I'm a Riley before marriage so must have been 😂 My grandparents also loved going to Ireland. Something I've still not had the pleasure of after 16 years of marriage to my amazing patient husband . After a hard few years of loosing myself and nearly my marriage I'm looking forward to that pleasure very soon Thankyou for this type of music that reminds my heart and head what really matters 💚

For those unfamiliar with the "Holy Ground", you might not realize that this song is not about a poor love-sick sailor bidding farewell to his true love, and the holy ground is not precisely Ireland. In the old sailing ship days there was a southern seaport in Ireland name Queenstown (now renamed Cobh, County Cork). In Queenstown was a notorious red-light district called...you guessed it, "The Holy Ground". It is to that famous old entity and the soiled doves abiding therein to which the song refers. Now that's a sailor song.
