Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, everything with Dio, Thin Lizzy, Savatage, Accept, The Cardigans, early Talking Heads, Uriah Heep, Rolling Stones (especially Mick Taylor era), UFO, MSG

Hi Ben another great subject and a video i had to share on my Facebook group. i saw machine head at Donington in 1994 i think and they was awesome . They had to be mentioned in my top ten as they are one of the greats of all time
Great list mate, good to see someone giving hardcore some love😁✊I'd go with Sick Of It All, Faith No More, Minor Threat, Poison Idea, Melvins, Slayer, Motorhead, Terror, Clutch & Agnostic Front.
Man id struggle to do a list of just ten. But, id be intrigued to hear a list of ten bands youve discovered in the last ten years. As a fellow ageing chap it actually really excites me how much good stuff there is coming out in the last few years
That is not a bad idea for a video. I will have a think about that. You are right about lots of great new music. I can't understand people who say there is no good music anymore. Seems like they have just stopped looking
@@ThatMetalBloke totally baffled when people say that. I mean in the last ten years I've gotten into such a wide variety of bands that I really don't go looking for any one genre anymore, I'm just looking for something exciting, and there's so much of that now whether it's Brutus, Blood Incantation, End It, Royal Thunder, Caspian, there's an absolute feast of rad music out there you just gotta dig a bit for it, which maybe comes a bit easier to some oldies who were used to having to dig for new music anyways haha
I can appreciate bands that change it up often. That's what makes King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard interesting to me. Mastodon are also one of my favorite metal bands right now and have been since Blood Mountain, along with Gojira who I actually just got into last year. I now have all their cd's and saw them live this year.
I don't know if it's hipster to like lesser known bands but my top 10 rock/metal: My Dying Bride Rotting Christ Villagers of Ioanna City Summoning Sodom Samael Inquisition Blut Aus Nord Agalloch Abzu If it were a top 25, well-known bands like Queen, The Doors, INXS, Type O Negative and Judas Priest would be there.
A solid list overall. Always great to meet a fellow Type O Negative fan.. I will admit Dead Again took a few listens but now I fully enjoy it. Picking 10 Favourite bands is pretty tough as if you asked me again next week some of these might change but for now. 01. Dream Theater. 02. Type O Negative. 03. Alice in Chains. 04. Emperor. 05. Opeth. 06. Fear Factory. 07. Pantera. 08. Strapping Young Lad. 09. Nine Inch Nails. 10. A Perfect Circle. But yeah, trying to stick to 10 is tough as there are many more I Love. Anyway, enjoy your lists. Great stuff.
Great list overall, all of those bands are badasses in their own ways. Devin Townsend is a prolific artist! SYL was such an incredible band and his solo stuff is brilliant as well. Mastodon is a collection of fantastic musicians and Leviathan is on my shortlist of favorite albums. It was my introduction to the band and you can always make arguments for their later records being better, but Leviathan is what got me hooked and maintains that special place for me. You’d have to be stone cold crazy not to have Queen in your permanent playlist. Machine Head is an amazing band! The Blackening is basically a perfect album, not one bad song on it. Rob Flynn can sometimes be a knob but who can’t? He’s a great song writer, some of the best tracks on the Roadrunner United album were penned by him. He’s also a true Metal, and really music in general, fan. RIP Peter Steele, a man large of stature but a giant in his presence! Type O Negative was one of those bands that just stood out.
Candlemass , Fear factory , slayer , no doubt , slipknot , mudvayne , carcass, sepultura, suicidal tendencies, hatebreed but if I’m honest there’s still like another ten bands that come to mind
Had to make it at least 15. Here's my list (not in order): - Black Sabbath, - Judas Priest, - Rainbow, - Motörhead, - Accept, - Saxon, - Iron Maiden, - Diamond Head, - Angel Witch, - Venom, - Mercyful Fate, - Metallica - Metal Church, - Flotsam & Jetsam, - Megadeth.
Primordial Rush Rory Gallagher Thin Lizzy Darkthrone Neurosis My Dying Bride Aura Noir Bolt Thrower Judas Priest Akercocke Depeche Mode The Cure Fields of the Nephilim NiN Mastodon Not in any order just some bands i adore covering all genres i listen to.
