If you're gonna continue with this doll custom thing May I strongly suggest taking a look at Dollightful, Lomi's Playground, Moonlight Jewel, Poppen Atelier and Mozekyto videos. They are among the best customizers out there.... Oh PS These dolls are often missing body parts cause other modders rip them off to swap with other doll projects ....

Just fyi- hair dye won't work, but you can use sharpies or copics to dye synthetic hair.... Just paint it on, let it dry and rinse off the excess. You can alter their skin color by neutralizing it with contrasting colored chalk pastels... Check out any of the monster high doll repaints on Poppen Artilier's channel for a great example. Also you need the spray clear stuff to get watercolor pencils and chalk pastels to actually stick.... Everyone uses a brand called "Mr super clear".
Just a tip: If you're starting out with doll customization, I recommend you purchase used doll lots on something like eBay! It won't cost you an arm and a leg, and you won't have to worry about messing up a brand new expensive doll you just paid for!

Here in Canada it costs a fortune to buy used dolls on eBay. I have searched for monster high and shoppies dolls because my nieces wanted to try customizing dolls. After the exchange rate and shipping it is cheaper to buy a new doll in store. On eBay shipping from the US to Canada is (in my experience of buying on eBay for the last 10 years) an average of $20 CAD, no matter how small the item. I have contacted sellers asking if it's possible to get it any cheaper and always get a negative on that. Apparently it is cheaper to ship from Canada to the US than it is to ship from the US to Canada 🙁

Edit: Usually/Sometimes, Doll customizers use monster high dolls or ever after high dolls (thanks guys!) on clearance. We don't use brand new to save up money. (This is because of the expensive sealant) and because we want to fix up old dolls not new.
Just watching videos is addicting itself. I watch Poppen Atelier, Dollightful,and Kyros Workshop (I'm subbed to them)and others (that I'm not subscribed to)
I just wanted ANY Monster High doll that didn't have blue or green skin. 😂
Alot of doll customizers use new dolls, but thats like if its a last resort, but you can find dolls that are unused or unwanted at thrift stores like good will, or you can order bulk throw away dolls online!
Also, we use ever after high dolls if we can get ahold of them. But any doll as long as it isn't too small is a good candidate.

Monster High has basically been cancelled. It's so sad :(. The best bet is going to a second hand store. I suggest Once Upon a Child. They buy their toys from people so their most often the best quality.

Oh man it’s sad the shells are so empty of monster high dolls :( I heard it’s the same in the us, they haven’t released anything new for a long time. It sounds like you put a lot of effort and research into this already. I think that’s great! you always seem to tackle projects really throughly, I really admire that! I’m looking forward to seeing the finished doll :)

Yeah the shops in my area have like NO MH dolls and barely any EAH dolls.. Its really frustrating..
Monster high dolls are discontinued. You can find them on Ebay and Amazon but that's it.

Yeah. Monster high is technically dicontinued. Mattel stopped making dolls so you really have to look out at thrift stores and ebay for.

Morgan Peters they rebooted the dolls because parents complained about them being too scary and now they aren’t selling well. I don’t think they’ve been discontinued yet but it’s inevitable.

Can I suggest you watch Dollightful's first custom doll videos as well as her how to make doll armor video and Mozekyto's videos to get some inspiration for the wig/to get a feel for what to do. They customize dolls here on TH-cam, and Dollightful's done all the Eeveelutions. I know you did a Pikalution family.

They no longer make monster high dolls that’s why they were hard to find
Can I suggest that you should get a sealant? If you’re using color pencils or pastels a sealant will keep your work in place! And you’ll be able to layer colors too.
Jessica Wittke normal color pencils will not work on dolls or with msc but idk what she may use. Theres a reason why doll artists use watercolor pencils but i hope shes using paint if not

One suggestion I can give you is to make a doll wig, you can also glue yarn wefts but it'd take a lot of patience, hope this helps

Aww I started watching the video and it's so sad when you try to look for the monster high dolls. There's so few of them now because they are on the way out. So those would be the last dolls that would be sold.
Are they getting discontinued? Or is ir because they're re-styling them and they're waiting for the old ones to sold out?
I guess just the line is done. They did make a few changes to the dolls but they slowly started to sell less new models. It would just mean they will get rid of the line or maybe make a return in the future. Same goes with Ever After High.
FankaKM that's really sad :( I feel like both dolls are very recent dolls, and it's actually sad seeing that not many line dolls survive. Only barbie.
I really liked liv dolls, had a few before they disappeared to who knows where and they aren't sold anymore either

I do doll repaints, for their accessories, the best section to look for beads/stars etc is the nail art section of stores. Luckily in the UK we have the 99p store that has everything I need in that regard!
