  • Up on deck today we have a SICK 11 second stick shift 1966 Pontiac GTO drag racing at National Trail Raceway during the Wednesday Night Street Drags 2020.
    Become the meme and prevent stuck bolts: amzn.to/3fbRqLb
    The Wednesday Night Drags is an open test and tune event hosted by National trail raceway on Wednesday evenings around 5pm and lasting until 9pm. It is a good time for racers of all types and experience levels to test their skills on the tree and see what their cars can do going down the strip. On a typical night you can find everything from someone practicing bracket racing with an old kia, all the way to NHRA Top Dragsters and no time grudge cars making test hits.
    National Trail Raceway is an NHRA quarter mile drag strip located between Hebron and Kirkersville, Ohio, USA, off of U.S. Route 40. The track is located about 30 minutes east of Columbus, Ohio. It was first opened in 1964 and was the fifth largest facility at the time. It is also a PDRA member track that runs 1/8th mile outlaw door-slammer drag races.

    I'm mesmerized by this video. The violent take off, the fact a car that big can go so fast instantaneously, the grumble and then roar of the engine. I can watch this car take off all day.

      Power shifting a difficult to replace aluminum case Muncie 4 speed(most likely a wide ratio box at that) isn't the brightest idea if you aren't interested in having a few extras and getting one worked on every now and then. The factory clutch linkage is hardly stiff enough to rely on as well. All the top 4 speed racers that were power shifting had modified transmissions, clutch linkage, shifter and had spent lots of time experimenting with just the right clutch.

      I have to agree. I had a solid (no vinyl top) gold/gold '66, single 4bbl, 2 speed auto (boring). She was soooo pretty. Her prime accceleration was from about 35-40 to about 70, when she shifted into 2nd. That Powerglide-type 2 speed made her drink gas like crazy, but passing people from about 35 mph was a blast when she downshifted into 1st gear, tho. It would sometimes "scratch" (squeek the tires) when making the gear change on full throttle!

    Sweet car, looks like it bogs down outa the hole consistently as it bites... losing a little et there... can it handle a little more gear to keep the revs up? What's it twisting at the finish line now?

    • @davecarlson5624
      @davecarlson5624 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My guess to all these comments having a 1966 GTO myself is that he’s running a 5/6 speed transmission in it hence the first quick shift. Also, why he’s granny shifting as the kind of power he’s running is assuming right at the line of maximum on a 5 speed transmission and will scatter it if he doesn’t shift it correctly.
      Or he just has a really nice car and the extra half second he could get out of isn’t worth it to him.
