I have a model of that car I built many years ago, puts a smile on my face to hear it run. Its my understanding it won like 45 races in row with Dyno Don.
From Ford's glory years in pro stock!!! RIP to all the greats that raced these awesome cars when they were so competitive with the other brands!!! List way too long to list every one,but all of u r loved&missed!!!!!!!
@G hrvyck; Friends of mine were at the 1964 US Nationals. They watched Christman smoke the tires the full 1/4 mile. The car was the A/FX 1964 Mercury Comet. It was powered by the a blown, injected, nitro fueled high rise 427. Many people consider this the first Funny Car.
Super Ford '87 Got a T-shirt with Glidden and R Smith match racing their T-birds. Had them sign near their cars on the front and Dyno, H Platt, and I forget who the 3rd driver was at this time. But it was cool even though the cars that had their name on them didn't run original motors. But with 460 S C Jets and more modern suspension they were faster than in there day. 87 T-birds were my favorite race cars.
That Thing Has a AWESOME !! 70's Pro-Stock Stance Course I'm From That Era..Naturally I, Dig It Killer Lookin Ride Fur Sure !!!! Thanks for the Upload....
1973 at Englishtown summer nationals, Dyno Don did a wheelie and it came down hard and damaged the oil pan. By the next round, the oil pan had been replaced.
this is a beyond legendary awesome car with the beyond legendary invincible incomparable immortal king of all motors under neath the hood the mythical Godzilla fore breathing motor itself the beyond legendary iconic 427 Sohc cammer all hail the king
Just found this video and I'm glad to see the Maverick restored and running. Last time I saw it the car was on the hauler with a fist-sized hole in the block when Don was racing his Pinto against Sox & Martin in a match race at my home track in NC.
RWJ had her with origional paint that clearly showed it's age,,thats new paint . I recall the sheet~metal to touch flexed like cardboard from the acid dipping.
Just out of curiosity were they not allowed to narrow rear ends back then? The car looks a little goofy with the tires extending well outside the fender lips.
This is GREAT but my favorite Maverick was Gapp and Roush 4 door Pro stock. Kinda like a Dodge Charger today. Race cars ain't 4 drs. Now Chargers are the best cop cars.
Dyno Don When did Dyno Don Nicholson build this race car, did he race this through part of the 1960s and 1970s and then sell it. I know he raced his Mercury Comet and then the Station Wagon and won a lot of races, was the Maverick the last car he raced.?
@G hrvyck Thanks for the information on Don Nicholson's racing career . I hope their is enough interest in the the Classic Big Blocks and drag racing to keep this part of our culture with us.
@G hrvyck Appreciate you sharing your time and friendship you had with Don Nicholson and his race team. You built a great Big Block screamer yourself which took a lot of work and dedication to get that 1957 Ford to run as well as it does. You know 1957 Chevrolets are famous themselves so that makes your Ford even stand out more--good racing.
Ford is really missing a marketing opportunity right now they really need to put a title on a 351 motor a push rod 351 Cleveland right now that's what needs to show up in the next mustang their sales will go through the roof
Charleston Illinois Charleston 8th mile drag strip exhibition night Dyno Don Grabber Maverick 427 single overhead cam Pro Stock vs Sox and Martin 426 Hemi Pro Stock Dodge swinger these cars turned low fives in the Eighth Mile
I doubt it’s a cammer because I think they would have shown it because it’s so rare and the car has an automatic transmission in it. Nobody can just idle way with a 427 cammer or a 426 race Hemi that smoothly, those kind of cars don’t drive like that.
@@Mick_A_Knucklemaybe when it came up for sale but that car as is it idled around clearly was an automatic transmission and Don Nicholson NEVER raced a car in that era that didn’t have a manual transmission. One of the most underrated cars for street / strip,,,,loved the Grabber edition

I just sold a model of this car that my brother built back in the 80's. Got $55 for it. People love that beast!
I like jumping Joe Maverick too that was a jumping cat
Looking at this in 2021..but does it got back up camera and safety sincere on front back mirrors beeps....🤔

It gives me goose bumps hearing that beautiful Maverick start up. My favorite all time race car is this Dyno Don Nicholson's Maverick.
Same here! Watched this for the first time yesterday and had goosebumps, chills on my neck and tears in my eyes. This car is so awesome!
I like the Maverick, but my favorite is the 1965 Cammer Comet !!

By far one of the most badass pro-stock cars that were ever built.
Dyno Don once stated that this was his favorite drag racing car.
Oh, crap- that sounds good!! I want my ‘70 baaaaaaack!😭
Seven years ago !! I wonder where it is now, does it go to shows ? Vintage Drag Racing ?
always thought Mavericks were under utilized as drag cars. Light weight and somewhat aerodynamic!
We saw this car run a wed night match race at Cayuga Dragstrip in Ontario. My Brother has a time slip signed by Dyno Don from the race....
