  • Jermaine Dupri Mauldin is an American rapper, songwriter, record producer, entrepreneur, and DJ.
In 1997, Dupri co-wrote and produced several tracks on Usher's second album, My Way. The lead single, "You Make Me Wanna", reached number-one on the Rhythmic Top 40 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart.
The follow up single "Nice & Slow" went to number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart, and the last single, "My Way" peaked at number-two on Billboard Hot 100. All three singles have been certified Platinum by Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
A featured guest on the album, Monica, would also later become a protégé of Dupri, with her second album, The Boy Is Mine, dropping in July of that year. Dupri produced the single of the album "The First Night", which peaked atop the U.S. Billboard charts, with the album receiving the triple platinum certification and universal acclaim.

No, it doesn't explain anything. I've owned a MPC60 II & 3000. It's the Rodger Linn software and the 16 bit converters that gives it its unique characteristics. This is why the MPC'S after those models didn't have Linn's signature and sound. They are Akai's but not a Rodger Linn akai. NOW YOU KNOW

This is why I encourage everyone to READ the credits, to watch how things really work in the studio, etc.
I’m 34, I was 5 in 1994 reading the credits (reading the best I could btw 😂) and I noticed familiar names as I continued to read, that made me dig into who each person was and thankfully my older cousins heavily into music, so they’d help guide me.
This new era needs to really get back into reading more and studying the HISTORY of things because that’s how we’ll continue to move forward the right way.

Fuck the scrutiny. Asking if you have any new hits or understanding of new tech is tantamount to asking Michaelangelo what he has done lately. Art is not time limited. You don’t have to make another hit. You’ve got plenty that will outlast your physical body. Those asking will not be in history books. That is all.

Attention: it ain't the equipment it's what's in you.
You can only make what you feel and what you can hear.
You can have the greatest MPC ever made, but you don't how to make music, and understand sound, sonics, and frequency, it means nothing, nothing, nothing
JD been doing this for like 30 years, and he is a hall of fame songwriter, one of prolific producers of the last quarter of century.

I started with the SP1200 then the KN1000 to the old Atari then Reasons 3.0 and 5.0. I went back to school and they trained me with Pro Tools and Logic Pro X. I hate it. I've been stuck with Logic every since for 11 years and cannot get anywhere near I was with the KN1000 or Reasons 5.0. I was A God with Reasons 5.0. And it's hard for me to get that gear software and environment back. Everything has changed and sounds so dumb down and completely thin. Platforms don't help either cause they compress the hell out of you now. I recently produced a song called Freedom for PG13 and I had to work hard to get it to sound...
Reason 5.0 was so much better sounding than what they or Apple offers today. Stock out the Box. I completely understand what Jermaine is saying and I'm glad he said it. Stick to what makes you great. It doesn't matter how you come to it as long as you Master your motives and are crushing the competition in a good and Inspiring way. Please always inspire others by taking the time to be the best you that you can be. It's embarrassing at times but it adds up.

Usually you would programm the beat in a very raw edit, export all tracks to audio formats, import them to a computer, lay the vocals over it and put everything in the right mix.
