These metal ball bearings are conductive, which means that there's a high risk of shorting something in the keyboard when it's powered on. Even just one of these moving around on the PCB is sufficient to destroy the keyboard is you're unlucky enough. NEVER do this, because the risks are way greater than the potential gains. To realize how electrically important this is, imagine that even the glue of the tape that you'll use in a tape mod needs to be non-conductive.
Bonus info: People who have used tapes with conductive glue for their tape "tempest" mod have even accidentally shorted their keyboard's battery and it led to a fire. This has happened even to TH-camrs, such as Switch & Click. Stay safe, people and to be extra sure, avoid the tape mod altogether if your keyboard is wireless (has a battery).
I have never done a tape mod, but I would suggest kapton tape because it is commonly used in electronics or maybe platers tape, it leaves no residue after being removed. I'm familiar with red platers tape from Saint Gobain.
Razer sucks, they have made some decent hardware, but their support in the past few years has fallen off terribly, it is now, essentially non-existent, and believe me, you will need their support at some point. Obviously. But no one in the mech community wants rgb shinethrough. Like that's for gamers and stuff. I want the LED to line up with the status indicator window of my keycaps as they are intended - thank you very much. Like the MX design isn't for that.
Yes and no. Normal shinethroughs, you are correct, the light will be below the letters. The front-facing "stealth" shinethrough, i.e. if the legends are on the front, not on the top, south-facing works better. So it comes down to a weird word... preface... preveren.... preference? Yes, that one.

