This was the closing of a five hour live broadcast on Jan 26th 1988 commemorating the 200th aniversary of white/European settlement in this continent. The anthem itself is at the final part of the video. This clip was used by the ABC as their station sign-off for a number of years, well into the mid 1990s. It was quite spectacular, but of course it would look a lot better these days in High Definition and far more sensitive video cameras. Thanks for watching
Great. I heard the national anthem of Australia 2006 during the FIFA- worldcup in Germany. It was sung by a lot of Australian fans in the underground in Berlin. And we all (Germans) were standing hearing this great anthem. Greetings from Berlin, Germany.
Peer Gynt I remember that during the match between Australian Vs Japan where some of the Australian supporters were in tears of pride & joy! Such pride!
Aside from my own country's anthem (Oh Canada), this is my favourite video of a national anthem. So beautiful, so powerful, and you can sense the pride felt by those performing it! Happy Australia Day to the folks Down Under!
it was actually taken from the closing of Australia Live which was a 4-hour national broadcast on the evening of 1 January 1988, the launch day of Australia's bicentennial year celebration.
Well you can't beat a classic. Many have tried, but nobody sings our national song with such inspiration and dignity as Julie Anthony. 12 years after this video she again nailed it at the Sydney Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. A great performer. It's such a shame that the video has deteriorated over time, because the original TV footage was indeed EPIC. It culminated a day where 11 tall ships that had completely re-enacted the original voyage of Australia's First Fleet arrived in Sydney Harbour (Not completely accurate because originally they landed at Botany Bay). The telecasts included various displays and commemorations from around the continent. Sydney Harbour was treated to a mass fly-past of every operationally available plane in the Royal Australian Air Force (Something that we don't often do). The day also included crosses to "Invasion Day" marches (and that's okay too because we are a democracy and everybody deserves to be heard). After various interviews with politicians, business leaders and community representatives intermingled with various crosses around this wide brown continent, the telecast finally concluded around midnight with this wonderful celebration of our song, sung with our voice. Bravo Julie Anthony.
Awesome! Your national anthem is one of my favorite national anthems of the world, along with "God Save the Queen" (also your royal anthem), "O Canada" and "The Star-Spangled Banner". Greetins from the United States of America and its coffee capitol of Seattle, WA.
@@peterkehoe1984 mate you told me to leave this country on this same vid, on my main comment a year ago. Also asking someone to leave because they think the song is a bit shit is a bit much don't you think. The song being a bit shit also represents Australia pretty well, after all it's all just a little bit shit here.
@@croweater6814 Like I said last year if you don't like it living in this country then feel free to leave. No one is forcing you to be here. In other words if you don't like it here then leave, borders are open now nothing is stopping you from leaving. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Only way you could teach it to the Boomers is by airing it at ABC close. It's a shit anthem, and sounds absolutely underwhelming when compared to the UK, US, French or even New Zealand Anthems.

As an Australian I can safely say both Oh Canada and Advance Australia fair are on par with each other. Both are shit anthems.

Please note that flames erupting from your singer are NOT normal. Contact your local dealership if this occurs.
What Julie anthony was to the Rendition of this Anthem is what Whitney Houston meant to The Star Spangled Banner
Now THAT'S a fucking anthem right there
The greatest in the world.