Great list, thank you ❣️ Mine looks like this at this moment : Frank Zappa , Black Sabbath , Tool , Devin Townsend , Steven Wilson , Soundgarden , Unleash the Archers, Metallica , Mastodon , Steve Vai ..✨🎶🎸
Ten Rock/Metal bands I'd name, some are older, some more obscure: Opeth, Bølzer, Summoning, Mesarthim, Katatonia, Ulver, Burzum, Bethlehem, Triptykon, Emperor! Honourable mention (and kind of cheating): Steven Wilson
I love seeing Machine Head getting the love they deserve; I got into them early last year and just got instantly hooked. They have easily been placed in my top 5.
Carcass ( just saw em on tour for first time) Better Lovers. Fit for an Autopsy. Dying Wish. Heriot. Sylosis. Whitechapel. Shadow of Intent. Harms way. And the new Counterparts ep is great. I’m almost 48 outta Cleveland
Great list, interested to hear your hipster picks. Sabbath, The Stooges, Carcass, Cannibal Corpse and The Fall were the first five that came to mind for me. Take your pick from Priest, Maiden, Death, Opeth and Mastodon plus a thousand others to round out my top ten
Can't disagree with someone's list. Even if we are in the internets. Had to, however, come up with a list of my own. Never thought about doing it, didn't even know if I can get 10 bands in it. I mean I do listen to a lot of music and different bands, but I think we are looking for those special bands. -Pantera -Meshuggah -Guano Apes -Alice In Chains -Queens Of The Stone Age -Deftones -Fear Factory -Nightwish -Behemoth -Jinjer
Iron Maiden Queen Deep Purple Judas Priest CCR Black Sabbath Metallica Fleetwood Mac The Beatles AC⚡️DC Honourable mentions - Pantera, Megadeth, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, and Pink Floyd
Napalm is phenomenal. Fear, Emptiness, Despair was also the first album of ND that I onwed, although my first encounter with them was Harmony Corruption ( I borrowed a casette from my schoolmate's elder brother). They are so diverse musically - mix of punk, detah metal, groove metal, hardcore (label "grindcore" is too limiting IMO). They always had interesting riffs and meaningful, socially engaged lyrics, and Barney is one of the best growling voices in metal music.
Epica, Alcest, Cradle of Filth, Panopticon, Vemod, Ahab, Draconian, Trees of Eternity, Djevel, Rhapsody, Wolves In The throne Room, Mgla, Nile, Lovebites, Melechesh, Opeth, Dying Fetus, Obsequiae, Cannibal Corpse, Spectral Voice, Spiritbox,
Talking of great punk bands, I've always been a huge Misfits fan. Their album Famous Monsters has always been a favourite of mine, and its hard to go wrong with anything Glenn Danzig.
I almost feel a little pretentious with my love for Type O at times, but it’s good to know other people are out there who fully understand just how uniquely special that band is.
I for one would love a wanky hipster list Also my 10 (more recognisable list) Therapy, Clutch, Metallica, Breaking Benjamin, Type-O, Devin, Porcupine Tree, Biohazard, Flogging Molly and Enya (unironically, she’s a beast)
Machine Head - The Blackening is an absolute masterpiece. Every single track is phenomenal. Honestly, I was more excited to see them than Metallica when they toured together. They consistently deliver incredible shows. Machine Head are brilliant! 🤘
I also saw them with Metallica but the sound was atrocious unfortunately. Seen them many other times though and they sounded amazing. Never tire of that band
I'm going to strech the definition of metal a bit for my list 😂 Kardashev Oh Hiroshima Volbeat Sabaton Northlane White Ward Show me a dinosaur (yes, it's an actual band) Coma (a Polish band) This Will Destroy You Queen
Another great vid mate loving the content. Have you checked out Neon Nightmare ‘Faded Dream’? It’s Nate Garrett of Spirit Adrifts love letter to Pete Steele and Type O. Worth a spin. I’m waiting patiently by my front door for the vinyl copy to arrive 👍🏻
Good too see Minor Threat And Sick of it All get some love in a mostly Metal Category of bands you love,Same with Napalm Death,Carcass and of course Type O Negative.