this is so subjective...i researched for weeks before buying something and every brand has those comments "bought something and it broke within a year" so according to those opinions you cant buy anything... have my razer mouse and keybpoard for 6 years now and nothing is broken also i dont know how it is in america but if something breaks in europe within 2 years you get a free repair or new one or money back and i absolutely love that so those billion dollar companies cant scam us
7:09 Thank God they are north facing LEDs. I freaking hate south facing LEDs. South facing LEDs have uneven lighting. You can literally see south facing LEDs by simply looking at the keyboard, and it's very distracting. They also don't light up the characters well. If you're worried about keycap interference, buy some o-rings or washers.
i agree, and that comes from someone who never uses rgb on their keyboards, south facing LEDs 100% have their place in boards that want nicer RGB, plus who is genuinely going to buy this keyboard and then go and try put GMK keycaps on it, pretty much noone, and if you want to use cherry profile keycaps that badly just buy a different keyboard or use long pole switches
Everything else aside, I REALLY like the knob being on the side of the keyboard like that. Knobs take up wayyyy too much room under most designs for something you will maybe touch once a week if you already have volume control elsewhere. Granted, the screen kinda defeats those advantages, but if you really want a screen and a knob, this isn't a bad way to do it.
the double typing issue came from the board because I did replace the switches by some other brand one and they ended double typing after a month of use on the razer.I decided to use the razer switches on other barebone boad and it worked perfectly
I bought the blackwidow v4 75% first version, i had insane double click issues after 2 months of use on the most used keys like wasd for apex, qwer for league and some other random ones like esc. Kept swapping the switches with functioning ones across the keyboard and then, after all this time, last month i got Akko V3 Creamy Purple Pro. Even with minimal RGB housings, there's dim RGB, insanely good tactile feedback but lighter spring, faster travel time, INSANELY good sound on this keyboard AND no more double clicking issues. Also MANY people keep saying the razer blackwidow v4 75% kept double clicking with razer switches even after activating their warranty and getting 1 to 2 different keyboard replacements. I'm pretty sure Razer still hasn't fixed double clicking issues :/
I have exactly same story, but I am using Akko V3 Cream Blue Pro Switch. It is 99% better now but here and there I notice double-typing again. So upset with Razer, especially after having another Blackwidowfor 4 years, with original Orange Tactile Switches.
@LAUCHGeorge the Azoth is great, although definitely overpriced and that's not even talking about the Extreme. A friend has the BlackWidow V4 and is on his second board after the first one had keys just completely die on him. Even on the second one, he's had to swap out switches as he's had multiple die on him.
Bro, as a RTS game player the whole whole point of a razer keyboard like my blackwidow v4 pro is to have customizable LEDS and dedicated macros, where you can see the colors you've chosen for every key color coded by categories. THEN easily switch back to normal colored keys when you're not gaming at the push of a button! why would you choose to cover the leds! other than that nice sounding keyboard you made, but the functionality of the led keys is gone. make one where it is just as nice sounding but has lit keys then you have made a worthy improvement.
After using a Razer keyboard for the better part of 5 years I can honestly say they are a good starting point people who don't know about the world of mechanical keyboards
the best thing about razer is the wrist rests always very comfortable like when my razer keyboard still worked even though using wrist rests because i have to put my hand so far away from the edge of the desk they are so comfortable that even when it broke, i still kept the wrist rests
I would like to set a challenge here: - ISO Layout (preferred ISO-DE) - North-Facing LED (for shine-through key caps) - Wireless 2.4, BL, and! wired mode - 75% With dedicated keys for: DEL, INS, HOME I think there are not much options below 300 bugs. However if you see some, drop them below.
So... Azoth with Razer branding? With cheaper build quality but also more expensive? Who is this for? Azoth is already a niche board in the first place, and now they made a worse clone with higher pricetag. And if money is non issue, and you really want the top of the line gaming keyboard there's that Azoth Extreme, and plenty of HE boards if you favor performance over anything. At this point, the only reason to get this over Azoth is for people who wants uniformed, all Razer build
This being 300 dollar is not that special. Razer, Logitech and SteelSeries for example are all just sales brands, you only really buy anything from them when it's 50-70% off and rest of the year nobody is buying anything from them. If it's not Black Friday or Christmas sales nobody is buying anything. When this goes on sale for 150 dollar it will be seen as such a steal but it will just be at what the price should've always been.
i was looking to buy a new keyboard for a while now and i wanted to get the Blackwidow v4 75% but after reading the comments about the failing switches i changed my mind completely, even if it was only in the first batch no matter, it shouldnt happen at all at that price
Can confirm here, i have another box of orange switches sent to me from razer support and it still double types💀 I ordered a box of v1 switches and haven't look back.
