French Press Coffee without a PhD

  • If you want to make a perfect cup of coffee at home use a French press. Coffee at a coffee shop can be hit or miss (lots of misses). The keys to making a great cup of coffee are using freshly ground beans and water that's hot, but not too hot. The ratio of beans to water is subjective to taste, find what's right for you--there is no wrong way! And experiment with different beans; where the beans are from and how they are roasted can make a HUGE difference...sample grinding different beans to find what makes you happy.
    Over the years I've made coffee every which way there is to make coffee, and using a French press is the easiest, quickest, and most reliable way to brew the perfect cup.
    Check current pricing on Amazon for a French Press like the one we use in this video amzn.to/2P2RiyN

    How To Make French Press Coffee:
    Measure your water and bring it to a boil.
    Coarsely grind coffee beans and add to the pot (use whatever ratio of beans to water YOU PREFER...I like strong coffee, and use a ratio of 1 Tbsp whole beans for every 4 oz. of water)
    Once water boils, set aside uncovered 1 minute to cool. You don't want to use boiling water...in one minute it will be just right.
    After one minute, pour water over beans.
    Stir.
    Cover and let brew for 4 minutes.
    After 4 minutes, slowly plunge the filter through the coffee.
    Pour and drink and enjoy.
    That's all there is to great coffee. Keep it simple.

    excellent, just plain down to earth instructions. If I might make 1 suggestion: Don't use a metal spoon when stirring the grounds in the hot carafe. The metal on glass can crack it. I speak from experience. I use a long plastic milk shake spoon now. Again, thanks.

    So how many cups of coffee (measuring by an actual coffee cup) did you get? It looks like you got about 4 cups, 2 cups each? My wife and I are using a drip coffee maker and grind our own store-bought beans. We drink two or 3 cups each out of a 10-"cup" pot, but she uses a large mug while I use regular sized coffee mugs. We bought ourselves a burr grinder for Christmas. Before that we had a blade grinder similar to yours. The grind DOES make a difference, we noticed that right away! Overall, a good video for those wondering about how to use a French Press, and just want a good cup of regular Joe w/o all the snobby bs of coffee connoisseurs.

    My kuerig quit on me today. I have one of these I bought years ago that I just hucked in the back of my cupboards. I have adhd and that's just the kind of thing we do. I used it today tore open a couple McDonald's kcups. Omg it was a really good cup of coffee. I didn't even follow the four minutes or wait for the water to cool. The coffee was slightly fine. Cream made it smooth palatable and good. I can't wait to try this with full beans ground in my magic bullet. You saved me a ton of money on a new coffee maker lol. Shit I have all this free space on my counter top. Bye bye kuerig.... I think this would be good for loose green tea too.

    I had a french press. But then i had a revelation. Why not just stir it up in the pitcher then pour it through a filter and skip the plunge? And awsome. no grit. just brewed delicious clean coffee. I let it sit 5 minutes just because i'm strange that way.

    • @chrisearls1866
      @chrisearls1866 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use the fine mesh metal filter that comes standard with most drip coffee makers and pour through it into my coffee cup. If there's any grit the filter will catch it, and all you gotta do after is run water through it to clean it out. You don't even have to waste a paper filter.

    • @sclogse1

      Stays hotter in the French press. You want that last cup hot.

    • @Your-BestNightmare
      @Your-BestNightmare 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Might as well just brew via pour-over at this point. I know, in my college days and in a pinch, I just stuff a coffee filter on top of my coffee thermos, toss grounds in filter, then slowly pour just boiled water over the grounds so it drips into the cup. Takes a few extra minutes but least messy method without a brewer. (and coffee tastes good this route too). Plus, introducing a paper filter does mess with some of the coffee bean oils you get from French pressing

    oh yes even Nescafe gets a better taste if you prepare it that way!
    hahaha, but slightly more serious: Chef Buck, did You ever taste true French coffee, means beans cum chicory blended?
    No joke - I know it may sound to many like a sacrilege to mix this amazing and precious hand selected and individually roasted and hand ground fair trade coffee beans from that special garden in El Salvador with the roasted roots of any ordinary flowers ... but the taste is great - soft, smooth, no bitterness nor oily taste ...

    I heat my water in the microwave just under 3 minutes in my coffee mug. I use about 4 tablespoons of decaf coffee ( I'm caffeine sensitive btw). While the water and grounds are brewing in the press, I microwave the creamer in my mug for 30 seconds. ******@@@And BOOM! Easy way to make coffee.
    I would love to find some whole bean decaffeinated coffee, But I'll have to order it online one day as I can't find them at any stores.
    One thing tho, shake and pulsate the blade grinder when grinding. It will help make it a little more even.

    I use fine coffee in my French press. It's not a big deal. You just get a lil of the fines resin at the very back end of your cup. Best example when you use a metal filter instead of a paper filter. Trust me it doesn't ruin your coffee. In fact that's why some people use the metal filters cause they like a lil fines resin. Mine comes out fine..

    great video, lol. love the humor. spot on. I just got a French press but don't have whole beans yet so I used some bagged stuff. It turned out a lil bitter for me after only 3 mins so I think the suggested ratio might be a little to much. 1 rounded tablespoon per 4oz but that's for already ground. You are saying the same ratio but with whole beans which obviously wont convert to 1tbsp of ground.

    Kawę robię w ten sposób : Na 200ml gorącej wody daję 10 g kawy i parzę ją 35 sekund, następnie przelewam przez sito i jest gotowa do picia. Wtedy nie jest gorzka i kwaśna.
    Wypróbuję Twój pomysł na parzenie kawy.

    First! Have you tried an English press? Better tasting with a British accent. Cheers

    don't forget, the beans dont matter, its the cup size that matters, smaller cup = better coffee. Got it.