Fantastic to hear you defending the mighty machine head against the elitist mob!! Their awesome burn my eyes, the blackening n unto the locust are masterpieces. 10 bands I adore Metallica Mastodon Dream Theater Machine head Opeth Sepultura Gojira Faith no more Rage against the machine Slayer
Awesome channel. Your music journey is exactly the same as mine. Did you used to watch raw power back in the day with krusher on? Thats how i found so much music back then before i got sky tv and headbangers ball 🤟
Napalm Death' last 6 albums are their best IMO. Only one's that come close to breaking into that top 6 are Harmony Corruption and Utopia Banished. The first 2 are their most overrated. Most likely because of how influential they are. They're still awesome but to say they didn't get better after those two albums is crazy.
Totally agree. They have continued to push boundaries and experiment and incorporate different sounds into their music and make something truly unique.
It's not all metal in mine as I pretty much left the genre for a long time before coming back in recent years. Black Sabbath Metallica Anthrax Fear Factory Sepultura PJ Harvey (Did start as a band so she's going in) Manic Street Preachers Therapy? Wu Tang Clan Stiff Little Fingers
Yes my dude: Great list my friend. Here’s mine, there’s probably a lack of metal acts on here. I’ve never been into extreme metal genres, can’t dig those harsh vocals I’m afraid. Also, I’m late 40’s now and something’s changed in my taste, I’ve mellowed let’s say. Still love the metal bands I just don’t listen to them much anymore. However, I know you’re cool enough to accept my list even though this is a metal channel: 01 - Mark Lanegan 02 - Mark Lanegan Band 03 - Queens of the Stone Age 04 - The Kills 05 - Therapy? 06 - Black Sabbath 07 - High on Fire 08 - Depeche Mode 09 - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club 10 - Duke Garwood Also, I’d love you to do a hipster wanker video 🤣
A lot of great bands there mate. Therapy? are amazing and I don't hear to many people talk about them nowadays. High On Fire, Sabbath and Depeche Mode are also big bands for me as well
Love lot of garage rock, southern rock, rockabilly, blues rock, all type of metal, all type of punk, grunge, goth/dark, indie rock, brit pop, psychobilly bands and also old school hip hop, blues artist... 👍
Best of them: Iggy and The Stooges, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Hillbilly Moon Explosion, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden (love Paul Di'Anno albums,HM bible for me), The Exploited, Nirvana (first album,Bleach), Fields of The Nephilim, Arctic Monkeys, Oasis, Demented Are Go, Ice-T, B,B. King...
Always been curious where you'd rank a group like Babymetal tbh, purely from a music point of view. I've loved them since around early 2013, and even if there's those who aren't a fan of the music, I'm sure they can at least appreciate they may bring some people into metal music who otherwise wouldn't have touched it. As for my picks, Rammstein & Dir En Grey both at no. 1 for me. I'd have the likes of Electric Callboy, Emmure, Lamb of God, Killing Joke, Incubus, A Perfect Circle (& Tool), Bring Me The Horizon (inc. early stuff), Ice Nine Kills
My top ten list starts and it ends with Tool. I'd like to hear the bloke's opinion on Tool. I love old Metallica, but they might as well be the Taylor Swift if metal at this point.
So many great bands there, bring on the pretentious hipster wanker list please 🧐 I'll throw in Elder, Earthless, King Buffalo, Sergeant Thunderhoof and Igorrr as newer bands (to me at least) that show how much amazing music is still being created. Oh, and Blood Incantation's Absolute Elsewhere is a belter 🔥
motorhead, slayer, metallica, w.a.s.p, bauhaus, eisturzende neubauten, the cure, swans, the dogs d'amour, nails. Those are the 10 most accessible and non wanky bands I love. You should do a 10 underground/obscure bands list so that I can do one too.
Great to hear so much deserved praise for Carcass!!
