@@Afc1987 Its a sense of entitlement. Playing for the national team and playing in the Premier League they feel that they should somehow be able to fast track past the gritty "dog years" as a Manager and jump right into Championship. That has been the story with Gerrard, Rooney, Roy Keane and Lampard. They all want to go the Xavi, Zidane and Pep route. Not understanding that these players actually did some real things in the U teams before getting their shot.

    Rooney vs Maresca:
Rooney mercurcial youth talent that lived up to most of the early hype but then sort stagnated but was still one of the best English players of his generation. Retired around 36-37 played less and less after struggling with injuries from 32 on wards. Immediately was promoted to Senior Management for the last team he played for second tier relegation side Derby. Failed at Derby, underwhelmed at DC United, Failed at Birmingham and Plymouth.
    Maresca
5 years older than Rooney was considered the last of Italy's declining number 10's star at U21 Level but couldn't really find his position in senior football. Became a stable first team regular for top-tier mid-table sides in Spain-Italy. Finished his career in early 2017 . Despite being a 10 and being thought of as creative intelligent player. Maresca didn't jump in at the deep end. He joined the coaching staff at Ascoli whilst getting his badges in Italy, Ascoli neither overwhelmed or underwhelemed. After getting the badges he at some point became more of a number 1 than number 2. Still mediocre results at best.
After 3 year of ok results he joins Manchester City reserves. Develops players like Palmer, Foden etc wins the Reseve League and cements City position as one of the best youth sides 2021. End of 2021 after back to back reserve league wins he joins SErie B team Parma who is still recovering from a adminstration and bankruptcy. Fails to get them promoted and get fired. He then jumps back into City becoming part of Pep backroom before taking the Leicester job and in the middle of a great re-build stabelise them and gets them promoted.
So in 2021 we have Maresca 5 years older with 5 years of backroom experience and Rooney with a shakey relegation at Derby. Still Rooney is talked about for roles in the Championship. When Maresca finally gets his role in the Championship in 2023 he overperformens. But comes with experience since retiring from football he has 1. Assistant Manager second tier side, first team manager second tier side, 2. Reserve team manager and back 2 back champion, 3. Fired on a failed promotion bid from second tier in Italy, 4. Part of record breaking backroom staff under Pep If Leicesrter would of considred let say Rooney in 2023 they would of taken a guy who has had scrappy but ultimatley failing attempts at staying in the Championship.
Did Rooney ever consider taking a coaching role at Man U reserves or at Everton?
Did Rooney after leaving Derby offer himselves to become part of a backroom team at let say a successful second tier side.
No he wanted to stay on as number 1

If we look at great players throughout the years, it is but a handful of them that have become great managers. I think it might be down to:
    1. Maybe they were not " team oriented " (as in "we have to instead of give me" outlook).
    2. Coaching is ALL ABOUT getting your points across as simply as possible and they might not have that "talent".
    3. Sometimes managers are trying to make the team do things that the squad is not capable of doing (Amorim at the moment) etc.
    Just my opinion though.

He took the job because that's the only club job in the UK that we're crazy enough to offer him the job. He was foolish in taking it as it was never going to end well and so his reputation as a manager is now even lower.
That being said, I still don't think he's cut out to be a manager regardless of who he manages.
He was absolutely awful at my club Birmingham City. He tried to run before he could walk. He took no responsibility for the mess that he caused. As a manager you need to play to the strengths of the squad that you have or at the very least play a way that minimises the weaknesses being exposed and he never did that at Blues.
I find him really boring to listen to, no motivational ability and very questionable man management it would seem.
I never wanted him at Blues in the first place, I'm just not a fan of Rooney the man himself and he did nothing in his time at Blues to change my mind about him. All he did was confirm what I already knew and thought and that is he's just not a very good manager and in my opinion a likeable character.
Plymouth were crazy to appoint him and Rooney was crazy to take the job. It was always destined to end the way that it has. Absolutely no surprise whatsoever.
I certainly won't be watching or listening to him when he appears on tv, radio or any social media.

Look at Klopp, Maresca, Thomas Frank, De Zerbi, Nagelsmann (half of them retiring from playing before reaching their 30s) All mediocre players that struggled to make it to the top flight. Had to fight to proove themselves as Managers and slowly advanced. Before getting a top level appointment. The fact he still wants to be involved in the game is credit to him really, to go to a club in crisis such as Plymouth, again gives him credit. We are talking about one of the greatest footballers to grace England . Don’t knock the man for trying to stay in the game he loves .

Speaking as a Birmingham fan this was far from Rooney’s gamble. Plymouth were the only side prepared to hope that Rooney might have some sort of clue as to how to manage a club and of course he took it. Surely now Wayne should just enjoy life and accept that he ain’t no manager. Nothing against him personally but at Birmingham he was an utter catastrophe in every sense. Can’t help thinking he may well get an offer down the line from some troubled club but hey let’s see!
