First of all, may I say that I am almost 90 years of age, so I can remember Abbott and Costello in their prime, and I never thought that I would see our younger generation enjoying these sketches as much as this lovely lady did. She really got into the sketch, even as far as shouting the answers out to the film clip. It juust goes to prove that true comedy is timeless. Well done to this young lady.

I'm a retired teacher and every year on opening day I would play the clip of "Who's On First" for my 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. I told them I was going to show them the best comedy routine ever. They all loved it. Goes to show that great material and delivery never gets old.

I don't know if you know anything about the game of cricket, but you have a batsman, a bowler, and several fielders. Pretty sure this is older than the 50s. I think the basic sketch dates to the depression era and was in more or less its present form by the time America entered WWII. And yes, it's a classic: there have been minor references to it all over pop culture for decades, which you'll start to notice now that you're familiar with it. Cartoons, movies, music, comedy, etc. all refer back to it here and there, from time to time. It's almost as pervasive that way as the To Be or Not To Be speech.

Abbot and Costello were absolute Geniuses when it comes to Comedy 🎭 and it’s so strong that it’s still funny today. Their most iconic and remembered acts are definitely Who’s on first and the 7 times 13= 28 sketch ✍🏻. Another iconic comedy duo I recommend watching is Laurel and Hardy absolutely perfect. They are another comic duo that is still funny and iconic today. I think they are both brilliant acts and are still very iconic to this day and I never tire of the punchlines. Xx

The Andy Griffith show 'whistle intro' was how I learned to whistle in kindergarten back in the day. Andy Griffith also played 'Matlock' the lawyer in the 80s and 90s.

I think they wee doing this routine in the late 1930's on radio. Their humor helped get us through WW II.

Glad you're enjoying this classic comedy!
FYI, this routine inherits much from early 1900s burlesque routines. A&C first began forming their version around 1936, and introduced it to 'viral' acclaim in 1937.
Since then, it's been an audience favorite. In 1999 Time Magazine named it the best comedy sketch of the 20th century. How's that for a couple of veteran Vaudevillians :)

Speaking of Andy Griffith, he had a spoken record (45rpm) back in the day called, "What It Was Was Football". I don't know if it's on TH-cam, but if you know football, it's a hoot.

There are a bunch of videos of that routine on TH-cam. Here's one that actually shows Andy performing it live on the Ed Sullivan Show in Black and White from 1954. th-cam.com/video/O_B_soGAAsM/w-d-xo.html

When they went to radio, their voices sounded alike. So Costello went up and fast, and Abbott went with a deeper voice.

Schempf, the founding member of The Three Stooges, was actually the understudy of Abbott and Costello, and appeared in a few of their movies, playing a serious role, while learning his craft as a comedian.

That's funny. It reminds me about 2 years ago a friend and I was doing some work at a customers house and him and I were kinda bickering back and forth about the install we had. The home owner heard us and way we were arguing she said reminds her of Abbot and Costello. She said I bet you don't even know who they are. We both laughed and said Who's on first. The shocked look on her face was priceless.

I loved how they pulled you into the routine with them and made you feel in the argument!! Brilliant...
I also like how you compare them to Penn and Teller, who I'm positive, were influenced by them!!😎
Please react to some Monty python,"awkward walk"and "may I have some cheese" with John Cleese are hilarious!!👍👍👍
