Question: Is there a mechanic in the game that punishes (or rewards?) player development for pushing a player along too quickly.... i.e. putting a young, newish player into AAA before they are ready or waiting too long to place a player into a higher level of the minors?
I would love to say that is NEVER the case however I have had some games where MLB Orgs promote people like Kumar Rocker or Jack Leiter way too early and it does look like that limits or really hurts the potential of the player. Now that could also have been just how my scout viewed their abilities since Favor Abilities which takes stats of the players current season in addition to their potential play down the road. Which doesn't give the player the best potential which Favor Tools gives. I would highly recommend listening to the AI and the Green/Red arrows in regards to when a player is ready to be advanced to the next stage of development.
And then there's the part of the game that throws everyone the curveball: Talent Change Randomness And it's just that, random. Like you said, sometimes there's just not much you can do... but equally some guys are just destined for greatness. It's a bit of magic the game reserves that actually makes it feel more realistic.
That's a great question. The answer is no. Otherwise you could just send all of your best prospects to R ball and watch them develop. Now you can have stats impact scouting reports under the game settings page but by default that is set to no. Player Development does not get impacted by their play during a season. Usually it's the otherway around. As a player develops their stats will reflect either regression or progress on their ratings. So usually a scout will simply need to update a player for how good their stats are looking. However that again isn't because of the stats but because the player has made developments and their stats simply reflect that. So technically if you throw a prospect into a really high minors too early they could still develop but just struggle along the way with their stats. One thing to note. A players chemistry will have an impact on the performance of the player and potentially their development so throwing someone in a position where they can only fail isn't the right call either. It's a fine balancing act of promoting players to where they are best pushed to perform better and continue developing but also knowing when to pull them back and give them a better matchup to recover from a rough year.
yes things like work ethic can make a difference on how reliably a prospect will develop. That's a great thing to watch out for and we probably will do a tutorial about that down the road.
Work Ethic and Intelligence are the two things that are generally accepted as being most important for prospects. Captains and Leaders (and overall good chemistry) at the lower levels also help.
Hey Alex -- a lot of times I will draft pitchers out of high school, and then they'll get immediately shelled in Rookie ball their first year as a pro. Is this just kind of a thing you fix by repeating them in the same level again? When they're 18-19 years old it's not like they'll be a bust immediately.
Can we get more information on personality profile stuff? I've been taught Work Ethic and Intelligence are important.. I get High/Low Leader & Greed I think.. Adaptability? I have theories but nothing that makes me feel good about things. Outspoken guy with high leadership and work ethic.. is that guy have different development trends? A guy moving positions or moving levels in the farm system with low or high adaptability take longer at different levels? I feel like this is the thing I make guesses on the MOST in this game. The rest of it I feel like I have decent to good understanding on. Love the videos by the way!
It’s unrealistic for prospects to be impacted much by big player development spending. The real life Rays are consistently excellent at developing young players and they don’t spend big money on anything. Unfortunately, the player development budget is just another way for OOTP to give the big market teams an advantage.
Actually I highly recommend not going above 30 Million into your player development. Once you get past that amount the improvement potential to your prospects is minimal at best. You won't really notice any improvement or better chances going from 30 up but going from 10 to 30 is where you will notice better chances for your prospects. So thankfully the game does have a limit on how much money becomes a P2W for your development system.
Good information! Thank you! 5 to 20 mill on the scouting budget too? Go Dbacks!
I've been wondering how to get my finance pitchers to be better
I caught that too. 😂

Great and informative video! Does a player having a good season impact their development?

Thanks for answering my question!
Great video! Does a player's personality (read: strong work ethic vs. bad work ethic) impact their development?

It would be nice if I could set the AI to manage the minor league promotion and demotions but with some parameters set for when to promote or demote.
