    As a fellow father and uncle, watching you with the boys there made me brim with pride for you. I wouldn’t call myself a prepper or even a country boy really but I’m trying to learn useful skills like this, for various different reasons. As well as a fine educational video it was a heartwarming thing, to watch a good male role model in action. Sadly it’s a rare thing where I’m from. The camera work wasn’t too shabby, either. Thanks for sharing your knowledge

    great video. Do the holes need or should be in an equilateral triangle? thanks

    • @badbadbob1
      @badbadbob1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Short answer Yes Triangle.
      Long answer: I made holes larger then needed so I could do all sizes of rope. You can make a small rope, like for a close line with string, twine will make a 3/8s" rope. But if you double or even triple your twine back and forth. You can make a 1" rope with one winding set. I needed the larger holes when the large rope was made. Yes an even distance appear and not to close to each other with the holes is best. The fiber on the twine want to catch each other.

    My younger brother was looking on line one day for a rope machine. He said they were $350. to $1500. I said I could make one with only the scraps I have at the farm. We have made several 1000' so far. Most of it went to make a monkey bridge we use for scouting.

    Hi Bob,
    I am in Art Therapy program and I am doing project for my wind chime and I want to use similar as your method to make rope although I struggle to find tension paddle you titled on video that you use? Did u make it yourself or buy it from somewhere else?

    • @badbadbob1
      @badbadbob1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      90% of everything I use in my Projects are re-purposed from old stuff. Like the rope machine. Wheel, gears, bearings and the shafts, were from an old lawnmower. I did make the paddle out of plywood scraps from another project. I drilled the hole center 2" in and divided into three. then cut from the outside to the hole for an easy to make paddle. Good luck with your project.

    I wouldn't mess with that rope with a stick.After the ends are whipped and the rope is cut loose that is a time for a tug-a-war.As you were coiling it I could see that rope still needed some tugging.For ropes 3/4 to 1" I tie them off to a tree and tug with my truck.

    • @badbadbob1
      @badbadbob1  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Rustaholic777 Well the rope is being made for a monkey bridge. After you make one rope you need many more just like it. It helps that it be knot free when tying your poles. So a good stretch will make a tight knot. Its not much good as a toe rope. But I have made a 8 strain rope that did pull a Dodge out of the mud.

    • @Rustaholic777
      @Rustaholic777 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Bob Anderson The last rope I made was 140 feet long and 3/4" diameter.I use it to pull down trees that don't want to fall where I need them to.It was 24 strands of old baling twine. I used the whole thing. I took the total length as stated on the old burlap wrapper, divided it by 24 then paced off that many feet and strung it up. I must be pretty good at pacing off measurements because I had about 12 feet of twine left over. I was only off six inches in my pacing that far.That old twine wrapper also said the twine was treated against rot and mildew.
