Poor guy was just asking a question!
I'm sure Padme taught him later about all the hot and cold brew teas haha.
Fun fact; despite it being in my username, I am not a big tea drinker.
I prefer coffee, but iced tea is rather nice on a hot day.
As long as it's not too sweet, but that's just me.

I mean… Anakin is from a desert planet and water is rare and it’s already hot, Ashoka doesn’t have the patients wait or put the mug on the stove, Rex… is *Rex*, and Obi n Cody just wonder what is wrong with their friend group

    • @Victor-056
      @Victor-056 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +68

Rex is likely because his idea of a "Stove" means "The hottest side of a vehicle" or "The Heatsinks of a freshly fired heavy weapon", since an Open campfire is likely to attract enemy attention, and a stove is something he can only use on Coruscant.
Also, his Mug is likely the kind that retains heat for longer than the standard mug, there are specialized coffee mugs IRL that retain and conduct heat far better than the standard mug.
Cody would know what a kettle is because he hangs with Obi-Wan a lot, so he basically had to learn about proper tea making... Or Coffee making, depending on what you imagine him drinking.

    Three things:
    1) As an American, electric kettles are super convenient. I don't even drink tea, I just use it to help me make pasta or Ramen.
    2) I don't really get the snobbery regarding using microwaves to boil water. Hot water is hot water. The only large difference is the chance of superheating is higher with microwaves.
    3) Not all teas should be used with boiling water. Only black and herbal teas should be brewed with boiling water. Green, white, and oolong need to be 30-40°F/16-22°C below boiling for best brewing. Time is also another important factor. The water is like an oven. The temperature to bake cookies is different from the temperature to make a casserole. Temperatures undercook one thing can burn the other

Rex likely uses a heat-retaining mug as well, which actually conducts and retains heat pretty well like an actual kettle... Okay. To explain the tea consumption differences in america that i know of.
Southerners like their tea iced because it gets to be like 90+ degrees outside, maybe 70 on a cold day in the more northern parts of the south. Especially in Texas where the sidewalks can get so hot you can crack an egg open on the pavement and watch it cook.
Between the north and south where Missouri and such are, both cold and warm tea are consumed alternately depending on weather and personal preference.
And in the north, like Minnesota and such, people don't know how tea functions.
There ya go, thats the middle america’s tea consumption process.

I make a gallon of lipton tea at a time. I take 5 tea bags, put them in my measuring cup of unknown size full of water, microwave it for 5 minutes with the tea bags. While thats going, i take my actual tea container (jug that holds the tea between my microwaving the tea and putting it in my cup), put some amount of splenda into it with the measuring spoon i keep with my splenda, and wait for the microwave to be done. Once the microwave is done, i pour the tea into the tea container with the splenda, and fill it the rest of the way with water, putting the now full tea container in the fridge and throwing away the tea bags.
I would tell you how big everything is, except i dont know, and i also wouldnt tell you that was a lie

I mean… in a way Anakin is correct. It absorbs faster in the hot water. Same reason sweet tea is best when the sugar is put in while it’s hot even if you’re gonna drink it cold. One of those random things my brain decided to retain from grade school when learning about osmosis and solubility. So technically yes it would “speed up the tea-ification” regardless of what temperature you intend on drinking it at.

Induction stoves take a while to heat up. A gas stove is hot instantly. A lot of remarks make sense if you think in those terms.

Also kids please don't put mugs on stoves unless they're specifically made for it. Some of them can blow up if heated that way. And it doesn't even matter which kind of stove we're talking about. Same with the oven. Things are labelled "oven safe" for a reason.

Fun fact: While you CAN use Cold Water for the _Infusion_ process, it takes up to TWELVE HOURS at _Minimum_ to properly flavor the water.
Hot Water _Does_ speed up the Steeping process, but it can become troublesome if the herb used is sensitive to hot water and decays from the heat. This is why the method for Cold Water infusion is still remembered, though as it seems, not so widely known.
And I say "Infusion" because "Tea" is just the most easily remembered Herb used for the beverage. The actual name is "Infusion", and _any_ kind of herb can be used for the Steeping process.
Still, I can see why Rex would think making Tea requires "Putting Mug on source of heat". He is a Clone Trooper, he is expected to enter combat at the first sign of trouble, and that means every minute not spent in combat counts... And he may not even have access to a stove in some cases, so he would likely use something like say the hottest side of a vehicle to heat up his tea, or the heat sinks of a large weapon after it fires several shots.
...Still, I suspect Rex cheats a little by using a specialized mug designed to retain heat as much as possible, which would speed up the boiling process.