There is no way you are criticizing the north facing leds in a see-through legend gamery keyboard. The average consumer does not care about super thick 120$ keycap sets from GMK and the slight interference. South facing leds make the illuminated legends look like garbage.
Btw... I still remember how razer with its snake triangle logo was the bottom budget brand for gaming accessories at one point in time. So if that changed somewhat during all those years I think they deserve a compliment for that.
I like it for the fact that it emulates the anologe controls of a controller. When I'm playing Cyberpunk I now I keep switching between keyboard and controller everytime I get in to a car.
I had the previous Razer v4 75%, and even when I changed the switches I still had the double press haha, I tried with different switches and same happened, maybe was the board itself, I used the razer switches on a custom keyboard and had no issues (just like with 2 switches, but changed them and no issues ) Go for a custom guys xd
I literaly brought the Razer Black Widow 75% 2 days before they announced the Pro based on your review (I know there are better value keyboards, but I realy like Razer Synapse and wanted to stay in the ecosystem). My previous keyboard was a realy cheap membrane keyboard, and wanted a mechanical one for years. I guess I don't have to say it, but it did not dissapointed me. The only thing I noticed that the ghaskets are realy stiff, so I don't realy feel it with my minimum force typing. (And yes, I know I can cut some of it out, but I don't want to void the warranty, and it still perfectly fine for me)
if you think any razer keyboard is good, then you need to quit overspending and just pick any of the hundreds of less than 100 dollar full aluminum keyboards. they are cheaper, much better quality, and will last way longer.
@@tomgreene5388 maybe you're right, maybe not. I don't have a lot of experience in this. However, I watched at least 50 diffrent keyboard's review before buying. @@legeslegjobb7089 almost every keyboard has that feature set as a standard now. Even if a keyboard doesn't have shine through keycaps, it's literally the easiest thing to swap and probably only another 20 dollars or so for a set. I'm just trying to inform you that there is very good options nowadays that aren't the mainstream big name brands that sell very average products at premium prices. Also edit- razer keyboards are not even close to being thocky.
Razer basically has a trend of calling any wireless version of most products "Pro". So for example it will be the exact same mouse, but wireless and therefore "Pro". You could say it's a deceptive marketing or a gimmick, but anyone who actually buys their products will know this has been the case for like a decade.
I bought the OG V4 75% for a very good price (imo) on the secondhand market, and it was in pretty good shape. After a week of using it, multiple switches starting chattering/double clicking on their own. I could fix it by pushing the switch in, blowing some compressed air from a can in there, and then actuating it a bunch. That would fix a for a bit. Found the same multiple posts online like you did that complained about that, so I was a little bit disappointed, but for the price I got it for, I wasn't complaining too much. I did end up buying some Gateron Smooties after seeing them in another video of yours though, and it was worth the upgrade. I for one like the V4 75%'s look, and I love RGB, and I still think Razer's in-game support for chroma is the best on the market. I do also love swapping boards though, so I don't use it exclusively. I also use my Logitech, Duckys, Keychron and Leopolds. Also dang, they went with PBT this time? One thing I also didn't like about the OG, is the fact that they decided to use ABS, even if they're not the worst I've seen. I've since also changed those to some PBT pudding keycaps.
I like shine through. I know I don't need to look at my keys that often at night but literally... that's the point of having lighting? Like on a laptop? Ya know? See your keys?
So, if you're here to learn about the wireless performance, latency compared to other keyboards, or battery life, there's no information on that. But if you're here for some crazy keyboard stuff, then you might be satisfied.
Yall, please stop spam posting your switch problems of the non pro version here, hipyo made a review of the non pro version too, post your reviews there. Please just post your review on the PRO version. I've seen countless comments complaining about their double clicking problems on the non pro version, i clicked on this video trying to see reviews about the pro version yet no one is talking about it, i cant even know if the pro version has any hardware fault at this point
I worked for IBM repairing Selectric typewriters in the 60's. I was trained at the IBM Selectric plant in Lexington, KY. I touch-type the fastest on a Selectric. I wish to find a computer keyboard with the key travel and resistance of a Selectric for my Mac. Does such a thing exist?
Let's just say the quiet part out loud. It is a mimic of the Azoth, and they are releasing this as the "pro" because Asus did that with the Azoth, costing $499. Oh, and there is nothing justifying that insane price. But some people will buy it - same ones that buy the $100 mount in World of Warcraft or Diablo 4. That is the marketing reason to price it the way they did. Nothing more.
I hope this is the right place to ask. I don't have as much experience as Hipyo: I've only used one mechanical keyboard - the Corsair K70 from 2015 and I'm looking to upgrade. Initially, I considered the Wooting 80HE, but I noticed that it costs over €300+ for an aluminum frame. I'd like to switch to something new, both technologically and in terms of software, preferably with an aluminum frame. Any advice is appreciated.

