Not going to lie watching Wicked City was like witnessing childbirth for the first time: A horrifically disgusting yet strangely beautiful process ^^

I like this anime unironically. It actually stands out more when compared with the strictly formulaic anime nowadays. Plus, the noir atmosphere is fantastic. My one big change is I would have had Taki and Maki be Black Guard partners for a longer time.
The dub is surprisingly good.

I just watched Wicked City and enjoyed the hell out of it.
Yeah but this was from that very special time in the late 80s early 90s when "Japanimation" was being sold purely on the fact it was ultra violent. Does anyone else remember those commercials from Urban Vision they had on at like 3am that were nothing but a rapid fire series of bloodsprays and monster mutations and teasing fanservice shots? That was what it was all about.
I love "STUPIDLY POWERFUL RECOIL GUN." It seems really comedic.
Believe it not, there was another one in the Angel Cop anime.
I like all of Yoshiaki Kawajiri's movies. Especially Wicked City and Demon City Shinjuku.

Wicked City was dubbed distributed by Streamline Pictures and Orion videos originally. Urban vision bought the distribution right in North America when Carl Macek died.

JUST FUCKING WASN'T ENOUGH. of course "the power of love" is over the top and silly but 1. this is a silly fun movie and 2. that wasn't his criticism at all.

the old guy explained why he didn't tell them 'just fuck and be done with it'; it was a ritualistic thing where they had to build a spiritual connection by falling in love. just having sex would not have worked. he completely skipped this & said "I WANTED to like this but this plot hole was too much!"
ok but leaving out info and lying arent the same thing, and in either case the point still stands that telling them they where gonna have to be together is far less convoluted

In terms of style, it's a great horror anime, generous in cheese and cool. Alas, the flaws presented in this video (like the asspulls) drag it down. More care put into the plotline instead of sex shock factor would have made this a B-list classic of the genre. Still, it's very good to me.
what asspull? have you even seen Wicked City? Bennett guy LIED through his teeth about the story to imply there was a plot hole where there absolutely wasn't one. JUST HAVING THEM FUCK WASN'T ENOUGH - THERE HAD TO BE A SPIRITUAL CONNECTION. THE OLD MAN EXPLAINS THIS.
He neve complained about the sex scen buster, and not the story still heavily flawed.
The "common etiquette" line is either funnier or harsher given all the sexual misconduct allegations coming out this year.

fun fact, this and genocyber were the first two anime i was introduced to, thanks to my anime loving father who would rent stuff from the local video store in the 90's after admiring the art, but not the maturity rating, luckily i discovered much more tame anime like dbz, yu yu hakusho and ruroni kenshin after the fact otherwise i may not have watched more, cause this shit scarred me for life as a child

I think that's kind of the idea...yes, telling them would be faster, but then the result child would be just a forced messiah created by the union of these two, just because they had to...instead, they grow to like and love each other (in a pretty rushed way no doubt), showing that the kind of connection required between the two species is possible...

I remember hearing the opening theme of that show and thinking "nope, not gonna waste my time on that one". Seems like I made a good decision there.

This was really well animated despite how sick the content was- even for hentai.

Demon City Shinjuku. I just watched it and yeah, it's still insane, but now its in glorious HD! Thumbs up.

It makes Mayart seem like an asshole because it makes it look like Macie/ Annie Lennox being repeatedly molested and raped was part of his plan.
such a good anime, i had this on a pirated VHS tape with no dub, and i don't speak japanese, but stuff like this transcends language.

You know, my friends and I are just about to start a game of Hunter: The Vigil, a humans vs. the assorted critters of the night RPG, and out GM was asking us if we could suggest movies she could watch to get her in the right headspace. Well since the Blackguards in this movie are sorta monster hunters I said I'd loan her my copy before another friends literaly shouted "NO!" when asked why: "Spider Vagina" that's it, and I accepted that answer.

If you want it in a nutshell it's Lupin the Third if Lupin pulled a tenchi and was a worthless sack of nothing right until it was time for the action scene, Jigen, Goemon, and Fujiko were turned into rejects from a hentai, Zenagata was a immortal, and instead of being clever if improbable setups the grand thefts were things like "oh I just happened to have a multi angle 3D hologram projector up my ass to distract the guards and used a sonic screwdriver to open the safe."

Ive read the book. Trust me this is about 80% accurate to the story.
So I've been listening to this musician called Perturbator who does 80's synth music with a sort of horror/cyberpunk movie style. And in one of the songs they sampled the opening narration of Wicked City at the beginning. It was pretty funny to notice.

i like this one. it is cheesy, but it has this 80ies grindy noire feel to it...not half bad compared to some of the other shit that came from this period. and the soundtrack is fucking awesome, with the atonal piano and so
I love that you use the Manga Entertainment KMFDM intros. I loved them when I was a kid and they introduced me to epic industrial music.

IIRC he liked the first 2 seasons. In general he liked the setup but felt the series went nowhere in the end.

Here's a question I have about the ending of this film.
In the pregnancy announcement, what if it turned out that he was not the father?! You know she was successfully gang raped in an earlier scene in the film by multiple guys of her own species. What if those guys destroyed the little guy's plans in helping making a hybrid and ruined everything?!

I heard that this anime is a cult classic. It had amazing animation, especially for the time, the action was awesome, and it captured the horror element perfectly. But, the ending ruined it for me because it felt rushed, messy, and I hated the fact that they threw in a love story.
I wonder how much anime Perturbator watches.

14:38. That's Arachne from MegaTen. I'm kinda pissed, since it seems the design was taken from Wicked City of all places. On the other hand, it IS a story about demons, so I'll grudgingly say it could be worse.
Nothing really wrong with heavy gore, at least it's caused by things that look like they'd leave a bloody mess. Not like most horror films where "oh, that slasher with a butcher knife somehow left 300 gallons of blood all over the place from only killing two people"
Still, it was strange how so many anime in the 90s were just so edgy, as though they were feeling inadequate from the mildly violent stuff in the 80s.
