    You mentioned Geoff's voice was suited for a Viking. You need to react to VoicePlay's cover of "My Mother Told Me".

    I would also recommend Voiceplay's version of "The Dragon born come." I loved your reaction. Geoff can not only hit very low notes but he can sustain them. That's the really amazing thing.

    Geoff was born in Virginia so of course he would do it, but he lives in Florida - he hates the cold. :) Geoff doesn't do his solo covers a capella, he has VoicePlay for that. He adds instrumention at the editing stage using plugins. It was filmed in Florida. Not sure where exactly.

      Probably the Kissimmee area; it was and still is cattle country. I know, no one thinks of cows in Florida, but it's a big thing.

    The thing that is wild to me, yes obviously his range is insane.. But clarity at such low notes is amazing

    Wow! Thank you, young lady, for that information! I've listened to this song since it first came out in the 70's, and ALWAYS assumed it was referring to West Virginia. I never had an inkling of an idea that it's about the "western" segment of Virginia! Very interesting! I live in Georgia, but have friends in Virginia. My wife lived in Virginia for 4 of her teen years before we ever met. I LOVE your beautiful state, the mountains, the Shenandoah Valley area and particularly around Roanoke and Wytheville areas!

    What I Love about ACA is 2 group(s) or Individuals can cover the same song and find their own way into it and take us all along for the awesomeness. I'm clearly a Home Fry and Love what they did with it. However I have room in my heart for Geoff. They both did this song beyond Great and differently. John Denver is Smiling on them Both.
    Thanks for this one! It's well seated in my childhood memories when John did it. For a long time I couldn't bare to hear it I'd just sob. Now I can enjoy it as something familiar but brand new.

    First, your link takes us to House of the Rising Sun, you'll want to correct that. When Geoff does his solo work, he does not go for acapella. He says he already does that with Voiceplay, no need to deprive himself of accompaniment. Sometimes he accompanies himself on the piano. So glad you got back to Geoff, he is amazing. For me, it isn't that he can sing low, it's that he can sing low so beautifully and clearly. A friend sent me a link to his cover of 16 Tons, and I have been hooked on him and Voiceplay ever since!
    I think you will love his cover of High and Dry, just one Geoff (that's rare) and the piano/keyboard.

    You should react to his version of Shenandoah, it is simply beautiful

    It was filmed in northern Florida, at a farm, and the cat in the video is just a cat of the farm that just does what it wants…so they put it in the video…in an interview with Geoff he mentioned where it was filmed at…which makes sense because he resides in Orlando… also, Geoff is originally from Alexandria, VA … 😊

    Love anything Geoff does either solo(sort of) and with VP. Another outstanding version of this song is Home Free's. They essentially do a true cover of it, as opposed to those who just ape the original lyrics/melody.

    Sorry to tell you Shea but the Shenandoah River is mostly known for being in West Virginia. While it does run through Virginia as well, almost no one associates it with Virginia. So I think that John Denver was singing about West Virginia, not Virginia. Although, I could be wrong. There is evidence pointing to both states in the song.

    Tim foust worked with him on the show when they were doing battle against each other and Tim showed him how to go really low. I still believe Tim can go even lower. God bless

    • @kathrynmenzel2615
      @kathrynmenzel2615 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually Geoff almost never uses the growl technique that he learned from Tim. It’s really hard on the voice. 0:46 He can go amazingly low in his chest voice and his ultra low notes are subharmonic not growl. As low as B0 in VoicePlay’s cover of Halo.

    • @Stan_S_Stanman
      @Stan_S_Stanman ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Geoff only learned the growls from Tim, which he doesn't use anymore. Subs and low chest he learned on his own

    • @dianeschluter9995
      @dianeschluter9995 ปีที่แล้ว

      Geoff does still use growls from time to time but almost always in the background where you don't consciously hear them. Growls are a very airy, unsupported sound so they don't get the rich tamber of his voice the way subharmonics can.

    The debate about West Virginia vs west Virginia is not a fact in either case. The lyrics place it in both scenarios and West made the lyrics work better so no one really knows which he meant, as the exact location can place it in either state along a 20 mile stretch.
