    Thats the best first-person-view recording of any in-car footage period. Perfect perspective, super smooth, sharp image quality. Car magazines around the world, watch and learn.

    Finally someone showed TH-cam how the Collision Warning looks/sounds like. You may want to mention that, so it can be found by searching. It looks like it's currently the only video on TH-cam that does shows it.

      Thanks for the Tip, I went ahead and updated the title as well as search terms.

    • @azalru
      @azalru 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      HighTechJoe But it says collision Avoidance , when you did the braking yourself. The title should be called collision warning, as the bmw i3 has collision avoidance where cars brakes itself and it isn't last minute like emergency braking.

      @dancingdirty7havananights230 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      azalru "the system bringing it self in full stop" the car stoped by itself, it was not only warning and braking by the user, it was by itself braking, then holding still until you press the acceleration pedal

    • @HighTechJoe
      @HighTechJoe  9 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      The car DID stop itself. I did not apply the brakes.

    I like how when you're going over the speed limit it informs you the speed limit to help you out preventing 90% of Tesla drivers from getting tickets

    people have to learn that the left lane is for people who want to drive fast and the right for people who are driving slower....

      +iamnotfalling huge problem in my area. Local law enforcement has supposedly started enforcing our laws requiring to get over, and issuing citations for obstructing traffic. I haven't noticed it make any difference though.

    • @michaelkagan5451
      @michaelkagan5451 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +iamnotfalling No, this only applies to speeds at or lower than the speed limit. It is against the law to drive at a low speed in the left lane. It is not against the law to drive at the speed limit (65 mph), blocking people from speeding in that lane. This is of course based on state law, however.

    Nice job demonstrating the features here. You should do another video now that the software is updated and the dash looks different.

    I currently have a 2011 C class Mercedes, and it has a 'speed limiter' function, enabled by pressing the cruise control button IN. The default speed limit for normal streets in Australia is 50Kph, so if I set it to that speed, the car will not (normally) allow me to accelerate past this speed, and will also apply the brakes when going down hill to keep the car from speeding. In emergency situations, flooring the gas pedal cancels the speed limiter, allowing you to potentially get out of a sticky situation.
    I am HOPING the Tesla also has this function (if not already, then with a future update) but also linking it to the speed sign recognition system. This would then virtually eliminate speeding tickets by not allowing the car to speed at any time. This would be a big improvement over what I just watched in your vid where the speed limit is displayed on screen for a few seconds, then disappears.
    I am not quite ready to order a Tesla yet (have to convince the wifey) :-(
    Thanks for the demo of adaptive cruise, it was most informative.
    I agree with another readers comment, it would be nice to test low speed collision avoidance as well. All the latest small cars seem to have this 'city stop' or whatever they call it, so Tesla should too.

    Are the trucks allowed to use the lanes in the middle in america? In Europe, at least where I live they go on the very right lane almost only and only for overtaking they go to the second lane from the right. Also in order to overtake drivers may use the left lane only in most of the cases. Only On busy roads and in the city you may overtake someone on the right. Interesting!. I really love Tesla! :) It's simply an amazing car.

    • @HighTechJoe
      @HighTechJoe  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Laws vary based on the road and the state. Trucks usually aren't allowed in the left lane, but different roads have posted signs which adjust the law.

    • @jagtan13
      @jagtan13 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Generaly trucks, for cargo transport, are discouraged to use the HOV (high occupancy vehicle) lane, in all other cases comercial vehicles are allowed in all other lanes here in California. The requirement for the hov lane is to have at least two or more adults, generaly, in the vehicle. Exceptions to the rule are people riding motorcycles and vehicles with aproved clean air stickers can use the hov lane as well with only the driver on board.

    Great video! How is driving a tesla in Utah? That's where I'm from so recognizing all the roads puts driving a tesla in better perspective instead of California like most other videos are from.

    • @HighTechJoe
      @HighTechJoe  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Cyrus Penrod It is great! The supercharger network is built out nicely in the state. It also handles the extreme road conditions we get (snow, rain) better than any other vehicle I've driven.

    So can you set the cruise control to adapt based on what reads the speed limit to be? I mean will it automaticaly adjust the cruise speed or does it just warn you and you have to adjust it.

    What happens if the car is going to hit a person, but by avoiding them it is set on a guaranteed collision course with a different person. How does the care "decide" which person to kill? Sure, it spares one person, but it objectively chooses to kill the other. Who is to be held responsible if the car takes away control from the driver and ends up killing someone because it saw no other option during execution of its collision avoidance algorithm?

    • @HighTechJoe
      @HighTechJoe  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the car detects a person in front of it, it stops, it doesn't swerve. Secondly, the car CANNOT take control away from you. Any input in brakes or steering input disables autopilot completely.

  • @enda0man
    @enda0man 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a question. Can the car stop itself to prevent a collision if cruise control is not on?

    • @HighTechJoe
      @HighTechJoe  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will apply the brakes without user intervention without cruise control enabled if it detects an impending collision.

    Do the rear brake lights activate when slowing down in cruise control?

    • @HighTechJoe
      @HighTechJoe  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since the regen braking is so strong, the brake lights work based off an accelerometer, regardless of TACC use.

    • @HighTechJoe
      @HighTechJoe  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since the regen braking is so strong, the brake lights work based off of an accelerometer, regardless of TACC use, so yes, the brake lights come on.

    Tesla is a great car but too expensive or they should offer a battery lease like Nissan. I think the Model 3 will be a best seller though because it should cost like under 30k!?

    • @theodorbutters141
      @theodorbutters141 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ElectricCarHomepage.com Starting at 35k...
      It'll be that cheap because of it'll be 30% smaller then the model S,will be produced in their new factory, and they'll probably use lower quality materials and a smaller battery (hopefully, not less then 200 miles range)

    • @HighTechJoe

      No. However, Tesla does source some parts from them, like the steering column. So the turn signal and cruise control stalks are the same as any Mercedes.

      HighTechJoe Brilliant! Some of the best point-of-view videos like this are pretty shaky, but this one is really smooth and comfortable to watch, even if it was distinctly uncomfortable for you to drive with a camera right up by your head! Nice work. Thanks for making this, too. I'd really been hoping someone would show off these features in a clear way.

      Wasted Uploadz Impossible not too at this point. So many people don’t know that it’s a law, which makes it dangerous to follow the left lane law. It is illegal in the US, but isn’t enforced except in Rhode Island. Extremely annoying.