Incredible band
Entombed, Slayer, danzig, Misfits, T.O.N. , Queensryche, Sisters of Mercy, the Cult, Opeth, Testament
All great bands 🤘
The Doors, Queen, Type O Negative, Danzig, Cradle of Filth, Sisters of Mercy, Atrocity, Metallica,Black Sabbath, Six Feet Under, Green Day
Some great bands there 🤘
Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, everything with Dio, Thin Lizzy, Savatage, Accept, The Cardigans, early Talking Heads, Uriah Heep, Rolling Stones (especially Mick Taylor era), UFO, MSG
10/10 for that editing after 'ended on a bad note' and holding it on the stank face 🤣
Ironically that's the face I tend to pull when I'm listening to something a really like 😆🤘
Type O are awesome. If you disagree - you’re wrong.
Agreed 🤘
Shinedown,Reveille,Van Halen,Flaw,Alice In Chains,A7X,Gojira,Motionless In White,Killswitch, and Post Malone are probably my top 10 artists

Sepultura (Max/Igor) and Hatebreed are up there for me as well. Incredible music
Talking of great punk bands, I've always been a huge Misfits fan.
Their album Famous Monsters has always been a favourite of mine, and its hard to go wrong with anything Glenn Danzig.
Misfits are an amazing band. So catchy and so influential
@@ThatMetalBloke indeed they are, legendary stuff
I almost feel a little pretentious with my love for Type O at times, but it’s good to know other people are out there who fully understand just how uniquely special that band is.
They seem to get better for me every year for some reason. Incredible band
SOIA & Queen on one list. Wow... that's the story of my life.
That's how I roll 🤘
I for one would love a wanky hipster list
Also my 10 (more recognisable list)
Therapy, Clutch, Metallica, Breaking Benjamin, Type-O, Devin, Porcupine Tree, Biohazard, Flogging Molly and Enya (unironically, she’s a beast)
I will get to work on a hipster list soon.
Great bands on your list as well
Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Fear Factory,Carcass, Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse,Dyscarnate,Slayer,Gojira and Metallica
Fear Factory, Cannibal and Immolation are all top contenders for me as well. Think I will do some genre Top 10 lists so that I can mention them all
Machine Head - The Blackening is an absolute masterpiece.
I'm going to strech the definition of metal a bit for my list 😂
Kardashev
Oh Hiroshima
Volbeat
Sabaton
Northlane
White Ward
Show me a dinosaur (yes, it's an actual band)
Coma (a Polish band)
This Will Destroy You
Queen
Honourable mention - Breaking Benjamin

Helmet, Metallica, Alice Cooper, Queen, Chris Cornell, Slayer, Ennio Morricone, Dead Sara, AC/DC, Cypress Hill/Beastie boys

I haven't yet but I watched his latest video on 'Top albums of 2024' earlier today and saw that that was on the list. I will have to check it out
Aside from Mastodon and Machine Head, pretty solid list. Glad to know you dig some hardcore punk aswell, but my favorite would be GBH
I could have mentioned a ton of hardcore bands but those 2 mean a lot to me. I will do a top 10 hardcore band list soon
@@ThatMetalBloke That would be cool, exposing your audience to hc and punk. It seems like metalheads have distanced themselves from it nowadays.
Good too see Minor Threat And Sick of it All get some love in a mostly Metal Category of bands you love,Same with Napalm Death,Carcass and of course Type O Negative.
Hardcore is one of my favourite genres of music. I will be doing a top 10 list for hardcore bands soon
Fantastic to hear you defending the mighty machine head against the elitist mob!! Their awesome burn my eyes, the blackening n unto the locust are masterpieces.
10 bands I adore

Awesome channel. Your music journey is exactly the same as mine. Did you used to watch raw power back in the day with krusher on? Thats how i found so much music back then before i got sky tv and headbangers ball 🤟
I did indeed 🤣 Krusher was my main source of info back in the day
Death, Pantera, Nevermore, Sepultura, Beastie Boys, The Meteors, Misfits, Entombed, Iron Butterfly, Fred Neil...
Great picks 🤘
Napalm Death' last 6 albums are their best IMO. Only one's that come close to breaking into that top 6 are Harmony Corruption and Utopia Banished. The first 2 are their most overrated. Most likely because of how influential they are. They're still awesome but to say they didn't get better after those two albums is crazy.
Totally agree. They have continued to push boundaries and experiment and incorporate different sounds into their music and make something truly unique.
