Personally I think it is down to experience, as you might experience a paid stalk but gaining experience from the 1-2hrs with a guide that time is used up getting on to one. Then being able to repeat it could be quite some time so it is hard to compound on the first as all stalks are different un like as clays as you can repeat the same stands week in week out.
Where a lot of people go from a non shooting background then into stalking is in my opinion the wrong way around as there is none or very little background from where I started off as an example of air rifles 1 ferret 10 nets then more ferrets more nets rough shooting where you learn to walk softly and so on. Make a noise when the rabbit is at the net then you learn to dig.
Make a noise stalking the deer is gone.the basics are the same but people want to bypass the learning in the first place and shoot deer. I got a open FAC from shooting foxes not deer as I shot a huge amount so shooting deer was easy as you use the same rules just in daylight.

Thanks bud, i agree with what you have said her. I have gone from observing so much, i now want to get my hands dirty so have to start right at the beginning. i'm keen to keep it food and fire cooking related though so in an ideal world i'll eat what i shoot.

I would recommend it DSC 1 or even better DSC 2, which is recognised by land owners. DSC 1 is just an insight, but stalking for 40 years you would be surprised how many stalkers I see who can't identify deer that are about to shoot or don't know anything about the lymph nodes in deer

If i'm doing 1 i'm doing 2. The next video in this series is some firearms training. you have no idea how new i am to this. not fired anything over an air rifle before. i'm trying to demonstrate how interested i am and build all this up.

@@HunterGathererCooking I did it and the instructor was amazed at my accuracy with his rifle, he asked what gun I shot and my answer was air rifle 😂