Try searching for the Akko Mod 007B (I think it is called that) should have everything you asked for. If you don't need Hall effect switches, you can look at Keychron, or Akko's normal boards. I had the Monsgeek M1 from them and I liked it a lot, sold it though because it was just far too heavy and no flippy feet
I picked up a Keychron Q60 on sale for ~€155 a couple of months ago. It's not hall-effect, but I prefer the wider variety of MX-compatible switches¹, and I really wanted a HHKB layout. There are cheaper aluminium keyboards, some are also hall-effect, but the Keychron Q series are the only ones I can personally vouch for. ¹Yes, I know some keyboards support both.
People use other keycaps profiles you know, not only cherry. You could try too, they sound thockier, simple as that. OEM, SA etc. and you will not have problems with north facing rgb leds :P
the main reason i like razer v4 75 (i have the non pro) is the implementation of some - enough games with the RGB control, like explosions / cooldowns etc, which you find in all razer rgb keyboards, you dont enjoy it as much as when you first get it but i do miss it when i use any other keyboard, the v4 75 even tho a bit overpriced, still hit the mark for my "Custom like" / enthusiasts features even tho its not rly close to some good ones/ more expensive ones. the added wrist rest which i cant do without is also very good, all other custom keyboards i liked either dont include one or its not magnetic etc, which i prefer cause i move the keyboard around very much especially in fps, and the magnetic one always sticks to the keyboard when moved instead of normal ones which you have to move together and its irritating when on a fast paced game. other than that i hate the fact that alot of people had issue with the switches its very bad for a product that costs around 180-200euros, even tho i immediately changed the orange ones with cheap linears i had but hand lubed which had a major difference with both performance in fast games and sound/feel. every other company offers different sets of switches with purchase and razer stuffing those oranges in your throat where you like it or not is BS even tho i overall like the keyboard. additionaly pbt keycaps should be included instead of abs, they were good quality but regardless they already starting to be on the smooth side now and lost half of their "matte/grip" coating. if you factor everything in like buying extra switches - linears / buying PBT keycaps etc it well around 300euros which is way to much for the setup and you can get pretty much whatever other keyboard you like. the pro version is just a ripp off from other keyboards like azoth etc, but it was bound to be the next step for them. but 300e? lmao...
I've had my razer blackwidow 75% for less than a year and had to replace the switches due to them pressing multiple times on a single stroke. Their support was not helpful when I went to them about it. To be fair, the other aspects of the keyboard seem to be doing well so far..
Razer just names all of their wireless devices “Pro”. I do understand why people hate razer, but I got my mouse and headset from them, and didn’t have any issues with them
A friend has the regular BlackWidow V4 and is on his second board after the first one had keys just completely die on him. Even on the second one, he's had to swap out switches as he's had multiple die on him. Not sure if this is just a switch issue or something deeper as he's too stubborn to just buy some decent switches and swap all of them out.
Hi Hipyo Great Video 👍Could you maybe make an video about the Sharkoon Skiller SGK50 S3 Barebone? im courios if its any good because of what i heard it souns pretty good for the price and it also has a a lot of good accesories like a coiled cable and a good switch puller. I thionk it would be interesting. and its 75 percent :)
My BW4 75% wired had the aforementioned orange key ghosting and multiple actuation issue within the first couple of weeks and I have since put the keyboard in my parts bin.
It definitely sounds better after the mods and as the Morandi are long pole I'm assuming they took care of the interference with the Cherry profile caps as well. I think the balls would work with silicon, just not with the sand. Much like the Azoth Extreme, it's just too expensive for what you get. The Evo80 went on sale a couple of days ago for about half the price (not including shipping). It looks to be quite similar to the Neo80 but prebuilt with RGB. The Neo80 to me, with it's low front height, is one of the easiest keyboards to type on and use ever. Why would anyone spend twice as much for this when you can get a full AL build with nice switches (if you want linear), matching keycaps, a ball-latch system for modding and a case from a quite reputable company (Qwertykeys/Owl Lab/Neo)?
I HOPE that screen isnt the only thing added to make it "pro". I could really buy this cause 75% Nvm, saw the price. Looks like every company thinks can charge 300 usd for a mid/bad keyboard
snap tap and hyperpolling are what sets razer products apart from the competition i suppose. Also the software, and the rgb if that tickles your fancy. But yes... I can agree $300 USD is obscene. my huntsman was $300 CAD and I thought that was insane enough
@HipyoTech since I've got you here, is there a thocky hall effect switch you'd recommend? Throw in a good keycap set too 🤣🤣 You've ignited my keyboard passion i never thought I'd get into. Your input is appreciated ❤
in germany because of iso standart and stuff like öäü it is very hard to find decent keyboards and or keycaps. so in many cases you are stuck with big brands because at least they support these restrictions i suffer from here. so for a long time i was glaring at all these shiny keyboards but never really could get something that truly would make me happy. well its not like that drasticly changed but at least some more iso keyboards release these days, keycaps is still a nightmare in germany but there are some even though they are like double the price than most other common layouts. i managed to get a monsgeek m1v5 iso via which even comes with german layout keycaps for just 119 euro in a sale and replaced them with totally overpriced german layout glorious rain forest keycaps for 55 euro... so for 174 euro which is still alot i finally got a decent keyboard i am incredibly happy with. even with all these restrictions the prices razer asks for with such cheap quality is insane. and in most places you can get 3 better keyboards for the same price. the next few yeary will be really hard for companies like razer or logitech, the offerings from china get so well and are priced so agressive. they really need to change if they dont wont to get eaten from them. they never had such agressive competition
Oh man I super thought you were going to say that the issue was that the metal ball bearings got into something and shorted something out and actually ruined the keyboard lol. Be careful when putting loose metal into electronics 😜 I really like my Naga mouse by razer and used it up until I got a sit stand converter for my desk and wireless became a must. Keep pointing them in the right direction and maybe they’ll get there 😊
If you are actually into keyboards, you should already know that you shouldn’t even be considering brands such as razer, corsair, asus, or any of the other gaming brands
These gamer companies aren't paying attention, or they hope that their "fans" won't seem to notice that you can get much better keyboards (and usually mice, headphones, etc) for a fraction of what they want for theirs, and at higher quality....if this was 3 years ago...nah, it would still be overpriced but just not by as much...but in the era of really good $100 (or less) boards, this is just absurd.
Main reason im still using a brand keyboard instead of a custom one is that i like my numpad and when i looked at options in the past there were not many offering full size parts i liked. As for if i wanted a 75% for example there would be so many options to pick from so i would not buy a brand keyboard. So yeah, im using a "Corsair K70 Max" and tbh i really like it. But than again i never had a proper custom keyboard to compare it to only other brand keyboards.
The keycaps made a big improvement to the look of it, but I still wouldn't get it. I'm definitely getting the Arbiter Studio Kitsune Pro 75 though. That's the one board I want now, then probably a Rainy 75.

