March LitLand 2024 ~ Punishment Picks and Challenges Ahead

- March's LitLand was quite the wild ride. Hopefully, I make it to April!

Current LitLand Rules
There are six colors tied to six different genres. Each card I pull advances me across the board and informs which genre I pick from to add to my To Be Read (TBR) pile for the month.
I pull four cards to advance across the board each month.
If I land on a dot, I have to pull a prompt from my Stuck Square cards; I also use these as punishment cards if I haven’t completed one of my books from a previous month. BUT I do allow rollovers, so I essentially give myself two months to get a book read, or else I have to take a punishment. Punishment pulls also don’t help me advance across the board.
If I pull a pink card with a book on it, I have to go to wherever the genre on the card takes me. I also have to pull a Challenge Card and complete that prompt.
There are also Troll Bridge cards, but I only pull those if I want to cross a bridge or if I land on a square with a rainbow sticker. I have to complete the prompt on that card within the month or I have to take a punishment.
There’s also the Monthly Troll, which is an optional challenge for you and me. I will pull a Troll Bridge card and if I succeed in whatever the challenge is, I can protect myself from punishment in the next month. You’re welcome to play along and take on this challenge with me, but no pressure.
At the end of LitLand I get to treat myself with a book haul. Currently, I’m on a book-buying ban until I read 50 of my owned books or until I beat LitLand again.
Hopefully, this helps keep us all up-to-date on the rules. Sometimes I make tweaks as I go along, but the current rules affecting this month’s game should be listed above.

Hey! It's me! Yay for The Diamond Eye! I hope you enjoy. I just finished it yesterday and it's not my favorite Kate Quinn but still a solid, solid Historical Fiction that covers a woman not well known but who was very badass and important to the Russian war effort during WWII. Also, hooray for ethical vegetarianism/veganism as I am one as well. Lol.
Haha well thank you for having such a fun TBR this month. I'm so curious now to see how it stacks up to other Kate Quinns. And if you ever read Boyfriend Material you'll have to tell me if the ethical vegetarian rep is right!

The Diamond Eye 😍. I LOVED this book. I’ve loved every book I’ve read by Kate. I might have a Kate Quinn month this year just to reread the books i own of hers. i have to buy her co authored book with Janie Chang that was released recently.

I love the first book in The Princess Diaries series, but not the sequels. I only read the first four books in the series, and then I DNF the series. I kept the first book because it’s the only book the in the series I like. Good luck with your TBR.
Thank you! I think I'll just stick with book 1 too. Unless it unlocks some epic form of nostalgia, I'm ok with a little revisit and not a deep dive.

I know you don't do audiobooks too often, but Shonda Rhimes reads Year of Yes and she's very engaging, which might help you get through that a bit faster.
Ahh thank you! That's super helpful actually. I can kind of hear her voice when I read it because it's so clear in my mind, but actually hearing it is probably way better.
@@TheLitReviewForBooks I think listening to her read the audiobook actually made me enjoy it more than I would have otherwise because I connected to her telling me her story rather than myself reading it in my own tones/affects in my head.

Yes, it's spelled Caitlin. My sister-in-law didn't want her to be able to shorten it, but she did anyways and now goes by Caity, lol.@@TheLitReviewForBooks
