspire me to grab my own paints. I get much the same feelings as watching Bob Ross; the paintings evolve organically and every now and then you do a bold move which initially stresses me out but I know there is a purpose and it will be a beautiful addition.
Still so glad I came across your channel, you've had such a big impact on the way I approach my own art. Love watching your process from painting to painting, I seem to like each even more than the last, your grip on color theory and layering is a huge inspiration!
I am absolutely in love with this painting! I love Greek Mythology, and this is very much giving me Hades vibes. And the ring in the background makes it look like a divine halo.
I am in love with this painting! So good! Love to see the return of you limited pallet painting, they first brought me to your channel and I have been hooked from then! I really need to try this palette myself :)
I never would have thought that this was done using the Zorn palette because of how cool the overall painting is, but I guess it makes perfect sense. I'm just so used to seeing all these warm, aged looking paintings using Zorns palette. This is refreshing.
I love this pallet. With doing color theory and working with how colors work together and just look. This is such a beautiful pallet to try. I'm glad I got to see you use it like this. Your always so inspiring ❤ thank you.
Totally enjoying painting vicariously through this right now🥰. Because for some reason I haven't been able to paint for months. I don't know why. Drawing works but as soon as I sit down with paints or to sketch out a painting... nothing. I'm hoping to get back to the feeling you had painting this again soon. Thank you!❤
Beautiful! I hadn't noticed it til you mentioned tiktok, but this reminds me so much of the trend where people turn the lights off, put their ring light behind their backs, and play the "I love you for infinity" song. I always thought the lighting in those tiktoks would make for great art! And here is the proof!
Your paintings stir so much emotion in me its genuinely incredible, I adore this painting and am so infatuated by the variation in tones! You’re such an inspiration to my art thank you for posting your creations online
I was immediately captivated by this piece the moment that I saw the thumbnail, and that captivation just continued to grow as I watched the process ❤️
your videos always help me when I'm anxious, and I just finished one of my finals so this could not have come at a better time. thank you for posting your art :)
Absolutely beautiful creation! Loved your process of this beautiful painting great technique used! Enjoyed watching you paint 🎨 loved it thank you for this beautiful sharing!
This painting looks so good! There's something about the face/expression that's really cool to me, but I can't pinpoint what it is. Might have to do with the eyes, though. Also, I hadn't heard of the Zorn Palette before this, but now I might just have to look into it...
I love your art it really inspires me to go out of my comfort zone and experiment. I wish I could support you more but I’m a broke College students, but really love all your content and high quality videos some day I hope to be able to buy some of your art. Good luck with the new neighbors and keep up the great work best of wishes to you and your family.
Bold & brash, Arlee! (LOL the handsome squidward thing, though.) And also love the glowing effect with the white gouache in here. This whole piece is beautiful! I think the lighting looks more like sparks or electricity instead of a ring light. It's awesome. :D
I made the Zorn palette too but with Paul Ruben's watercolors (I don't have black in the other watercolors lol) and removed the white. It was a fun challenge.
"Handsome Squidward was not the vibe for today." Lol! I think it looked fine, but I get it! The pale skin and dark eyes make me think more of Daniel from the comic Sandman by Neil Gaiman. I think it's gorgeous.
This painting is absolutely gorgeous! It's too late in the night now in my country to write down a proper constructive comment, but the ring of light behind is beautiful and so well executed, it depicted in my head sensation of a strong wind during an eclipse!
So sad that I missed out on buying the original painting. Bummer for me but wonderful for you and the lucky person who snagged it! Question: Would you by any chance happen to have scanned or taken a picture of the original sketch that you started with? I think that would also be an interesting print. I just love this piece at its different stages. 💕💕💕💕
The Ivory black he used, which is no longer available, had a distintive blue undertone, which he actually used to create blues, when mixed with white! His Ivory Black served as a black and a blue! Today we can use some sort of Paynes Gray, one thats very dark in its mass tone to substitute his Ivory Black. Cause OUR Ivory Black is not HIS Ivory Black.
I’m late to the party here, but this is a super demo…I have difficulty using a lot of colors, the more colors the bigger mess. This might be the perfect solution for me…..or, maybe I’ll make a mess anyway. Thanks for this presentation
I've used the Zorn palette for two paintings but I chose Payne's Grey (I guess that's cheating?) I managed to get full purple and green out of it. Two livestock market scenes.
Am I the only one who sees a butterfly in the mixing palatte at 12:20 ? Lmfaooo. Also, I do get what you mean when going from the jelly gouache to tubes. It feels SO weird lol. Over the summer I worked a lot with the jelly gouache and then when I went over to my tubes again recently it just turned out terribly lmao. Kind of like what happens when you do gouache for a while and then do watercolors or vice versa.
I’ve heard so many times to not use white or black when painting (especially with watercolour) but I always keep my moto in mind… “You can pry my white and black paint out of my cold dead hands!” 🤣
The advice I've heard for white and black has always been that 1. White is, by definition, opaque. You loose the transparency that is characteristic for watercolours by using white pigments and it makes mixing a lot harder. So you should not start out and definitely not get in the habit of using white to create light colours. Obviously that doesn't mean there aren't situations where you want to use white specifically. It's just the exception to the rule, not the rule. And similarly 2. Blacks, like ivory black, should not be your go-to solution to create dark colours because they are generally (intentionally) very flat, and will make your painting look flat and dull compared to mixing your own dark (or black) colours from the colours you are already using. Again, doesn't mean you should never use it, just that it shouldn't be your go to standard and you should know why you are choosing to use that. The only context where artists give that advice is for people starting out with watercolours because they are both really bad habits that it's super easy to get into especially coming from opaque media like acrylics.
Starving artist here. I was wondering if maybe you could donate some art supplies even if you have used them or stuff you don't use? I love your art and you're videos are soothing and inspirational. ❤️
I hope you enjoy this limited palette adventure!