nobody complains about north facing leds like hipyo. i have never had a problem with north facing leds. i actually like them better
At this point its a bit
They're the best.
@@HipyoTechboooo
It's basically the only option for shine-through, since for whatever reason *no one* makes keycaps with SouthWest legends.
There is a good reason wooting has gone with north facing
I can confirm that the switches in my V4 75% went bad, but I replaced them with the same switches and haven't had an issue yet.

Blackwidow 2019 ain't bad. Only $80. I got it with green switches but I believe you can get it with yellow as well.

the best thing about razer is the wrist rests
always very comfortable
like when my razer keyboard still worked
even though using wrist rests because i have to put my hand so far away from the edge of the desk
they are so comfortable that even when it broke, i still kept the wrist rests
I would like to set a challenge here:
- ISO Layout (preferred ISO-DE)
- North-Facing LED (for shine-through key caps)
- Wireless 2.4, BL, and! wired mode
- 75% With dedicated keys for: DEL, INS, HOME
I think there are not much options below 300 bugs.
When this goes on sale for 150 dollar it will be seen as such a steal but it will just be at what the price should've always been.
agreed. im buying this keyboard when black friday rolls around. ig if i cant get it for a deal then oh well. 300 for a board is borderline retarthed
i was looking to buy a new keyboard for a while now and i wanted to get the Blackwidow v4 75% but after reading the comments about the failing switches i changed my mind completely, even if it was only in the first batch no matter, it shouldnt happen at all at that price

The keyboard looks like the ROG Azoth, but in my opinion the Azoth is better. Which keyboard do you prefer?
I like it for the fact that it emulates the anologe controls of a controller. When I'm playing Cyberpunk I now I keep switching between keyboard and controller everytime I get in to a car.
I had the previous Razer v4 75%, and even when I changed the switches I still had the double press haha, I tried with different switches and same happened, maybe was the board itself, I used the razer switches on a custom keyboard and had no issues (just like with 2 switches, but changed them and no issues )

300$ for this kind of quality is criminal… jesus christ.
I like shine through. I know I don't need to look at my keys that often at night but literally... that's the point of having lighting? Like on a laptop? Ya know? See your keys?

It's long time ago that I learned that Razer maks good enough stuff but it does not hold much longer than the warranty counts.
I'd like to switch to something new, both technologically and in terms of software, preferably with an aluminum frame.

the main reason i like razer v4 75 (i have the non pro) is the implementation of some - enough games with the RGB control, like explosions / cooldowns etc, which you find in all razer rgb keyboards, you dont enjoy it as much as when you first get it but i do miss it when i use any other keyboard, the v4 75 even tho a bit overpriced, still hit the mark for my "Custom like" / enthusiasts features even tho its not rly close to some good ones/ more expensive ones. the added wrist rest which i cant do without is also very good, all other custom keyboards i liked either dont include one or its not magnetic etc, which i prefer cause i move the keyboard around very much especially in fps, and the magnetic one always sticks to the keyboard when moved instead of normal ones which you have to move together and its irritating when on a fast paced game. other than that i hate the fact that alot of people had issue with the switches its very bad for a product that costs around 180-200euros, even tho i immediately changed the orange ones with cheap linears i had but hand lubed which had a major difference with both performance in fast games and sound/feel. every other company offers different sets of switches with purchase and razer stuffing those oranges in your throat where you like it or not is BS even tho i overall like the keyboard. additionaly pbt keycaps should be included instead of abs, they were good quality but regardless they already starting to be on the smooth side now and lost half of their "matte/grip" coating. if you factor everything in like buying extra switches - linears / buying PBT keycaps etc it well around 300euros which is way to much for the setup and you can get pretty much whatever other keyboard you like. the pro version is just a ripp off from other keyboards like azoth etc, but it was bound to be the next step for them. but 300e? lmao...

Why would anyone spend twice as much for this when you can get a full AL build with nice switches (if you want linear), matching keycaps, a ball-latch system for modding and a case from a quite reputable company (Qwertykeys/Owl Lab/Neo)?

in germany because of iso standart and stuff like öäü it is very hard to find decent keyboards and or keycaps. so in many cases you are stuck with big brands because at least they support these restrictions i suffer from here. so for a long time i was glaring at all these shiny keyboards but never really could get something that truly would make me happy. well its not like that drasticly changed but at least some more iso keyboards release these days, keycaps is still a nightmare in germany but there are some even though they are like double the price than most other common layouts. i managed to get a monsgeek m1v5 iso via which even comes with german layout keycaps for just 119 euro in a sale and replaced them with totally overpriced german layout glorious rain forest keycaps for 55 euro...
so for 174 euro which is still alot i finally got a decent keyboard i am incredibly happy with. even with all these restrictions the prices razer asks for with such cheap quality is insane. and in most places you can get 3 better keyboards for the same price. the next few yeary will be really hard for companies like razer or logitech, the offerings from china get so well and are priced so agressive. they really need to change if they dont wont to get eaten from them. they never had such agressive competition
