Thank you: Great Great Grand Mother, “Eliza”. In learning of your courage, the great stress one endured from the Trail of Tears etc. for it is you, that I’m hear today it was because of your sacrifice and bravery coming west arriving here, on Oregonian land! … I do humbly pray to meet you some day soon! … Your Great Great Grand Son loves you !!!

"But why should I mourn at the untimely fate of my people. Tribe follows tribe, and nation follows nation. Like the waves of the sea. It is the order of Nature and regret is useless. Your time of decay maybe distant but it will come..... We maybe brothers after all".

The sacred within all of life is something, those of us engulfed in western culture, have failed miserably to embrace.

This breaks my heart. I'm white, but I've grown up with/around natives, and around/in reservations. I feel like it's sort of an adopted culture of mine... On behalf of all of my ancesters, I'm deeply sorry for what we did to your people. Words can't even say

While this may not be a verbatim representation of the original speech, as none exists, this version was, according to SUNY, cobbled together from notes taken from the actual speech. It's the closest thing we have to what was actually said. It was an attempt to impart Chief Seattle's meaning. It's worthy, even if it's not completely and irrefutably the exact words uttered by Chief Seattle.

it's not even about the idea of race, really. it is about all of us and all of life.

Dont feel bad, the trickster got to the white man first. In the old world, north, south, east and west,, all were blessed, and the best. His story hides cross-culture. The trickster is a culture-vulture.
They can destroy cultures, they can't destroy hearts.
Wish for the fifth world, create what you can. Love the natural world, and its natural people.
The red man stayed strong to his culture for all of us, so we know the wisdom within can still exist in culture too.

Powerful, graceful and heartfelt words of the Chief of a once mighty and fruitful nation . . . wow! Our generation should feel moved to honor the spirit of Mother Earth and the Great Father Spirit of the Sky who made us all brothers and sisters of these Holy people that were exterminated without mercy and whose lands we still rape and and plunder.

There are moments of crossed paths in everyones life.. It's been a while since I`v been watching this video. Beyond the urban ( environmental) legend about the "Web of Life"- speech attributed to Si’ahl, this one here is a magnificent "brainfood" too.
If i did not already have it in my favorites, i would certainly put it there right now.

Thank you so much. His description of the difference in how life is viewed by Native Peoples and Whites and Whites of Color is painfully true. But we are not a doomed People. There are descendants grieving the loss of the Elders and keeping the traditions. That is what keeps us alive.

Chief Seattle never uttered those words. They were, in fact, written by a screen writer, Ted Perry, in 1971 for a film about pollution and the plight of the Earth, called "Home".

This video gives me goosebumps. And what courage it took to respond like this to their invaders and ultimate demise. Taking death with courage, respect, and knowing that they are not gone, they just become one with the Earth and live forever. Also proving that the Great Spirit favors the Red man over the white man, Such well written and soul stirring.

'After his talk, Seattle made his reply , which was delivered through an interpreter. Dr. (Henry) Smith carefully wrote it down on the spot'.
quoted from a book I'm looking at, several of the lines have been omitted from this reading but the orator has added nothing so it is sorta accurate.

    • @johneyon5257
      @johneyon5257 หลายเดือนก่อน

Smith did not "carefully"' record it - he recorded fragments of it - he was getting it thru an interpreter - which would explain the fragmentary nature - - it was finally published some 30 years later from Smith's notes and memory - no doubt with various writers and editors trying to make it coherent and sensible

Chief Seattle was in perfect touch not only with his inner divinity but also with his outer animal nature, unlike many of us today.
Although its authenticity has been questioned, Chief Seattle’s speech has become known worldwide as the most beautiful statement on the environment ever made.
Yet many people fail to see that it’s much more: It’s a treasure of native American wisdom that reveals the great “secret” of life on earth. This secret was known to all native America Indians and to all ancient and indigenous people.
    What is the secret?
The secret is that Nature is endowed with divinity and spirituality. More importantly, we are too but we fail to see it.

Going to have to deal with the recording house we worked with which was many moons ago as Chief Seattle might have said. We'll get it squared away as quick as we can - may take a bit of time. Thanks for giving us a heads up. It's one of our favorites too.

reading the Silmarillion preface, one can draw some interesting parallels between the ancient people of the Earth, and this modern 'machine'.....if you think of ancient-tribal peoples as the Firstborn aka Elves, you'll see what i mean.
"The making, and nature, of the Children of God, were the two chief secrets. All that the gods knew was that they would come, at appointed times. The Children of God are thus primevally related and akin, and primevally different. Since also they are something wholly 'other' to the gods, in the making of which the gods played no part, they are the object of the special desire and love of the gods. These are the First-born, the Elves; and the Followers Men. The doom of the Elves is to be immortal, to love the beauty of the world, to bring it to full flower with their gifts of delicacy and perfection, to last while it lasts, never leaving it even when 'slain', but returning - and yet, when the Followers come, to teach them, and make way for them, to 'fade' as the Followers grow and absorb the life from which both proceed. The Doom (or the Gift) of Men is mortality, freedom from the circles of the world."

So-called Native Americans. Sur-named by the white man, are actually the Biblical Tribe of Gad, meaning "a troop or Fortune" and the prophecy foretold of your down fall in -
Genesis49:19 Gad, a troop shall overcome him: but he shall overcome at the last.
Job17:6 He hath made me also a BYWORD(a satire, a ridicule) of the people: and aforetime I was a TABRET(beaten, a smiting).
You came over to the Northern Hemisphere with your real brothers, the other tribes of Latino and Negro decent.