Enjoyable video, great list, and I'm all for you doing an 'I'm a pretentious prick, here's 10 bands you've never heard of, but I like' video! 😅
Cheers mate. I will work on my pretentious list and have it out soon
It's not all metal in mine as I pretty much left the genre for a long time before coming back in recent years.
Black Sabbath
Metallica
Anthrax
Fear Factory
Sepultura
PJ Harvey (Did start as a band so she's going in)
Manic Street Preachers
Therapy?
Wu Tang Clan
Stiff Little Fingers
I also love PJ Harvey, Wu Tang and some Manics
Korn, Slayer, Ministry, Meshuggah, SOAD, Sepultura, Testament, Pantera, Katatonia, Garbage
Great bands 🤘
The first few Sepulturas are amazing
@@Miniduck9013 till Roots, they are god tier, imo
@ yep same that’s probably where I stop loving them as well
Good list man! I’d like to you see rank Machine Head albums
I can guarantee I will do that at some point 🤘
I feel a kinship here. It’s like a slightly older, kinda sorta grouchy brother an ocean away.
That means a lot. Glad you are digging the videos 🤘
Carcass are fucking awesome.
Indeed they are
Yes my dude:
Great list my friend. However, I know you’re cool enough to accept my list even though this is a metal channel:
01 - Mark Lanegan
02 - Mark Lanegan Band
03 - Queens of the Stone Age
04 - The Kills
05 - Therapy?
06 - Black Sabbath
07 - High on Fire
08 - Depeche Mode
09 - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
10 - Duke Garwood
Also, I’d love you to do a hipster wanker video 🤣
A lot of great bands there mate. Therapy? are amazing and I don't hear to many people talk about them nowadays. High On Fire, Sabbath and Depeche Mode are also big bands for me as well
@ yes mate. You turned me onto High on Fire for which I am very grateful.
Btw - heard the latest Melvins album Tarantula Heart. I think it’s awesome.
@@Andy-m6j I haven't heard the new Melvins yet but I did check out the new Underworld. Fantastic album

Bolt Thrower, Death, Carcass, Kreator, Megadeth, Sodom, Slayer, Nile, Cryptopsy, and last but not least… CCR.
Incredible list 🤘
I love Machine Head too brother. 💯 agree with you.
Amazing band 🤘
I have enjoyed some of Babymetal but I can't say I go out of my way to listen to it. I certainly don't have anything against them that's for sure
Killing joke, iron maiden, opeth, final coil, katatonia, ministry, pain, heilung, the young gods, electric callboy
Great bands 🤘
My top ten list starts and it ends with Tool. I'd like to hear the bloke's opinion on Tool. I love old Metallica, but they might as well be the Taylor Swift if metal at this point.
I am a big fan of Tool but they are not one of my all time favourites. Incredible band though and Danny Carey is a beast
In no particular order:
Metallica
Guns N Roses
Nirvana
Alice In Chains
Soundgarden
Pearl Jam
Biffy Clyro
Queen
Katatonia
Chevelle
Incredible bands 🤘
Dude you love sick of it all,and do you like cro-mags, agnostic front, madball, h2o, biohazard, etc..?
I love all of the bands that you mention. I am going to be doing my top 10 hardcore bands list soon
Metallica got a lot of peeps into rock they are amazing
Agreed. Incredible band
Great list. I will get to work on my pretentious list soon
I saw Napalm Death live around 20 years ago and lost around 40% of my hearing 😂

Try as I might i just can't get into type o negative
I like a few songs but just can't sit through a full album
Fair enough. That is how I feel about Anthrax. I want to like them but I just can't get into them
I couldn't really get in to Napalm death, I honestly tried but it's a bit too abrasive.
Fair enough mate. That is the exact reason why I love them so much
Agalloch
Great band
motorhead, slayer, metallica, w.a.s.p, bauhaus, eisturzende neubauten, the cure, swans, the dogs d'amour, nails.
Those are the 10 most accessible and non wanky bands I love. You should do a 10 underground/obscure bands list so that I can do one too.
Great list. I am a big fan of all those bands as well.
I will do a more obscure list soon. Should be a fun one
Right Said Fred Fred
The Osmonds
The Partridge Family
Liberace
Barney the Dinosaur 😘
Give us the pretentious video.
I will get to work on that. I think it will be a fun one