I was thinking of a halo, like a slightly eerie saint! Still am tbh 😊

So was I
Ditto, I saw something supernatural/ spiritual

These videos are some of my favorites of yours, it's so amazing to see the variety of colors you make out of 3 colors
Your process is so unique and cool to watch! Second video of yours I’ve ever seen and I am hooked, this makes me want to go bust out my gouache!!

Color theory is so interesting, like it’s crazy just how blue the black/white mixed look in this palette!

Ive been watching your videos alot lately, they're incredibly relaxing and I love working with them in the background ❤

Omg I’ve been wanting to try the zorn palette for so long!!
The glowing ring brought a halo to mind over beauty culture.

Very interesting palette! I want to experiment with it too.
Also my cat fell asleep to your voice and song choice. Great video
even the mixing pallets is pretty
this makes me really wanna try this paletteeee :0
handsome squidward...... that being said though the black and white thing is a great idea
You are a great artist. Amazing art as always 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Woooo hyped for this! 🙌

You didn't use blue paint, and you still made a blue painting. Delightful

The ring gave me some sci-fi fantasy vibes. I'm playing Halo again so I have a space brain.
"Giving a little bit too much handsome Squirdward" I'm rolling omg
the eyes are so dark they almost remind me of the button eyes from Coraline and I love it
I love it. Beautiful
13:02... It's like if the eyes were going to blink! I felt like lost in his eyes...

this piece is beautiful was excited to watch it today. help me realize whats wrong with one of my pieces

Omg soo amazing
kinda looks like Social Repose haha. I just love how you know what to do with those brush strokes, I am jelly
oh no! wonderful painting, I just cant get handsome suave squidward out of my head lol
I assumed the glowing ring was more like the way halos are done in art?

This painting reminds me of the uncle in adams family
Basically the german flag is the "anger palette".....interesting.
Zorn like the German word for anger/wrath?
This is absolutely gorgeous!! 💖💖💖
I’m glad to know my brain isn’t the only one feeling infiltrated by social media Atm 😂
Merci a lot 😊
I am confused where the green came from. This painting is so colorful even though you only used 4 colors.
I never watched SpongeBob so I had to find the episode that created handsome Squidward. Hilarious! /

Gouache is such flat colour it is the graphic designers dream.. I personally hate gouache for free aetwork.
